The only number we care about

Maybe so, but Mike Bobo hasn’t done too badly.  His new contract is for five years, with a base salary of $1.35 million.  (Those are the same numbers McElwain started with when he went to CSU.)  That’s a nice step up from the $575K neighborhood he was in last week.

Here’s the figure that matters in Athens, Georgia, though:  His buyout will be $5 million.

I guess that means we can expect Mark Richt to be on Georgia’s sidelines for at least another five years, right?

Listening to Bobo’s press conference he may be too bluntly honest to ever survive as Georgia’s head coach. He didn’t tap dance around any questions and there isn’t an ounce of politician in him. He’s a purebred football coach and they are damn lucky to get him.

His strengths are recruiting and scheming on offense. He’s a smart guy so he know the recruiting is most important. Jimmys & Joes > Xs & Os. I think he’ll be successful.

Heard another alumnus say today, maybe the wrong coach is going.
Back to back end of season of coordinators leaving. Something is going on the CMR staff and the AD.
Now know how what Bobo was worth to the AD in the recent past and near future. But in essence UF paid for the Bobo transfer / hire.
Do not think CMR will be in Athens beyond 5 more. And I do not think Bobo comes back either.
No doubt there are going to be some changes in CMR’s staff now. If he lasts 5 more will be determined who he hires. He has at least 5 mil seed money to hire on an OC and OL coach. Better spend it wisely.
Plus are signs indicated UT and UF are going to move past the current HC and AD.
It will be hard to get 10 wins now.

Yeah a big part of our problem is that we are not really fans we are all experts instead. We probably second guess everything about our program more than any school that wins most of its games. We seem to always expect the worst from Richt and McGarity and are disappointed if what they do actually works. Bama could hire Charley Weis to be DEFENSIVE coordinator and their fans would love it because it was Bama doing it. If Georgia hired Erk back from the dead we would say he is too old even though we were witnessing a miracle.

So, Bobo leaving for a HC job and Grantham leaving for $5 million guaranteed is a knock on Richt? Hokay.

      Good grammar.

I am puzzled how the B-M “complex” has handled and report the Bobo resignation. Poor job by the HC, SID, and AD.
Lot going on but that is why you hires that can report and handle the rumors and etc.

$1.35 mil/year. Certainly more than he was making as OC, but refresh my memory – how many OCs are there in the SEC making about that now?

I hope Bobo succeeds, but even if he doesn’t, it’s not like people are going to forget he knows a little bit about football. Losing wouldn’t be a career ender: see, Will Muschamp. And Ft. Collins is way nicer than Gainesville, and the job not nearly the pressure cooker, either.

Cam Cameron is making $1.315 million. And that’s it.

Yep, you gotta give it a shot. Good for him for going for it.

Bobo’s contract over the 5 years averages $1.5 Mil. That’s $7.5 Mil total. Guaranteed. Even if they fire him. If he stayed at Georgia it would take 15 years at his present salary to make that much. He just made his fortune with this job plus it’s a HC gig. Of course he took the job. That said, being cheap didn’t help things. McGarity and the others at B-M need to wise up. If the coaching staff starts looking like a jailbreak, and particularly if the recruiting class starts coming apart, they can say sayonara, particularly McCheap.

I’m a bit surprised Bobo didn’t get a higher amount – something like 1.5 mil. Still a boatload of money. And 2.4 mil for the assistants is nothing to sneeze at either. Best of luck to him. Time to put it behind us and move on to his replacement.

One last thing: Anyone want to bet there’s a little loophole in the 5 mil buyout if UGA were to come calling for a HC?

Bobo’s contract has a $5 Mil buyout clause if he leaves to take another college football job, Westy. I just read about it.

  10. Good for Bobo. A few years of seasoning at a far away place where if he fails nobody cares because CSU isn’t a football school and if he succeeds, he’s a genius – then, he returns to UGA as HC.
