Quakin’ in me boots

So, Georgia Tech backed into the ACC Coastal title – quick, name all the members of the Coastal Division… that’s what I thought – as Duke imploded against a shitty North Carolina team last night.  And now it’s time for us to be vewy, vewy afwaid of a team that’s lost twelve of thirteen to Mark Richt.

Stingtalk is just getting warmed up.  (You gotta love the paucity of recent highlight clips on that last thread.) So is Mark Bradley.

Hate Week is always more enjoyable when they convince themselves their team has a real chance.  Bless their hearts.

We need to beat their asses into the ground. I tried to leave just a little gas in the tank last week so that I could still bring my A-Game to the Tech game.

Anyone who thinks they are not a rival anymore, just show up next weekend. The intensity will be there, at least in my section. Don’t you worry.

I must be in the minority because this game has me worried. Of course, they all worry me. If the defense from Jacksonville shows up the game will be close.

You certainly are in the minority, but I don’t understand why. Tech should win about 25% of their games against us, and this is one of their stronger teams. Richt has been as lucky against Georgia Tech (and Tennessee, for that matter) as he has unlucky against Florida (and recently, South Carolina).

Paul Johnson’s offense is really very good given their talent, and coupled with our inconsistent defense UGA has a very real shot at losing this game. I’m thinking the money line comes in at 70% chance of UGA victory. In other words, much lower than the florida game we got crushed in.

This is one of their stronger teams, and their best win is over a 7-3 Clemson team that we slapped around. Their two losses are to perennial powers Duke and UNC. The fact that they will be our 3rd opponent in a row running the option does not bode well for the nerds.

I hadn’t thought of that last point, which is heartening, but I would point out that they slapped around Clemson even worse than we did (held them to 190 yards and 6 points).

Clemson was heading for a 10 point lead when Watson got hurt. Stoudt then promptly throws a pick six, which he duplicated later in the game. Don’t let delusional Tech fans get in your head; a healthy Watson most likely leads to Tigers to a win in that game.

“But these Jackets won enough close games early (Georgia Southern, Virginia Tech) to put them in position to roll when the schedule softened.”

For some reason that just gave me a good laugh. The schedule actually softens from there? Wow.

Will we get another fish fry comment from Johnson this year?

I’m in grad school at Tech currently.. kid in class (who went to Tech undergrad) last night asks if I am worried about the game.. I told him no. He told me I should be.. to which I responded.. Could UGA lose? Sure.. it has to happen eventually. Tech beats UGA once a decade and that could happen next Saturday. But am I worried it might? No. UGA out athletes Tech by a significant margin at every position except QB and that often wins games.

I wasn’t saying it to be a dick.. Tech could beat UGA.. App State beat Michigan and GA Southern beat Florida.. shit happens. But in no way am I worried about it. (.. and I worried about Florida for the record).

I’ve never attended Tech (shudder), but before I matriculated at UGA, I did sit in the student section once at Bobby Dodd, during which time 1) some students turned their backs to the game so that they could talk to other students about their calculus homework, 2) one student asked me if Tech currently had the ball, and 3) another student asked me if Tech was winning. They can find the area under a curve, but they can’t read a scoreboard. It renewed all my faith in stereotypes.

Yea, that’s more my experience, and I can’t really get on the nerd bandwagon because I’d have a classic pot/kettle situation on my hands.

Those students aren’t StingTalk though, are they? My assessment of StingTalk is that it’s mostly cynical, misanthropic, misogynistic, overcompensating, asocial cretins. The kind that have never employed a UGA grad themselves, but take immense pleasure at having once heard of a tech grad (who, unlike them, was actually successful) that did. Nerds to be sure, but that aspect seems to be mostly incidental.

Stingtalk is filled with vicious little assholes who are technically football fans, but know very little about football. They know about whatever false narrative the other Stingtalk dickheads discuss, i.e. Dooley was only a good coach because of Herschel, their academics are far superior, not all of their male students are virgins, etc., but that’s it. They know how to make nasty photoshops, but that’s the sum total of their skill sets.

If the players play like they did last week, then it really should not even be an issue.

Also I wonder how much a Mizzou win or loss this weekend will affect the players state of mind going into next week.

If Mizzou wins, Tech comes to Sanford to face a team with a hardon. Same if Mizzou loses.

If Mizzou wins this week, they’ll play ARK on Friday of next week, meaning that we’ll know our fate before we ever kick off against Tech. I’m not sure what to make of that, but it will be interesting.

I find it amusing that the nerds relate everything back to UGA football. Is it just me, or do they have more posts about the dawgs year round than their own team? And their overuse of the term “butthurt” makes them sound like the whiny little bitches they are. GATA

There’s a reason why we’ve been so successful against Tech. Our coaches know how to defend against a High School offense and the Bee’s DC have been so consistently horrible that Bobo doesn’t require hitting all cylinders.

This “I’m not worried” talk sounds eerily similar to what I heard before our defense layed an egg against FL. We seem to never play well as the favorite. Hope Coach Richt finds a better way to fire up the dogs for Tech than he did for FL.

I’d imagine we’ll come ready to play. In some ways, them being 9-2 is better for our psyche. Mizzou plays on Friday next week, so the hay will be in the barn as far as the east. I don’t think it matters. If mizzou loses, we’re playing for a shot at the playoffs (yes, that’s real). If mizzou wins out, we’re playing for a shot at one of the big bowls, maybe even the Orange.

    • Macallanlover

It is much better for us in many ways: 1) them being 9-2 and beating Clemson makes them appear more legit, 2) better ranking for them gives us a better chance to move up in the polls and would make us 4-0 against Top 25 teams, 3) and going against a team that will play against FSU, a Top 5 team, the next week gives us a chance to beat them more soundly for comparison purposes.

The GT offense this year resembles Auburn’s more than Navy or Ga Southern because of their ability to pass more often and our success on defense against Auburn should have firmly convinced our defensive front about the need to play disciplined football.

We will still be in the SEC title hunt when we play regardless of a Mizzou win at TN this weekend, Arkansas has an excellent chance to beat Mizzou and we will not know that result until after the game. Players will be motivated and we should win. Fish Fry should consider resting his players against UGA because the game against FSU is the only one that gets them into a decent bowl. Their fan base’s lack of support guarantees them a minor bowl unless the Committee assigns them to someone….that is the game they must win, and the one they have the best chance of winning. Beating FSU on a neutral field with their offense is more likely than beating UGA in Athens, we have proven for almost a decade that we can stop Johnson’s offense well enough to win. Their defense will not be capable of stopping our offense, no chance. Always possible we could lose, but UGA will probably be a double digit favorite in this game and we have more than enough motivation and talent to beat them soundly.

Agree with everything being said, but I believe that Tech is now a lock for the Orange Bowl regardless of their outcome in the ACC Championship game because worst case scenario they’re the runner up in the conference.

Also, as someone already noted, the Mizzou-Ark game is on Friday, so UGA will know it’s fate long before kickoff against GT. Either way, I expect them to be motivated to beat their instate rival.

Thanks, completely forgot about the Friday Arky game, my bad. I did not know about the Orange Bowl lock-in though, what a bitter pill for the Bowl and Miami area to swallow. Since it will now be a waste for that bowl anyway, maybe that is where Marshall will be sent. That way even those at home can decide not to “attend” by watching some reruns. I agree about protecting the runner-up or conference champions from falling to insignificant bowls with a loss but didn’t imagine a team like Tech would get that far again. How bad is the ACC? Funny thing is, if Tech were to pull the upset again FSU (more possible than against UGA) they have no choice and cannot get a home state school that will be higher ranked.

Ironically, other than bragging rights, Tech would be better served to lose the ACC Championship game because if they upset FSU, then FSU will likely go to the Orange Bowl and Tech is relegated to some second tier bowl game. I believe that a loss to FSU sends GT to the Orange Bowl, but not 100% certain. I agree with you that a 4 loss Tech vs Marshall match up is much better than if UGA gets stuck playing Marshall in the Peach Bowl.

What are the odds of Tech beating Georgia? 10%, maybe less? What are the odds of Tech beating FSU? 25%, maybe, tops? What are the odds of Tech winning both games? About the same as the Earth being hit by an asteroid at halftime of the Tech-Georgia game.

If Tech beats FSU, they win the ACC and go the Orange Bowl as ACC champs. The Orange also has a contract to take the highest ranked non-champion from the SEC or Big 10, or Notre Dame. So, sadly, they can’t play an opponent on their level.

Victories in the years they have hope are the sweetest

That said, we will lose to them again. It’s inevitable. Part of me wanted it to be last year since the year was lost anyway – flush it out of out system and then reel off another 8-9 in a row. But i wasn’t complaining when we won

We have the better team but could easily lose this game (see Florida). I’ll be annoyed if we lose but I’d rather lose now than when we are legitimate NC contenders.

Sometimes, a small innocuous posting presents a view of the author that shines his image or dulls it by it’s lack of sensitivity.

Little things give the measure of character and depth of an individual. Words that are hurtful such as “…paucity of recent highlight clips…” ; condescending remarks like “Bless their hearts.” reveal more about the poster than you expected when looking into the darker places of his heart.

Yep – except in this instance it’s all good! Kick their little snotty, trolling, NATS asses, Senator! Good Old-Fashioned Hate is not dead, rather, it takes the form of blog trouncing to it’s zenith. Screw’em! Then Sic’em!

There are two big keys to the game….well, three.
    1 Can GT’s defense keep UGA’s offense below 50?
2 Has UGA’s defense really solidified. Can they hold GT below 30?
3 Can GT contain UGA’s return game on punts and KOs?

Yes,- Oh, HELL yes,- and no.

I warned Dawg fans that UF would be ready for the Dawgs and I was chastised by a few.

-PAUL JOHNSON-“It’s not as much of what he says,” Smith said, “It’s his presence and his confidence. There’s an air about him that you feed on as a player and even as an assistant coach that you believe you’re going to win. He just has that unique ability to lead people. And whatever it is, whenever you walk on that field, you honestly believe you have the upper hand.”

That’s for the team, the coaches, and, especially, the Bulldog Nation since it’s a noon kick. 6:09 isn’t enough. Everyone forgets we outscored them 41-14 over the last 2+ quarters last year.
