“How can you not root for a guy like that?”

I’m not a fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, but I’d definitely sympathize if any of them told Matt Hayes to take this column and stick it straight up his ass.

Oh! I have misty eyes. What a moving story of redemption. Lane Kiffin for Pope!

    KAKA GRANDE DEL TORO!

Lane Kiffin may have been a jerk of the first magnitude in Knoxville, but he did not fire Phil Fulmer, or hire himself. There are Tennessee fans who realize this.

    • You forgot to mention the dumpster fire Junior set when he left Knoxville abruptly after one season. Or the shambles his one recruiting class was reduced to. Or… well, I could go on.

What I am saying is that while all you say, and more, is true about Kiffin’s time in Knoxville, his fuck ups were only a continuation of the original sin.

UT has been at its nadir for many years, similar to UGA football for most of the 90’s. Lane’s one brief year there certainly didn’t cause the problems they experienced before and after his arrival.

If Saban were their coach in ’09 instead of Kiffin, I’m certain that UT would be exactly in the same place today as well.

And it’s also not the reason Tennessee fans hate him. They hate him because he snuck out on them like he was leaving the scene of the crime.

Yep. At the time they loved his brash style, his trash talking, his recruiting of talented yet questionable athletes, and all the rest. Only after he left did they suddenly and conveniently hated his personality, and magically detested what they embraced with pride just a few hours prior.

Oh, don’t get me wrong; they had it coming. But I still understand their dislike of the guy. We’re known to hold on to some grudges ourselves.

There’s a saying that is among my favorites and is one we all should strive to live by, including UT fans: He who angers you, owns you. Let it go.

The fact that UT fans to this day would still be angry over Lane bolting for USC 5 freakin’ years ago shows just how pathetic their lives are, all the while essentially admitting that Lane totally owns them as a mere assistant at a rival school.

You can say a lot of bad things about him but, like the article mentioned, he sure did a bang-up job getting Crompton ready to play… especially against us

Nate Dawg is right. I read four paragraphs, couldn’t stomach his mea culpa and plea for another HC job. Somebody will hire him as their HC come 2016.

I don’t have any sympathy for the Big Urnge fanbase. They cheered on Kiffin’s asshattery to the bitter end.

  8. Kiffen should take Bobo’s place as head coach in waiting.
