Schottenheimer said the goal is sustain #UGA's level of success…."We don't have re-invent the wheel."

Schottenheimer wants to sustain UGA offense: "We're not gonna reinvent the wheel. Philosophicallly, coach and I we see things the same way."
— Seth Emerson (@SethEmerson) January 9, 2015
Richt on offense going forward: “The guts of it will be pretty similar.”

Not to say there weren’t a couple of touch and go moments…
Richt has already corrected Florida grad Schottenheimer that it's Powerade and not Gatorade at Georgia.
— Marc Weiszer (@marcweiszer) January 9, 2015
Florida grad Schottenheimer had to be corrected by Richt when he referred to the "Florida-Georgia game." Schotty: "That almost did me in."

“We have a long way to go to get to where we need to go,” Smart said. “That’s nothing to do with Oregon. That’s nothing to do with anybody we play. That’s to do with the Georgia Bulldogs...”-- Kirby Smart, AJ-C, 8/14/22
I also hope that means he’s seen the old wheel and likes it.

Also the wheel route, and how few college Ds defend it well.

Didn’t Marshall catch a wheel route pass for a touchdown in the 2013 bowl game? A thing of beauty we never went to again.

Yep, Moreno caught one from Stafford in the 2008 bowl game as well. The fake punt against Auburn was also a wheel route.

Yeah, this is good. I’m not sure it’s all that hard to maintain a successful scheme as long as the new coordinator is competent. Look at how places like Oregon, Boise State and Alabama go through OCs every few years, but never seem to miss a beat. As long as the personnel stay roughly the same in terms of talent and being well fit to the scheme, it’s tempting to stay all the OC has to do is not screw up.

Also good news, Schottenheimer notes that it’s easier to adopt Georgia’s terminology than to impose his own per @UGAAthletics

Seems right, only one guy to learn the words.

That takes the largest sigh of relief. Great. Continuation of Bobo’s Machine unabated was my prime concern. He can always place some of his own favorite plays into a game plan so as to put his own stamp on this coming year’s efforts.
Goody, but I’m still pissed about Bobo’s treatment for the last few years by a bunch of hypocrite administrators and fans who understand less about CFB than I do….and that’s a whole lot.

Sounds like Coach Bobo left enough crayons for everyone. 😉

He had that box of 128 with the built-in sharpener.

I remember in elementary school you were really cool if you had the 64 Crayola box with the sharpener, which pretty much broke the crayons the first time a 6-year-old tried to use it.

Good to hear, I was wondering about that. I mean, if I were Richt, not that you let it stand in the way of getting the right guy, but I would have made it a point that I would prefer to use the same terminology. Give the guy flexibility with the offense itself, but within the same terminology. Not only does that benefit the players, but also Richt as he’s listening to the playcalls during the game. Richt has enough on his plate, having to learn a new terminology system is an unnecessary burden.
And to Schotty’s credit, sounds like he’s on board with doing what’s best for everyone, not “my way or the highway”. That was one of the things that impressed me about Pruitt too, that he tried to keep a lot of the same terminology to reduce the learning curve of the D. Schotty seems self assured, but not arrogant about it.

With regard to using the same terminology, Rev, I suspect CMR did indicate his preference 😉

No more gatorade, “Fla-Ga game”, jean shorts, tank tops, and hair gel.
Well, looks like Greg and Landers will cut him some slack on the hair gel.

You must be kidding. They already are taking all McG has allotted in the B-M budget. Ain’t none left!
Might be able to get some tan-bed time from CMR, though

I don’t know why those comments made me think of this, but won’t Mark Richt be great as the kindly old man of UGA football if/when that happens? Take over Vince’s role but do it even better. Sort of like Bobby Bowden without the underlying villainy.
I see him in 20 years, sitting in a plush chair, regaling some fawning interviewer with his anecdote about playfully correcting Schottenheimer on the proper name of the Georgia-Florida rivalry on first day on the job…

I want him to write a book telling us all the behind-the-scenes stuff we’ve always wondered about. But he’s too nice a guy to disclose the stuff that would reflect poorly on others.

Those 2 guys won NC’s. A national championship would be a prerequisite for sliding into the job of “grand old man of UGA football”. I am not criticizing CMR, I think he can get it done. Just saying.

Richt has answered every worry I have about the hire. Now, that doesn’t mean it will play out as stated, but it sounds fantastic right now.
-Not changing the terminology
-Asked about how BS would teach kids basic fundamentals

Yep.
My big worry with an NFL guy, especially when people were talking about NFL QBs not “understanding” his O, was that we were in for an offensive version of Grantham: fancy play calls that don’t work because the kids don’t understand and the coach won’t dumb it down.
This at least shows more flexibility than Grantham offered.

Buck Belue and John Kincaid reported this afternoon that his salary is $1.5m. Has anyone else heard this? I am stunned if that is the case and I wonder what must be going through Mike Bobo’s mind if it is accurate. Knowing Buck and Kincaid, it could very well be bogus.

I think this will end up helping the program. CMR is an elite offensive coach and one of the best QB coaches around. Having someone new come in and offer a different perspective while running the same system can really improve things. I think that’s what happened when Bobo took over as OC, and I hope it happens again.

Noonan, I agree with your enthusiasm, but the Georgia Offense was already operating at about 99 percent of rated maximum horsepower. Look at how Bobo guided the offense through the hard times of multiple key injuries. If CDS can just maintain the status-quo it will be a stellar coaching job. This offense is awesome and if everyone stays healthy, he might actually be able to step things up beyond excellence.

I don’t think it’s a matter of copying Bobo but more about the fact that we’re keeping everyone but Bobo and Friend and its been a very good system for us. I could understand changing everything if we were replacing the entire staff. We’re making all the right moves, IMO.
