“The more you know about these teams, the less sense this result makes.”

Bill Connelly says all you need to say about the Georgia-Florida result in his advanced box score analysis here.  And his last sentence wouldn’t come as a surprise to me, either.

It’s sure gonna suck when it happens, though.

  1. Well doesn’t this just neatly sum up the Georgia football program since 2006. The Georgia Bulldogs…the sum of the unexplainable and the immeasurable. Go Dawgs.

At least the writers and pundits have this figured out. Thought they would slop it up with pome d’ rue, but the surprise was that they figured out that they don’t have it figured out. Whoop tee do.

Not so much worried about the writers and pundits figuring it out, but it would be a really, really good thing if the UGA coaching staff, a) figured it out; b) fixed it; and c) made sure it doesn’t happen again. Don’t they get paid enough to manage that?

Man, that would be an historic change I could believe in.

Simply an emotionally and mentally spent team after a 3-4 week fiasco with our best player, the NCAA and BMH………enough said. Let’s kick KY’s butts. I live in KY and the people are thinking Georgia is ripe to be beaten again.

It was an upset. They happen all the time. We, myself included, need to put this behind us and move forward.

They don’t happen in that manner. Good teams don’t get hammered often by bad teams. They can lose a trap game, yes, and usually close, but this exposed much, much more.

This was kind of a trap game. Florida had nothing to lose and was rallying around Mushchump, UGA was sailing to the SEC East and the SEC Championship or so we thought. Someone said before that we all thought this would happen at Mizzou or Arky but suspended belief when it didn’t.

The team we saw against SC, TN, and in the second half at ARK showed up in Jacksonville and got whipped. No surprise to me.

Gee 2013 Standford was # 4 in the nation and picked to beat USC by 41 points?
Hmmmmmm. I thought they were pretty good team?
        Guess not.

And now people are making stuff up to justify the Florida game. Stanford was a 3.5 to 4 point favorite, and they lost 20-17 on a last second field goal. USC was also not a bad football team. They went 10-4. Florida may still go 5-6 even with the upset of Georgia.

College football is probably the single worst sport to attempt to forecast using statistical methods. You have a ridiculously small sample size due to short seasons (in which a quarter of the games are non-competitive) and due to the fact that the best players play for three years. You are dealing with teenagers who can only practice 20 hours a week and who are not getting paid to play. Any team can win on any given Saturday.

Losing to KY would really be letting Fladuh beat UGA twice.
