Friday morning buffet

It’s a chilly, rainy morning… you got something better to do?

  • Patrick Garbin looks at Georgia’s offensive line recruiting efforts.  As you can guess, he doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
  • There’s so much rivalry in this lawsuit story, it’s hilarious.
  • Bulldog Illustrated reports that mat drills are no more.
  • The next lawsuit frontier is breachedO’Bannon attorney sues NCAA and North Carolina over the academic scandal.
  • “We’ll get all the information from him and decide what to do…” Looks like Nick Saban’s got a bookend for Jonathan Taylor.
  • And Hugh Freeze has more forgivin’ to do, too.
  • ESPN asks a bunch of recruits at the Under Armour All-American Game how much facilities matter in their choice of school, and gets a consensus that it’s not much, because all the big schools have good ones.  Sounds like a good argument for keeping up, and not running ahead of the pack.
  • Butch Jones has issues with roster management.
  • On the bright side for Tennessee, with offensive coordinator Tim Bajakian leaving for Tampa Bay, the Vols will actually get paid something for a coach’s departure from Knoxville.

Garbin is right. But hope springs eternal, I am Disney on Rob Sale being able to improve our O-Line recruiting in the future. This is the first time in the Richt era that we have not had Callaway or one of his proteges as O Line Coach and none of them could evaluate or recruit O-linemen on a SEC championship level. When Greg Adkins recruits were gone, David Green almost got killed when dropping back to pass, it was painful to watch. The change was too late for this year, but I do expect a better signee results next year.

All the more reason why the Dawgs need to pursue the Madden kid who decommitted from Wisconsin for academic reasons recently. We need OL signees NOW and he’s a 4 star.

I believe he will be in Athens on Saturday for an official. Need to lock him and Pat Allen down.

The Madden kid could make a statement. I’m not big on statement moments changing a program but, UGA needs to sign more on the OL. I also think it is priority for CMR, he gets elite11 QBs, top RBs but not OL, Further not top OL but signing enough OL period. You don’t need a 5 star QB to win with a strong OL run 1st pro style clock killing offense and a solid D. Bama proved that and I am still amazed they are moving away. Mason was good enough to win a national title with a strong OL, and good RB play.

that bama domestic violence charge is bizarre, the only things that got touched were things, the cars…not people? hypothetically, if you live in alabama with your girlfriend, does this mean you could get charged with domestic violence for running your gal’s taylor swift cd through a paper shredder?

Welcome to the land of big time SEC football Hugh Freeze. You have elevated?? Ole Miss to the upper echelon of the SEC West, at least in the crime and lack of punishment department.

Haven’t been in the arena in a long time, but I believe this qualifies as a bad shooting night.

Butch Jones is looking slimier and slimier. Considering the number of recruits he adds each year, it looks like the Vols will partake in all kinds of roster management now and in the future.

I’ve always wondered at Tennessee’s “allure” (for lack of a better word) to atheletes. They really don’t have a lot of in-state talent to draw from, so they recruit all over. Sgt. Carter seems to be doing very well in his recruiting…to the point of having to turn away 4 star recievers that had been previously offered????
Is it because Knoxville is so quaint? Geographical location (further north..not really “Deep South”, which miight be a selling point to some kids who have pre-concieved misconceptions about Ga, Al, Ms,etc?
Nicer weather? (I’ll grant that one..esp. in the summer).
If anyone can explain it, please do. (This isn’t meant as a “slam” on TN..just and honest inquiry prompted by curiousity)

Agreed, in my opinion, Neyland is an amazing atmosphere very big stadium, and 100k singing Rockytop can make an impression on a kid who has never been on a stage that large. The city has nothing on Athens.

The lack of academic requirements is a big draw. I can’t remember but there were a lot of Vols playing in the 98 National Championship that had massive incompletes in their academic records. Apparently you could drop a class up until the final and just get an incomplete.

Get ahead of the curve in facilities development…it’s expensive to play from behind. Trend setting trumps following.
A big water slide on the practice field would be nice…with a hundred or so steps to run up for the reward of the cooling slide.

I know you’re joking, but the water slide is kind of an awesome idea

It would replace wind-sprints. Run up the stairs, slide down in cool water..maybe 5 or 10 times at the end of summer practice. Wouldn’t cost much. It would be a selling point to kids who know what’s it’s like to practice in 90 degree temps….plus could be used for a reward…team partys, etc. Yes, I was joking, but the more I think about it the better it seems!

    • Then what would our fans bitch about in the summer when Richt didn’t cancel a day of practice to head to the pool?

  8. The UNC lawsuit is interesting to me. Stuff like that is the #1 reason I can’t get onboard with the “a scholarship is enough compensation” folks. The reality is that many athletes in the revenue producing sports at big schools major in remaining eligible. For every Craig Krenzel, there are hundreds of Stephon Marburys. It’s a farce and more evidence that these guys are not real students.

What UNC did was inexcusable but this should be a matter for Accreditation organizations and the NCAA (I can’t beleive I just said that). I wonder how many of these Complainants actually complained while they were at UNC that they were beeing advised to take fake courses that required no work.

  10. The comments by UT fans on Bleacher Report are hilarious…or sad, telling. At least some are honest about the fact that a winning UT footbaw team is ALL they care about. It’s the rationalization that gets me.

O lineman. Started with Searels and continued with Friend…throw in Bobo. None are on staff now. They left when it would become apparent they had failed in recruiting again.
I shudder everytime I think of the time CMR mentioned it was not always necessary to sign stellar on lineman. He might want to ask Nick Chubb about that.
Damn can this program not get its recruiting priorities in line and understand roster management.

I hate to see the Mat Drill go by the wayside of new era training and conditioning. Mat Drills at 6am probably have no effect on agility, etc. It’s the premise of waking up early, shaking off the cobwebs, and showing up no matter how cold or messy it is outside. These new guys are getting paid a lot for their new ideas. No change equals no progress so I’ll trust ’em. GATA!
