“But given expectations, Tech has had the better season.”

Shorter Jeff Schultz:  The ACC turned out to be a weaker conference than we thought in the preseason, so let’s make some lemonade out of those lemons!

Interesting note at the bottom about being upset about the Florida game. Personally, the SC game is the one that gets me. We were outplayed, out coached, out manned, beat, whipped, dog cussed, etc. against UF. But we outplayed SC and should have won that game. Those kind of games are harder to stomach, IMO.

You find it more difficult to stomach losing a close game on the road to an inferior opponent than a complete meltdown against an inferior opponent? I do not understand that.

The “holding” call on Gurley’s 58-yd TD makes it quite understandable. We won that game in every way except the score.

To you maybe. I can accept a team making a few too many mistakes to win much more easily than a team just not showing up. I’m still angry about the Florida game. I was over South Carolina two days later.

Florida physically whipped UGA on the line of scrimmage. None of our DL required a double team. We outnumbered them in the box and they still whipped us. When UGA gets physically whipped, they deserve to lose. However, we did not deserve to lose SC. We outplayed them and had a shot at the end. I tip my hat to UF for outplaying us. SC, that one still hurts.

And you think it’s okay that Florida, who’s not very good, whipped the defensive line all day long when it’s held up better against every other team on the schedule, including a couple with much better lines than Florida’s?

Florida is a very talented team. They will have plenty off that team get drafted. They are far more talented than SC. Does the loss hurt? Sure. But they outplayed us and deserved the win. I tip my hat to them. UGA should have beaten SC.

Florida’s offense is not “very talented”. The only player who played against Georgia who will be drafted in the first 3 rounds was Demarcus Robinson, and since Georgia didn’t make them throw, he was a non-factor. They have two tackles who might get drafted in the late rounds, and maybe someone will take a flyer on Jones, Taylor or Dunbar.

Be as angry as you want about the Florida game, Bro. The South Carolina game is the one that is coming back to haunt us. We should have won that game and if we had won it Georgia would be right in there for the 4 team playoff. It’s very hard to go through an entire season of SEC football without losing a game no matter who you are. Bama has won 3 national titles during the Saban era and only once was Bama undefeated. Florida won 2 national titles under Irvin Meyers and both times had a loss. I’m not impressed with the teams that appear to be about to be picked for the playoff, except for Bama, which is a good team. FSU is all smoke and mirrors, Oregon can’t beat a quality SEC team and Mississippi State…well I can only hope that the Dawgs could play them–it would be a one-sided game for Georgia. A one-loss Georgia team that wins the SEC Championship Game is a lock for the playoff. A two loss Georgia team that wins it needs help to get in. So that BS holding call and the bad coaching decision to not run the ball when the Dawgs had first and goal from the 4 may very well keep the Dawgs from being national champs this year. Several of the other personalities, Smallus Dickus, Biggus Prickus and Doofus Rickus agree with me. If you don’t like it, talk to them.

Florida’s loss in 2006 was 27-17 to Auburn and involved all manner of weird scores by Auburn. In 2008 they lost 31-30 to Ole Miss. Alabama lost 9-6 to LSU in 2011 and 29-24 to A&M in 2012. Ole Miss was the worst team out of that group by far, and they went 9-4. They were much more in-line with the South Carolina loss (except that South Carolina is worse than all of those teams were), and they were not followed up by blowout losses to .500 teams.

  2. A win against 5-6 Va Tech was “big”? That’s some pro-level contortion.

Speaking of perception, if Georgia is 5-1 against teams in the top 30 what does that do for the “Richt can’t win big games” meme? Even with the two ugly losses?

  3. Va Tech lost to Wake Forest on Saturday. WAKE FOREST. So yeah, I’m unimpressed by Tech’s victory in that game. Clemson lost their QB, and his injured back up threw 2 pick sixes. Has Tech overachieved? Sure. Are they playoff caliber? You’re shitting me, right?

Georgia looked bad against Florida, unfocused defensively against UT, and got jobbed at South Carolina. Every other game, Georgia has dominated. It’s the damnedest thing; the UGA that beat Auburn looked like the best team in the country. The one that played UF looked like Kentucky.

If we don’t win the East in this weak of a year then our season is an ENORMOUS disappointment. Problem is that Richt and the Athletic Department don’t feel the same way.

      right.

CMR doesn’t REALLY want to win. He just puts on the facade that he wants to win so that he can run his stupid character building camp for at risk athletes.

      Brilliant point.

I don’t think he’ll beat himself up too much for not winning the East this year if you ask me. I’m sure he wants to win. He goes to work every day preparing the team to win and works his tail off at it. But I also think he takes losing in stride and says “let’s get em’ next time” a little too easily.

What in hell are you talking about? You don’t dwell on lost games unless you want a hang-Dawg team walking around wringing it’s collective hands. You get up and go after the next guy like nothing happened as fast as you possibly can.

He doesn’t take it badly enough, should act as smart/classy as Boom, and david, and skeptic, and dude child, etc. That is what we want, a coach that acts like he is 12 with an IQ od 20. The fans at the bottom are the worst in America, and that takes something with what I hear on sport talk radio, and what I hear is still calling FBomb. Perhaps they will leave when they tire of whining, or change their tude when they mature and have some perspective. UGA is simple horrible this year, they didn’t go unbeaten.

Cojones is exactly right. Fans have nothing to do all week but be hangdog. The coaches and players have preparation for the next week’s game to focus on beginning the day after the game. Coaches and players have to emotionally put Saturday’s game behind them on Sunday, win or lose.

13 and 1/2 if I recall on Florida *same as it is against FSU Saturday in Tally) and my site today had UGA as a 12 1/2 point favorite over Tech. As a reminder, I think Auburn was a 21 point favorite over A&M at home, and Bama was double digits over Arky.

Don’t see how that is relevant, was just pointing out that several 2 and 3 TD favorites have had their issues this year (and every other one in history), and that brief list just touches the surface. There are many here who feel the odds makers know what will happen and have some special gift…they are just “market driven” just like other markets. Only thing this proves is 2-3 TD faves aren’t a lock and it is purely judgmental to say they were “horrible” losses. All losses hurt, some games are weird, nothing changes. FSU is in the ACC too, conferences don’t matter because you aren’t playing a conference; individual teams and matchups do matter, a lot.

How is tech 7th in pass rating to our 12th position nationally while they are 115th in the country compared to our 8th position in pass completions, ranked 55th to our 10th place in pass Int %, ranked 13th to our 8th in pass Int and 66th to our 48th in pass tds? The pass rating of 161.97 compared to 161.05 allows for 4 teams to be ranked between. Absurd stat.

Running up the score on less than cupcakes can make a silk purse out of a NATS’s ear. Sheesh! The douchebags at GT must be filled with hot water and used to warm their beds on a cold cfb night. Or it could be the container for their used lemon juice turned into lemonade.

I have no use for Schultz. No…really. I mean it. None.

Having said that, I have to sort of agree with the spirit of his argument. It is my opinion that the average Tech fan is happier with where Tech is right now than the average UGA fan is with where UGA is right now. And I think that statement will only get more true if Mizzou wins on Friday.

Now, once again, I’m not comparing the teams or equating their conferences or situations. I think UGA is going to beat Tech rather handily on Saturday. It is merely my decidedly unverified opinion that the average Techie is happier than the average Dawg right this very second. And that sounds like a pretty good yardstick for measuring who is having the better season.

Well, considering we lost two games when some commenters here think even one loss is abject failure, yeah. Tech fans are certainly happier. These other miserable folks here haven’t been happy since 1980 and before that, 1946.

The good news is UGA can absolutely ruin the lives of Tech fans with a victory on Saturday. I said Techies are happier “right this very second”, but I expect that to change somewhere around 3:00 on Saturday.

Correctomundo! We are going to stomp them on Saturday. They might score 20 points on us (but I wouldn’t count on it), but we will score at least 45 on them. We will wear them out.

I’d set the minimum for UGA points at 42, given that we hit that number in 2012, 2010, and 2008. Given the results of this year’s offense, and Tech’s hilarious attempts at playing D, I’ll be a little disappointed if we don’t at least flirt with 50 or more.

Tech fans have nothing to fear. Losing to Georgia is almost a forgone conclusion and they can take it in stride. For Georgia fans, much is at risk but it is so wonderful when it works out in the usual manner.
