I knew that game sucked.

If you want to look at the 2014 regular season as a giant bracket for the playoffs… then Georgia was knocked out by Georgia Tech.

Gah.

Right, and TCU was knocked out by Baylor in the round of 32….only to be #3 in the BCS rankings nearly 2 months later.

Interesting graphic, but it’s mostly nonsense.

It’s gonna be a long off season. My closet Tech fan neighbor has come out. He now has a Tech…”We run this State ” flag. Turns out he and Mr. Tennessee fan are golf buddies. My bride says they are trolling me. She is friends with both their wives. She thinks it’s funny.
    I am not amused.

Funny, but true. A&M choked and the Arky coach turned out to be a total imbecile in how he managed their QB. That Friday loss to Mizzou by Arky cost us the Tech game, imo, and a shot at Alabama. Never know what could happen if you get that shot but the SECCG would have been a competitive battle. Yes, it was our own fault for not controlling our own destiny but a few breaks along the way should get spread equally every once in a while.

I blame not kicking it deep, you seem to forget we lead with 18 measly seconds left

Actually blaming any one play in a game decided by that margin (no margin really) is way to narrow a perspective unless you just want to beat up any one thing, or one person. Kicking it as a pooch was the lesser of many reasons. We could have always covered it better, or tackled the QB on the next play just in that two play sequence; obviously there are dozens more to choose from, take any one at all but you don’t even know how we might have covered a deeper kick. A decent percentage of coaches would have made the same decision, and if it doesn’t help contribute to the resulting tie, no one would be talking about it. Many bigger issues on the field that day.

We actually covered kickoffs pretty well that game, I’ll concede that there were other problems that day which led to the outcome. But still kick it deep and it runs a couple more seconds off the clock if they return it to where they did after the pooch. I know……..If, if was a fifth we’d all be drunk

I think this came from the Committee…how else can you so easily explain tOSU (what Va Tech loss?) and the WVA win over Baylor being the deciding factor?

  6. That graphic has no credibility.

Vanderbilt was eliminated long before Georgia played against them.

  7. It’s funny that they had to give Tech a first-round bye because otherwise they really didn’t have enough quality wins to justify lasting as long as they did. (Which of course they didn’t, not really. Even with the Win over UGA, if they had beaten FSU that playoff spot would have gone to Baylor or TCU. Both might have actually gotten in; I think half the reason of putting in Ohio State was to avoid putting one Big12 co-champ in without the other.)

Also, it wasn’t Tech that eliminated us, and it wasn’t even Mizzou: it was Florida. After the end of October we were outside looking in, just as we were after the Tennessee game in ’07.

I agree with all of you saying that this chart is fun to look at but it’s a poor reflection of the actual course taken by the season.

  8. You’d be surprised at how many Tech people turned the tv off at 18 seconds but I don’t give them too much grief because a lot of Dawg fans were leaving Sanford just before that.

Maybe it’s the fact that I see and hear more from Dawg fans but a good portion of our fan base really disappoints me and has for a long long time.
