Sunday morning buffet

Lotta green in today’s buffet…

  • Somebody thinks Dan Mullen has emerged as the lead guy in Michigan’s head coaching search.  “Both sources said to me that with Dan, it’s not about being the highest paid coach in his state / conference/ whatever (which is more important to some coaches than many people understand), what drives Dan is his desire to win a national championship.”  You know what we here at GTP say when somebody claims it’s not about the money.
  • Georgia may be in the hunt for one of the kids at UAB who’s now a free agent.
  • Speaking of UAB, the financial fall out from cancelling football may have already begun.
  • In less than two years, Auburn has increased its coaching staff by at least 46.5 percent.  Easy to do when you don’t have to pay the labor.
  • And Boom hits the recruiting trail, with a contractual limitation:  “A clause in Muschamp’s contract (he was fired following his fourth season as head coach) does not allow him to recruit players Florida has focused on unless Auburn has done the same.”
  • This is just awful.  It’s a different world out there, isn’t it?
  • Hugh Freeze didn’t just negotiate a big pay bump for himself with Ole Miss.  The salary pool for his assistants will increase by at least 25 percent.
  • Corch may be a dick, but he’s right about this one.  And that’s only gonna get worse as the playoffs expand.
  • Yes, Condi Rice brings a special kind of gravitas to the selection committee.

Arrrgh. It is so very discomfiting to find myself strongly in agreement with Corch.

Cmon. He’s not concerned about the players and their families. He’s trying to get a leg up in recruiting. This has always been an issue, and he’s smart enough to take advantage of it.

I could easily do NOLA for the 800 bucks, drive down, stay a night or two in the burbs…..I am surprised that folks are complaining, I Had no idea they gave them any money.

Some of the comments after that article are pretty good…

  3. I don’t get the appeal of Jim Mora. He would be a PR nightmare for a college that has a rabid fan base such as Michigan

Really, really sad about the death of the Auburn football player. A needless death, like so many others in our society, that’s hard to understand. And as much as I’ve disliked Cam Newton and his antics over the years, it was sobering to see him stretched out on a gurney with his destroyed vehicle in the background. For those of us who love the game of college football, with all of the passion it evokes and all of the memories it supplies, we’re reminded by these real-life tragedies and near tragedies that’s it still just a game.

Deepest sympathies to the family of Jakell Mitchell.

  5. What fresh hell is this?

Truly sad story. I’m sure it’s too soon to go there but I found myself wondering how two football related murders in Athens would be spun by the WWL, Herbstreit, et al.

    • That world has been that way for a long time.
Kinda reminds me of Bethel Homes recently rehabbed and now Bethel Midtown Village. ACC has poured a lot of cash into that project over the last several decades. Tall fence around it.

Experience the distinctive Tiger Lodge apartments at Auburn, the first name for luxury apartment living in Auburn, AL.Tiger Lodge at Auburn is located just six minutes from the Auburn campus.
The way this apartment complex is ran is completely bogus. They pay part of the water bill, but there’s only meter per building therefore in order for them to charge you what you go over the bill every month they determine how much you get charged by square foot of the apartment and how many people are there.
Their fees are outrageous and the crime that goes on here is ridiculous but unless you hear about it from a friend or another resident you won’t know what all actually goes on bc the office tries to keep it on the downlow. I don’t feel safe here at all. There are robberies, some of which have happened in the middle of the day, multiple cases of people firing off guns, and gang activity as well as people selling drugs. Take it from a resident as well as a former employee of the complex. You don’t want to live here. Find yourself a house or trailer and go in with people. If you don’t know anyone, find a different complex. I promise, it may look nice on tour but most of the apartments are in awful condition and never look near as good as the model. The price you pay isn’t worth it. You can find a house to rent and pay just as much if not less and have more square footage.

    Money counts.
Guess that supports what McGarity is saying about the reserve fund and the anticipation of a possible $5,000 per player funding in the near future.
Think many forget the cost to player’s families who want to see their sons [and daughters in other sports] play games and major games.
700 tickets to a bowl in Shreveport speaks to the cost to them. Football costs a lot in travel and time. Ask CMR and the AD the cost of those 4 straight road trips the Dawgs enctountered in midseason. Thanks SEC office you damn idiots…Missouri benefitted from that.
Or ask those high school teams outside of metro Atlanta who had to travel to the Dome to play for a championship. That is a big cost to the high schools and families.
Congrats to Rush Prost [Pruitts former coach at Hoover] who traveled to the Dome to win the 6A title in Georgia. And since Hoover went on to win the Bama title, guess that make them title holder in Georgia and Alabama. And I understand they had over 5,000 fans and families make that 4 hour one way trip. Think of the cost to those families.
But congrats to all the high school young men in football and their coaches. When you sit in the Dome on a Saturday you realize just how good football is in Georgia. That is why it is so heavily recruited. Just outstsanding players and coaches. Commitment and money counts.

I was really torn watching that game. On one hand I wanted a south Georgia team to win it. On the other hand, I watched a few episodes of Two-A-Days and was not impressed by Prost at all.

Mullen should get out while the getting is good. His MissSt Senior laden roster will be depleted going into 2015 season – going to be tough sledding next year. His agent will be wise to advise “take the Michigan offer” if it comes.

The CFP crowd and the NCAA don’t give a flip about players’ families’ expenses in attending a semi-final and then, a week later another trip to the final.

Know who else they don’t give a shit about? Joe Fan. It is a big deal for me to close my office at Christmas time and travel to one bowl game. If UGA was in the playoffs I could not afford to travel with the teams.

The loyal fans who travel with the team don’t count. Eyeballs watching 60 inch HD are the ones that count.

Gaskill it is not even the eyeballs watching that matter, it is the buying power attached to the eyeballs that matters. The folks who need to sell Toyotas and Viagra could not care less if the fans are served, only that THEY are served.

This truth won’t stop folks from talking about the fans, but all they will do is talk.

Boy, I sure hope the kid from UAB gets what he needs to get to Athens. He seems to be an exceptionally bright guy…hell, maybe Pruitt should hire him as a GA if he can’t get in school.

    • Go get Ganus. Call his Mama. CMR call his Mama, if you haven’t already. He’s a Georgia Boy and a fine LB’er.

        • As I have mentioned before, MY SON is a coach over there. He knows about recruits. He knows their agents too. Yes HS FB players have agents ! It is sad but true. It is a lot like the Bull Business. This kid wants to come to Georgia. He practically lived in Atlanta for 15 Years of his life. CMR call his Mama. Sunday after Church is always a good time.⛪️🎄

          • And what has YOUR SON told you about this kid, who, by the way, has been out of high school for three years?

Lots of kids want to come to Georgia. In and of itself, that doesn’t make them “fine” players.

Senator, you can’t use logic with this crazy old bat. Don’t you know? Her son knows everything about anything to do with football in Alabama. She couldn’t even comprehend the article. The staff has already recruited this kid. We want him and he wants to be here. No need for CMR to” Call his mama”. They are just waiting for the NCAA to approve him as a mid- year enrollee without back counting. But she just knows he is a fine lb because he played in her preciuos state of Alabama.

  10. Gotta be about the money because I don’t see Michigan being more advantageous than even MSU. Much like Notre Dame and, to a lesser extent, us, Michigan thinks all they have to do is recite their proud history and the wins will pour forth. Bammer is the worst but they also have adjusted with the times to make sure their period history doesn’t just stay history.
