There’s at least one person who takes Greg McGarity at his word.

Bill Shanks takes a look at what’s gone on with the Georgia football program over the last two months and concludes that Mark Richt’s contract extension (and the raises for the assistants and the move to build the IPF) resulted from winning the Belk Bowl.

This is the first thing I’ve ever read by Bill Shanks, to my knowledge, so I know I’m basing this on the smallest sample size possible. But based on this one piece, Bill Shanks is a douche.

Bill Shanks argues his point on record vs ranked teams. Well, Coach Richt fixed that, went #1 in the nation with his 4-1 records vs ranked teams in 2014. No team did better. Seems a really dumb uninformed article overall. Coach Richt is #4 in win % of coaches w/ at least 100 games under their belt as a Head Coach. He’s right up there near the top of the list with Saban & Meyer in win %.

Not bad company. Constitutes greatness to most reasonable people.

I’ll give the h8erz credit for their commitment to howling about Richt not doing well against the Top 25. Sure, we were pretty awesome against the Top 25 this season, but what about 2010, huh? WHAT ABOUT 2010?????

All previous arguments are rendered invalid by Richt’s poor showing in his three losses this season.

We’ll let you know what his latest weakness is soon.

We only accept such stats when WE get to choose what period they’re cherry-picked from.

I am not a fan of Shanks…at all. And living in Macon, he is the only option for sports radio I had until I finally quit it all together. But what gets me about these sort of silly arguments is the badgering of the record since 2008, when in that time, there were simply not good teams. Poor record against not just ranked teams but all teams, period.

In the article you linked to in the cooments, he says that the record against ranked teams was 10-19. Two years later, he badgers the record is 14-21. In the last two years, the record was 4-2. 5 years after the train wreck of 2009 and 2010, he skews the stats to prove his point. It is going to take several more years of success against ranked teams to wash the awful record steming from 2008-2010 away.

It is like the record against Florida. Look at last 5 years. Bringing up 3-18 record now is not going to do any good. It is nonsense.

Sirius satellite radio. Avoid all the local yokels. Highly recommended.

+91 Since FBomb left for ESPN, I can now listen to Sirius/XM CFB Channel 91 all day long rather than changing to something else during the 3-7 timeslot he ruined for everyone but the very lowest echelon of Tide fans. Jack Arute, with his love of all things from 40 years ago (with the Big 10 and ND hiding from everyone else in bowls), can test me some days but for the most part I can avoid all local programming and hear a much broader perspective from better informed fans. Have it on my home network too and listen through Sonos.

    • Shanks is consistent, Ya gotta give him that. A Richt hater no matter what Richt accomplishes or fails.

I always get a kick out those who proclaim that Bama or Auburn or LSU would fire a coach with Richt’s record. There is zilch to support such nonsense. Bill Curry quit and there were a whole host of other issues…being a Bobby Dodd guy and not beating Auburn for two. Otherwise they have only fired crap coaches. Auburn has had so much in house intrigue with their various cliques, who knows why they really fired who they did. And when was the last time LSU fired a coach with a record approaching Richt’s?

That old line about these other schools firing someone with Richt’s record is so much BS.

With all due respect, my 13 year old nephew’s writing is better than his, and it certainly comes across in a more intelligent manner. And what’s the deal with him using “duh” in his articles, such as the one SB linked? Just embarrassing.

With that said, if all this just part of his overall shtick, then I guess the joke is on me.

Mr. Shanks is one of those people who believe all seasons which do not end in a national title are equal.

Just shanks will do gravidy, he hasn’t earned enough respect to be called Mr. Why do the people in middle Georgia torture themselves with such a negative, shallow disposition? So 15% of the audience are haters and the others either flip the channel, or steam while driving? I don’t understand today’s marketing I guess, people I know are old and don’t need any additional aggravation in their lives so hearing some old fool rant against what I love isn’t something that will make me support those sponsors.

Is Shanks related to Michael Carvell? I would assume trolls have families.

Okay so must of us assume that McGarity wants Richt’s failure to be Richt’s fault and not his so he raises him and gives him an extension. If Richt wins a NC McGarity looks good. Either way McG has covered his butt while Shanks and the vocal minority still have to wait it out. Shanks’ logic dictates the contract will be extended again next year and Ray Goff had a record like Richt.

Bright Idea – I don’t know why they gave Richt two years and a pay raise. But I do like your logic better than the Grand Canyon leap of logic made by Shanks that Richt got the raise and the extension because he beat the ‘Ville in a crap bowl game. That makes no sense. As a friend once said, Shanks appears to be “on the spectrum.”

Richt got an extension because after this year he only would have had 3 years remaining under his old contract which would have been used against UGA on the recruiting trail.
