“You’ve got a career ahead of you, but you’re being a total dumb ass right now.”

The question I have about Michael Dyer missing the Belk Bowl as a result of being declared academically ineligible isn’t over another bump in the road over his seemingly decade-long career – hell, he’s made a, um, career out of bumps in the road – but, rather, how does one go about being declared academically ineligible at Louisville, of all places?  That’s gotta take some effort.

I guess it’s too late for a second second chance with Malzahn.  Ah, well.

We’ll miss ‘ya, big guy.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed, huh?

  2. He must not have shown up at a single class this fall to be ineligible at such a fine, upstanding institution of higher learning as UL. Whenever ACC people poke fun at SEC academics, at least we can say we don’t have Louisville in our league.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the headline last night. Being academically ineligible at Louisville is like being too ugly for Al Qaeda.

  4. Find a player declared academically ineligible at auburn…ever. I’m sure it’s simply a result of their players universal dedication to the academic mission of the institution.

Alabama is a “2nd chance to infinity” state for all athletes, beginning in HS and continuing through all years of collegiate eligibility. And it doesn’t stop with academics.

Surprised Louisville, VT, Miami, and FSU ever do that to anyone.
If the AD had been in southwest Ga, Florida panhandle, and southern Alabama in past 24-35 hours he would know how important an indoor practice facility would be.
But people like him live in a controlled environment. Man does not undertand time and money. It is an investment in a football program and students.

Seriously? Academic smack? We’re obviously not the Harvard of the South (which technically is located in Danville, Ky.), but we’re not, well, Tennessee.

    • Um, top 10 best value in higher education by Kiplinger, designated as a “public Ivy,” freshman entrance standards are crazy high. Rhodes, Fulbright, and Truman scholars consistently. One of the best Honors programs in the nation.

Universities don’t get this type of recognition without being academically rigorous.

    • As long as we kick out of school (a more serious sanction than ineligibility) upperclassmen (Caleb King, Austin long, paul Oliver) for failing to meet academic guidelines I’ll bust on schools that could care less if joe cribbs can’t read. (he can’t despite 4 years at auburn). If we ever go back to the jan kemp days or become like auburn I’ll lose interest in the subject of this blog until it changes. I want the big trophy like anyone else but I want it the right way or not at all.

It’s all the NCAA’s fault. If Dyer only could have worked at a used car dealership for $350K year that would have solved all his problems.

Declaring an often-injured player ineligible for one meaningless bowl game is certainly a courageous move by Louisville. 😉

it feels like he should be in his early 30s by now. I will be surprised if he is not arrested and incarcerated in the next few years.
