If South Carolina went 1-11, Spurrier would still be wise-assing it, as long as the one win was over Georgia.
I wonder what the quip will be when he hears about Georgia hiring “Young Schotty”.

Steve Spurrier: "Georgia probably has been most consistent team in East. Well, maybe they haven’t, heck we've beat them 4 out of 5 years."

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
CSS has to hang his hat on something, he knows he has done all he can at USCe.

I have come around on Spurrier…..shit like that makes look forward to his retirement and Carolin’s return to mediocrity…..at best.

He spends the entire offseason game planning for game #2. He said when he took the UF job, that beating F$U wasn’t important. UF needed to start beating us. He knows the Cocks really have no chance to win the East if they lose to us. Therefore, he spends most of his time getting his team ready for the Georgia game. Combine that with our tendency to have a couple of starters suspended and the number of players from Georgia on USCe’s roster, and you have an upset in the making.
We’re going to find out how good a coach SOS still is this fall when he has a QB with zero meaningful snaps entering the season.

Well don’t we both have qbs with 0 meaningfull snaps?

AHD, Ramsey played a lot in some wins including the 2nd half of the bowl game, which were meaningful snaps. Pharoh Cooper threw more passes (8) than the 2nd string QB (Connor Mitch – 2). Ramsey (24-39-333-3 TD-2 INT) has much more experience than any QB on the USCe roster (and he doesn’t have much), but he pretty much played enough in 2014 to have a game under his belt.

Hearing the audio, the comment comes across a lot more matter of fact like than it does when you read isolated

That man has never said anything that wasn’t “matter of fact”…that’s his delivery. Aggravating as it is at times, its what makes him great.

He has become a pathetic, bitter man since coming to SC. I once respected him, and liked him, but he should have quit before he slid to the level he is now. Allowing players to run all over him (Clowney) and afraid to discipline others (Garcia). I thought he had standards when he was at FU, turns out he just had enough depth to cover up that he has no standards at all. Wasted a lot of talent the last five years ago with players out of control. Should have hung ’em up when he left Washington, now his legacy will be how he was exposed as a desperate old man doing whatever it took for his ego. Reminds me of Joe Louis ending up working the casinos in Las Vegas, at least he was shilling for money to live on.

Apparently, his method works better than ours. We are 1-4 against him the last 5 seasons. If he’s wasted talent, what has Richt done?

I do not know this to be true, but I always felt like he would be easy to seduce. …by a woman that can do that well. 🎈

You would be wrong about that, he is one of the “least womanizing/flirting men” I have been around. He and Gerri met in college and seem to have never faltered. Nice family and, to my knowledge, never a hint of problems.
As to the comment about records, my appraisal of coaches, and teams’, performance is never as narrow as against one opponent, or game. Nor do I put all evaluations on any coach, never have seen one make a block or tackle. And anon, you don’t know me at all so your comment is ridiculous but a hint: I am quite happy and have nothing to be bitter about. Step your game up, if you make a statement about someone, it should have some basis in fact. You deserve no break, simply don’t read my comments if you need a break; I think I will survive without your feedback.

I think Spurrier enjoys a much better reputation as a coach than Richt. I don’t like him at all, but he is a great college football coach.

“reputation” implies what perception is. He knows, and those who know him know, the old “character is what you are when the lights go off” thing. That actual truth is still important to some, but I agree the general public would certainly agree with your statement. I had been a fan of his until the most recent years as well.

A little hyperbole there. Spurrier still has the legacy nationally as an all-time great coach.

This quip was actually in response to him being asked about Schottenheimer going to Georgia. The full quote goes into more detail about Georgia being an attractive place to coach, etc.

If we don’t want to hear his smartass remarks, then we should quit losing to South Carolina.
