First time this season we’ve had a four-way tie at the top.
Rank Team Votes 1 Florida State 54 1 Mississippi State 54 1 Alabama 54 1 Oregon 54 5 Baylor 52 5 TCU 52 7 Arizona State 41 8 Ohio State 29 9 Mississippi 17 10 Auburn 11 11 Marshall 6 12 Georgia 3 13 Duke 2 14 UCLA 1 14 Wisconsin 1 14 Michigan State 1
And to think a couple of you guys were giving me crap for “considering” Georgia.
I bet the selection committee will think more highly of Ohio State this week than we do. But I think it’s kind of neat the way the vote on two Big 12 teams came out.
Thoughts?
Looks like Spurrier recruited a friend to vote for Duke. Maybe Cutcliffe’s voting…

I agree on Ohio State. I think that they and FSU will clearly be the biggest beneficiaries of the 4 team playoff.
They could have more than a 50% chance of getting in there every year–and every year you get in is another big selling point to recruits, making it more likely that they’ll return. And so on, and so on. Playing in the SEC is a big deal to recruits, but it won’t be as big of a deal as reminding them that your team has been in the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years.

I understand picking a two loss team, but how can anyone pick us when the two losses we have are such bad losses. If us why not duke, or ecu, or even gtu.

That looks like a very good ranking of teams being about where they should, imo. I don’t think Miss State, FSU, or Alabama look all that daunting but it seems the right place to rank them. I don’t see a team that looks dominant, or unbeatable this year. Of the top group, I would rather UGA play all others before Oregon and TCU due to our defensive weaknesses.

As I said in my comments on the voting, it gets very hard after the top six. In no way do I believe in Ohio State, which also throws Michigan State out of the mix. Same for Arizona State. Mississippi is on the decline, and Auburn is in the mix talent-wise but they’re inconsistent. Duke is just a funny joke at this point.
I think Marshall would probably get smoked at this point by any of those teams, but given their record I had to go ahead and bite my tongue and give them the nod at 8. I felt dirty doing that.

Auburn should not be in the conversation. They lost to Ole Miss. You know it, I know it, they know it. I hope the committee doesn’t give them credit for winning by breaking a leg.
