Jim Delany’s wet dream

Both Mississippi teams go down in flames.  Auburn loses to a team coming off a 59-point shut-out loss with an interim head coach.  And Alabama gets embarrassed by a team starting its third-string quarterback.

Nice face plant, SEC West.  Finebaum’s audience ought to be placed on suicide watch today.

There’s only one way to fix this:  more head coaching raises!

You mean there’s other coaches that can’t get their teams ready for the “big game?” Only one solution… hire Urban Meyer. OK, those of you in the “Fire Richt” crowd, who’s ready for that? Let’s see those hands!

I couldn’t imagine that SOB on the Georgia sideline in Sanford. I wouldn’t want a home/home with tOSU due to permanent sulfur stench he would leave on the visitor sideline.

Geeze. Not this again. Teams lose, but Alabama losing by a touchdown to who might end up being the national champions isn’t even in the same league as some of our losses. The UGA team that got curb stomped by Florida would’ve lost 100-0 to the Ohio State team we saw last night.

Also, how does it make you feel that this is clearly the worst the SEC has been in nearly a decade and we couldn’t even win the weaker side of the division?

Kyle has the data at Facebook [can’t embed FB posts so I’m blocking and copying}:

“The SEC East is 3-0 in bowl games this season, while the SEC West is 2-5 in the postseason. Ranked SEC East teams are 2-0 in bowl games, while ranked SEC West teams are 0-5. The highest-ranked opponent beaten by any Southeastern Conference team in a bowl game this season is No. 21 Louisville, which lost to Georgia in the Belk Bowl. It may have been a minor bowl game, but it’s the most noteworthy victory an SEC squad will claim this postseason. The Bulldogs didn’t have the best season, but they ended their season better than any other team in the league.”

I wouldn’t bet the ranch on that. The tOSU team I saw dust Bama last night can certainly beat Oregon–a team with personnel not as good as Bama’s. I’m not predicting a Buckeye win but I certainly wouldn’t surprise me at all. Irvin already has 2 crystal footballs. What’s Helfrich ever done except autopilot a team Chip Kelly set up for him? Helfrich is a glorified assistant who just fell into a good thing. I am not an Irvin Meyers fan but the guy can really coach. Helfrich? I’m not so sure. I see Oregon following the same pattern as Stanford–a slow decent since Harbaugh left. By next season Stanford will be back to 5-7/4-8 seasons. In a few more years Oregon will be doing the same.

I can’t imagine you mean that last statement, won’t watch that game? It looks compelling to me. My dislike for ohio and a chance to see them get stomped by the Ducks’ offense would be enough to make me clear my schedule (if I had one). Add to that it being the last game of CFB for 8 months and interesting clash of different offensive styles and it becomes “must see TV”.

My only negative as I think about that game is the potential for another monochromatic uniform from Oregon. I would support a rule in CFB that white is the only acceptable color when jerseys and pants can match, no blue on blue, red on red, black on black, gray on gray, and absolutely no orange on orange uniforms allowed. Should be a 21 point penalty to the school that puts a fan through that. Duck cheerleaders are exempt from any fashion rules, they can wear anything they want, or nothing at all….I will watch.

The “fall” of the SEC was eminent. What I am going to despise is how the ESPN family of networks is going to hyperbolize this for the next 9 months. I can hear the experts now – “Oh, will the SEC even get a team in the playoff next year?…this bowl season for the SEC will make the playoff committee think twice come next year…Maybe the big 10 can get 2 teams into the playoff because the SEC is SO FAR down…Get ready sports fans because it’s coming.

In all honesty, does this bowl season really matter? probably not. I think that Ole Miss, MSU, and Bama got out played and out coached – It just all happened in a 48 hour period. This is why Mama said don’t wager your hard earned money.

There may indeed be, based on the bowl results and recent coaching hires, a power shift happening. At the least, we clearly saw this year that the best team(s) in the SEC were not a lock to beat the other nationally top ranked teams. Is the era of SEC dominance coming to a close? Not sure, but it certainly seems possible.

That game is on Kiffen. Way too cute. They showed a ln ability to get 5plus yards a carry and were only stopped when he would try to pass it 2 out of 3 plays in a series. With OSU backed up on those several consecutive series, Bama’s cuteness and inability to score cost them. If only Bama would have had Kiffen in the SECCG against us, 3 yrs ago we would have won by 2 scores.

  19. As bad as the Alabama defense was last night (and they were awful), they gave the offense chances to win the football game in the 4th quarter – 2 straight 3-and-outs combined with an OSU punt that would make Tiger Woods proud with the backspin on it. Then, Junior happened with a terrible play call combined with terrible execution by Blake Sims resulting in the interception. Thinking about it this morning, it was just like the USCe game at the end where the offensive coordinator overthinks the play call on 1st down and then the QB makes a big mistake. 2 minutes later, Tattoo U salts the game away on the long run. Even after that, the defense gave the offense one more shot, but Sims couldn’t even get the ball close to the end zone. Once again, Saban happened this time as they screwed around with clock management on the 1-minute drill.

It sounds like the Bammers need to run Saban off because he can’t manage the clock at the end of games or his offensive coordinator.

Bammers today will be saying, “FIRE EVERBODY! SABAN IS TOO NICE AND COMFORTABLE TO WIN IN TODAY’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL! WE’LL NEVER COMPETE FOR ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP! IT’S BEEN 2 YEARS!”

    • The bama receiver was wide open on that play, it was a terrible pass. It was not a bad play call and neither was Bobo’s. Bobo called the same play in the exact same situation early in the 4th qtr of the SC game and we scored a touchdown. Was that play also a terrible call? Can’t have it both ways.

      Like

      • So, IL Dawg

If you’re talking about the interception Sims threw, you’re correct. The TE was open. Sims threw the ball well short of the receiver; so the DB was able to intercept the pass. If Sims throws the ball into the end zone, it’s a TD.

        Like

        • The reason the ball was thrown short is he threw from his back foot because the defender on the edge was unblocked and didn’t take the bootleg. I would have given a defense on its heels a steady dose of Derrick Henry and TJ Yeldon at that point to run clock and get a score.

          Like

        • Mayor

Also, Bama got out-schemed on that INT. The DE faked rushing the passer then dropped back into coverage right into the throwing lane. Sims never saw the guy coming.

          Like

      • Gurkha, you have to think about down, distance and the game situation when you assess a play call. You can call the same play in two different situations, and one time it be the right call and the next it isn’t. In both cases, it was late in the game. The defense gave the offense a chance to steal a win on a short field after being outplayed, and both coordinators went away from their bread-and-butter – the running game – to a naked bootleg pass on 1st down. Neither defense was influenced by the play-action due to poor ball handling by the QB and defenders playing their assignments on defense. Both QBs tried to then force a play that ended up with disaster and, in both cases, 0 points.

It was a poor call exaggerated by poor execution by Alabama last night and by Georgia in Columbia in September.
