It was fun while it lasted.

The only person who’s going to be more upset by this than Bobby Petrino…

… is Josh Harvey-Clemons’ grandpa.

UPDATE:  Recruiting season is a very important time for Todd Grantham.

  1. Go Dawgs!

Makes sense for the Raiders. After all, they know they’ve got two more seasons until it’s even possible that they’ll have to face Nick Chubb.

At least we got to beat the crap out of his defense. That was good enough for me.

The Raiders are where coaches go to die . . . after one year. Best of luck to CTG. He’ll need it there.

I have no love for Granthan, but the Raiders? Isn’t that like Stalin sending someone to Siberia?

  5. What’s funny is in the comments in the grandpa post someone jokingly commented that we would probably play Louisville in a bowl game. And that was way back last April. Astute prediction.

Even as dysfunctional and idiotic as the Raiders are, I can’t see them actually doing this.

This week, the one before Signing Day, is recruiting’s version of Third Down, right? What else would he do but scramble around, show confusion, and offer a big play for Louisville’s recruiting competitors?

So granpa, who didn’t want Josh to come to UGA in the first place and delayed his signing for a day, had a “come to Jesus” moment once he was under Grantham’s tutelage. Now, Grantham won’t be there maybe when his “Xspurt” advice can now be regiven? Naw!!

    Karma.

Running a close third in the disappointment department is Shaq Wiggins, who’s desperately hoping that a new DC will embrace his personality.

That Man’s gonna parlay Mike Bobo’s offense into a D Coordinator job in the NFL. Can Bobo put that on his resume?

Strong should be able to put Granthams season on his resume too. Easy as hell to coach when you have 4 DBs who already know how to play.

Linked in the link in this story.

“Georgia and Louisville once had a series planned for 2011-12, but Georgia canceled it in order to play Boise State. At the time Louisville athletics director Tom Jurich said he hoped to set up a new series with Georgia.”

I’mmmm bettin Ol Tom don’t feel that way no mo.

Here’s wishing Coach Todd Grantham the best at whatever he choses to do. And, p.s., thank you Todd Grantham for your service at UGA. Whereas I do not believe his defenses were the “heart and soul” of the teams during his time in Athens, one of his 4 came up with 2 consecutive stops at the end of the SEC Championship Game just 2 years ago (after giving up 300+ yards rushing in the second half) to give Arron Murray/Richt/Bobo 2 shots to put the Dawgs in the BCS National Championship against a Notre Dame team they would have slaughtered.

Those Oh so close 5 yards were only made possible by a tired Dawg defense that rose to the occasion for CTG one last time, and for that, I thank you Coach Grantham, even if none of the other idiots on this board do.

I’m pretty sure they’ve also forgotten the “Glove Game” in which your 1st year defense showed up, but the offense, a/k/a Murray, Richt and Bobo did not in a loss to George O’Leary to give Richt his first and only losing season.

CTG, you were once the savior of the same chuckleheads who longed for the demise of Willie Martinez and now castigate you on this board. I hope you can at least take solace in the fact that you make more guaranteed money in one year than their collective families could ever hope to.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am very happy with Jeremy Pruitt as our defensive coordinator, but perhaps some of the morons on this board fail to realize that is was CTG, not Get The Picture, that started the anti-McGarity bandwagon that has now led to the opening of the financial coffers to the public embracement of Coach Richt, our assistant coaches and our facilities, and for that, I thank you CTG.

    Good luck and best wishes!

    • You do raise some great, level-handed points. However-ahem-I don’t think CTG has gotten the venom spewed on GTP out of sheer spite. I think the commentariat is reacting to his asinine remarks about the UGA program following his departure.

As for your intimation that CTG sprung the leak on the anti-McG sentiment, I intrigued. What is the factual basis for that comment? That’s the first I’ve heard of that. Honestly just asking.

Personally, I almost forgot every time our defense was not lined up correctly when the ball was snapped, every time a camera showed a towel-holding intern, and every picture of a choke-gesturing-defensive coach behind a looking-down at-the-sideline head coach.

But hey, we got two stops after giving up 300+ yards rushing and the clinching TD, so who’s counting?

    • Cline, CTG never learned to defend the zone read. The statistics back up the assertion that his defenses dominated unranked teams, were generally bad against ranked opponents, and were downright terrible against ranked teams that ran the HUNH spread.

      His defenses had their moments:
      1) They played well enough in The Game That Shall Not Be Named in Memphis for us to win.
      2) The defense played well enough against USCe in 2011 to win except for turnovers and special teams.
      3) His defenses did well against Florida in 2011-3 and were key to those wins especially in 2012.
      4) The defense played lights out against LSU and Michigan State in 2011 in the 1st half but then forgot the game lasted 60 minutes.
      5) They dominated The Genius in 2011-2 in routs of tech
      6) They played a great 1st half against Alabama in 2012 and, once again, forgot the game lasted 2 halves

He was better than Two Thumbs but was a lot of talk with little to back it up.

your last sentence sums TG up perfectly. Not a disaster, but not Buddy Ryan coaching the 85 Bears D (as he seemed to see himself). If we could have bought Grantham for what he was worth, and sold him for what he thought he was worth, McTightwad could have paid for a state of the art IPF without touching the reserve fund.

Exactly! it’s not like the offense got the ball at our 15 yard line with just over a minute to play and was able to take it down the field. It was only because of the defense.

CTG liked to talk and one thing I haven’t forgot about is how he used to tell anyone that would listen that in his one gap scheme you didn’t need the prototypical big ugly at nose that commands double teams. Of course the first chance he gets what does he do but goes and brings in the largest one he could find.

    • Cline, are you CTG’s girlfriend? I do not claim to be right about everything but I couldn’t stand TG from day one. He is a buffoon and a fool. He was very childish and his defenses were very inconsistent. ee summed up things very nicely. I am not sure what your point was in talking about TG’s income, but I know of at least on person on this blog who’s income compares to his. Good luck and best wishes to you sir.

C.C., my objection was the use of excuses by Grantham that didn’t fit reality. When you analysed the D play/qtr, it didn’t fit his description of what the problems were. Excuse me while a bad memory comes back into focus under the name of Buffalo. We nearly paid a team to come and beat us in the first game of the season. Buffalo and every other team ran up embarrassing rushing yardage. One excuse that he seized upon that was an oxymoron (and used by some here) was that Bobo had to slow down Murray from scoring so fast because he was wearing the D out by putting them back on the field before they were fully rested. Analysis of 3rd qtr data, after the halftime resting break, showed that rest didn’t help either. Same for 1st qtr in many games.

Hell, Grantham’s (800k/yr) last two years actually made Bobo (200k/yr) become the top O coach in the SEC (and pretty much the nation) whereas he had to turn up the scoring machine to overcome the deficit that Grantham seemed to place us into every game. So another left-handed compliment to Grantham’s resume was born – he accounted for Bobo’s success.

I like it when someone takes up for anyone being maligned by our collection of fans here who vary from sycophantic to well-informed to flag wavers who all have the welfare of our team in our hearts (not so much certain coaches). There was no mistake by anyone who has maligned Grantham for the heartache he caused our team, coaches and fans. McG seemed to be his only fan from the start and continuing toward the last of Grantham’s stay, but there were some here who continued to make excuses for him. Perhaps you, C.C., are the last.
