So you’re saying there’s a chance.

Agent Muschamp has been approached about taking the DC job for the Falcons, but won’t pursue it because he has dreams, damn it.

“Will’s goal is to become a head coach at the college level again, specifically in the SEC,” the source said.

He, Kirby and Bobo could make for quite the scrum when Richt leaves Athens.

If he indeed gets another SEC gig one day, you think Boom knocks Florida to whatever school’s booster club he’s in front of, like he did Georgia?  Considering the severance check he walked away with, it would be kind of crass, but, what the hey, it’s the SEC, right?

No way Georgia hires Muschamp. I wonder if he even has the stones to apply. There’s a way to take a job where you’re facing your alma mater every year. Just look at any interview Spurrier’s ever done regarding Florida after taking over at South Carolina. Muschamp torched those bridges about as thoroughly as he could have. He’s shown zero interest in being associated with the University of Georgia pretty much from the day he walked off of campus.

Now, Kirby and Bobo might end up locking horns for the job, but I think Bobo easily has the inside track on it if he’s even moderately successful at Colorado State. Now… I can see Kirby coming to run his defense, though.

Don’t worry, he will never, under any circumstances be the UGA head coach.

He’ll probably get a shot. Elite defensive coach, very good recruiter. If he can figure out how to hire a top tier OC (and keep his hands off that side of the ball), he can be a very, very good coach. I’ll be happy when he does get it, if only to get him off the sideline of our every year west opponent.

Not that I’d want UGA to roll the dice on him.

When has a Muschamp defense given us problems, other than this year?

What defenses gave us problems at all this year?

Until the last drive in regulation in the 2nd half, Tech of all defenses. Bobo had a great final season but that was, relative to the competition they were against, the low point for the offense in 2014.

Come on…are you serious? In UGA’s 4 possessions of the 1st half..TD, Punt, Fumble on the 1, Fumble on the 1. In their 3 possesions of the 2nd half, Missed FG, FG, TD. In the possession in OT an INT inside the 5.

I’d argue that Bobo had nothing to do with the offensive output. Poor execution…fumbles, interception, and missed fg. Maybe the drive where you have the fake and then don’t punch it in…but I’d still say that was execution over playcalling.

When you go back and look at that game…it is just impossible to comprehend all of the utter garbage (successful onside kick by Tech?) that UGA fit into that game. People hang on the squib…but honestly, that game was one of the worst performances from a mental standpoint I’ve ever seen UGA have. I still think it had much to do with the Arky/Mizzou outcome, but that’s speculation obviously.

            • Irwin, you’re not even close. If you watched side by side replays of Tech ’14 and Vandy ’13, you would change your stated position. THAT was the worst performance UGA had shown in years….IMO.

His D never held us back when he was at Auburn, but since then we’ve never scored more than 24 against his UF defenses. And his Aubie & UF defenses were murderous against the rest of the SEC, at least as long as the offense wasn’t handing the other team the ball.

Don’t know if we’d want him as HC, but his D is the real deal.

ACC seems more likely, especially with the “fruit basket turnover” at NC every few years. Hey… how about this?

  7. Pretty intense guy. Knows defense. Great recruiter. But… there is just something outta focus with him. I had a superintendent once with a temper like his. He once moved a siding contractor’s truck with a lull because it was blocking the front of an apartment building and they couldn’t off load the sheet rock. And they couldn’t find the owner/driver. Turns out the owner went with his crew to lunch. A lull is like a tall forklift with big wheels. He not only moved it but placed it in a ditch. His explanation was ” I told him twice not to tie up my deliveries with that damn truck!” Well then.

I see big transition now, though. The drill sergeant type supers are being replaced by the professional college graduates. Not as many using years in construction to get that position. Some seem to lack that edge needed to work both sides of the line like a superintendent has to. My grandfather was a ball breaker. I remember some of his rants when he would take me on his projects, back before liability ruled the day. Muschamp is definitely old school.

  8. I think he blew it. There was going to be no shortage of opportunities for him if he had just been patient, both as DC in the pros and HC in college. I think his wounded pride got the best of him, and he jumped at the first half decent opportunity that came his way. I don’t think he is going to burnish his rep on the Plains given how much time his D is going to spend on the field.

  9. I will give him credit, though. Much like Dooley at UT, Muschamp did a pretty good job of cleaning things up down there. He was the coach they needed but not the coach they wanted.

I don’t know but if he did, he’s earned a lifelong place on my shitlist. That’s beyond any accepted norms and makes him a despicable person if true. It could be that he contracted the dreaded gator disease, grew scales and lost his mind.

I just met a a group of LSU people in the Arizona desert. They’re convinced that Kiffen will be their head coach when Miles retires. And they think it’s a good thing. I’m not joking.

Has a head coach fired by an SEC school ever subsequently been hired as HC by another SEC school? I can’t think of one.

Georgia’s next coach will be neither Muschamp nor Smart. Kirby will stay with Saban until Nicky retires to become president of UAB, at which time the football program will be resurrected and Kirby will become its coach. Muschamp will leave the South for the Pacific NW, where he will become a DC at six different programs before retiring to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Mike Bobo will stay at CSU for 20 years before retiring to Thomasville.

The next head coach at Georgia will be . . . hell, I don’t know. But it won’t be the three mentioned above. No way.

Oh my sweet Lord God. I can’t believe anyone ever ever ever would suggest Muschamp to uga. He drove a prideful and successful program to losing to GSU. Don’t say its Urban’s fault. Even Zook couldn’t do that.

Did he beat us once? Yes. Say he’s ever to be considered for A head spot in Athens and I’ll barf everywhere and pretend I’ll never read this blog again.

It doesn’t take an astroligist to see the moon without a telescope. And I can see muschamp is never going to be a good head coach. 😉

Why are we even talking about this? Georgia just gave CMR a raise and extended his contract ’til 2019. There will be no new head football coach in Athens for years and years. And it will never be Muschamp anyway.
