  1. He has a valid point. Has anybody asked Jimmy Johnson if he’d be interested?

Almost 2 weeks later and he’s STILL writing this shit? Dude is really pressing hard for troll hits.

No offense, Senator.. But you have got to stop linking to this trolls blog. I suggest a screen grab with the headline. That and your summation were really enough. There was no more substance to gain from reading the article itself. ๐Ÿ™‚

And here’s my warning to tech fans and Bradley: you better attend this Orange Bowl game because this may be the zenith of The Johnson’s success. Apparently nobody at tech could be bothered enough to care.

And what was Richt’s zenith? Beating Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl? ..what exactly has UGA done since? Losing to Alabama in the SEC Title game a few years ago? So, the chronic rebuild is still ongoing

I’m confused…isn’t Bradley essentially making the same point YOU so often espouse?

Not claiming to be the style maven, although I did read an AP stylebook once, it’s Paul TheJohnson.

I just be glad I don’t need money badly enough to be Mark TheBradley.

  8. To me, the basic point seems to be that UGA should be happy with what they have. No one feels that UGA can do better than what we have done for the past 14 years. The status quo is the ceiling. That is the party line. And I could not disagree more. I feel there are many coaches who would do better with our resources, in state talent, and SEC east schedule than CMR has done. I know this is only my opinion, and we are all indeed subjective on both sides, but not changing coaches simply means more of the same. And I think we can do better. No risk. No gain.

Gary Anderson was on the list (former Wisoconsin HC, now Oregon St). Jim McElwain was another possible. It wouldn’t surprise me if Florida doesn’t like him as his offense is not wide open enough, not that UGA can get him now. Yes they were both hired but UGA if they were in the market a few weeks ago, B-M had a shot.

Dan Mullen has done great things especially given MSU’s resources, Vandy and MSU were keeping for smallest budge at the time he was hired. Gary Patterson is another possible.

I firmly believe if UGA makes a move and offers competitive money, they can get plenty of coaches especially since UGA does not fire at the drop of a hat. I think Mark Dantonio would be a good fit solid D, pro style offense, and UGA could possibly pull that hire off.

Oh what a wonderful list! Merry Christmas!
We should fire the guy who is presently recruiting at a higher level than anyone else in college football with…who TF did you say?

I disagree Otto. The guys you listed are not an improvement over Mark Richt. In fact, if he just didn’t have those end of game mental lapses I think Mark Richt is one of the top 5 Head Coaches in all of college football. What I want is Mark Richt without brain cramps. Are there better coaches out there given that he does have those mental lapses? Sure. But B-M would have to bust open the bank vault to get ’em and that ain’t happening. Besides all this speculation isn’t helping because CMR isn’t going anywhere. So let’s try to focus on the positives. If the Dawgs win the bowl they have another 10 win season. That’s still pretty good.

Richt has had mental lapses for over decade. What indication do we have that this will change? I’m not interested in pretty good. I am not buying tickets for pretty good, I’m not even buying another hat for pretty good. I love UGA football and I want to Athens get what it deserve if it takes harder times to do that so be it. We have Donnan level performance but with a HC that can make donors feel warm and fuzzy.

It will take at least 2 down years to get him out. I am willing to make that sacrifice.

If he was one of the Top 5 head coaches he would be mentioned for more jobs, same for Bobo at OC.

After reading the recent post and comments on UGA’s recruiting classes I have come to a sad conclusion. I was in my early 20’s during the glory years of the early 80’s and have always thought of Georgia as an elite program that was just a couple of breaks away from a return to the top. After reading the post that stated UGA’s recruiting classes average 8-10 nationaly and 3-5 in the SEC and UGA ends up being ranked, at seasons end 8-10 in the nation and 3-5 in the SEC ( on average) I have come to the conclusion that UGA is a good to very good program, not an elite program. And CMR is a good to very good coach, not an elite coach. I guess that is just who we are and have to live with it. I don’t even know why I posted this, just feeling depressed I guess.

  10. Art Briles, Gary Patterson, Mark Dantonio, Dan Mullen, and likely some I am leaving out have all taken programs with less talent and fewer resources and less history than UGA to great seasons. I feel that any of these would win the SEC east at UGA, given the current level of play in the east, and probably go on to contend at a national level.

    • Less resources? Lol. Umm…. resources aren’t in short supply and in Texas and UT has been bad. Baylor and TCU have won a couple more games than they used to. Mullen helped MSU win a couple more games. None of these programs or coaches who have “done more with less” have done more than Richt. It’s cool if you want Richt gone but let’s not tell lies.

When they actually win at least a conference championship, I’ll consider them.

Didn’t Mark Dantonio’s team win the Big 10 Championship in 2013? And aren’t Briles’ and Patterson’s teams co-champions of the Big 12 this season? Don’t let facts get in the way……:)

I’m a big Richt fan. The loss to Florida was hard to stomach though and I also believe that UGA drops one or two games every year that we shouldn’t.

So, there it is and it’s hard to reconcile.

Got seriously ripped with Grizzard at the Longhorn Saloon on Peachtree st. many years ago. Anybody remember that place? Is it still there?

    Cheers

Yep I saw him there too. It was Longhorn steakhouse though (across from the old Harrison’s), long before it was a chain and still a good place to eat back then. Ole Lewis was ripped when I saw him then but what the hell, I was too.

  12. I keep seeing “Dantonio, Briles, Patterson and Mullen are better than Richt and have done more with less”. Prove it! Prove that they’ve done more than win a couple more games. Tell me how many conference titles there are between them. Hell…3 of those coaches are in conferences where the best programs are terrible. Sure, they’re all exciting but I’ve seen no evidence that any of them could do any better here. The fact that most of them are still at their current program tells me a lot. That most aren’t buying the flashy hype that some of you are.

Now, now, jaboo…You have to realize that these “fire Richt” gangbangers have ears that cannot process logic. They by-golly believe and know that anybody that can pick a football out of a bushel of peaches could take Georgia to a NC in a year or two. They think being a head coach only consists of standing on the sidelines on Saturday making perfect decisions. I’ve tried to accomodate their bullshit, but I’m tired of it.
      They’re dumb-asses.

  13. It is amazing how opinions give way to words like “lies” and “haters”. Many do believe that there are better coaches right now than CMR and that these would win championships at UGA. If you disagree and feel that CMR is the best man available as our football coach, then that is certainly your right. The point, nonetheless, should be discussed after the last 14 years.

    • That’s the problem with the UGA fan base. This place is just a microcosm. Dawg fans are practically like our government. There is no middle ground. You pick one side or another. I’m on the fence just as I am in politics. While I’m sure that the “Fire MR” crowd toss out their fair share of insults, on here some of the more vicious attacks come from the pro-MR crowd. If you show dissension you are stupid, a fan of another team, or you’re not a “real” fan. In fact you do not have the right to have your opinion respected if it doesn’t conform to the orthodoxy of the self proclaimed “real” fans.

      • This place may be many things, but a microcosm ain’t one of them. You really think most of Georgia’s fan base spends time on blogs and message boards? (I wish they did.)

No, we’re a hothouse for the motivated. That’s why you get the heated discussions here sometimes. That doesn’t make any of us bad. Just different.

Deal with the disagreements and move on, brother. It’s a lot easier that way.

Some people believe in alien abductions but that doesn’t make it worth discussing among people who are serious thinkers.

Unless, of course, you are a Sirious thinker. Then you would be in another constellation and therefore an alien. After all, it is the Dawg Star. Not very funny when you are pissed at numbnuts, huh?

Ug, the trolls are out and it isn’t beyond the Senator to engage in sockpuppetry. Don’t give another Sirius thought towards them.

The only way to get rid of Richt is money, as has already been posted…..the only language B-M understands. Wasn’t there a guy named Chris Peterson who made a fool out of Richt on national TV some years ago? He coaches at U of W where that broke state which is 8 billion in the red pays him 5 mil. If he wins at UDub, he may be one to consider. For the record: I spend the summer in WA State every year.
