Now this is awkward.

There’s something highly amusing about an ESPN reporter seeking comment from ESPN about Bill Hancock telling ESPN to stuff it over the idea of moving the semi-final games to a more viewer-friendly (i.e., higher ratings) January 2nd date.

A representative for ESPN declined comment.

Public comment, anyway.

I like apparently many others just assumed the semifinals would rotate to new years day. I should have known that the “tradition” of the Rose bowl (no SEC, ACC, or Big 12 teams) would figure out a way to screw up a playoff just ass they did the match ups during the BCS era (remember number 16 Illinois to the Rose).

Just as soon as they (ESPN) offers more $$, tradition will change.

Really tired of the Rose Bowl and Notre Dame wagging the Dawg when it comes to playoffs. If the Rose Bowl doesn’t want to be involved, let them go it alone, don’t negotiate with them because there are many cities/bowls that would be happy to be included. Same with ND, the only times they were involved in the BCS they were proven to be not worthy. Frankly, the primary reason for the Rose Bowls’ ratings were they had an exclusive time slot on New Year’s Day at a time when everyone was still awake. As a general rule there were far better matchups in the Sugar, Peach, Orange.

That is my point exactly. Either put the best match up on the field that you can or go do your own thing and leave the rest of us alone. When the Rose bowl does come up in conversation it is usually referring non traditional match ups from the past such as Georgia, Alabama, or more recently when Texas played in the game. This also points out that the “tradition” has not always been bigten/pac12 though that is what we are led to believe.

I would rather watch football on New Year’s Eve than any of the countdown shows…….

Some of these games will be on while most people are at work.

That’s exactly what happened to me this year; I missed a bulk of the games because they were all on during the workday on NYE. I work in an office, and no one was closing it down early because of New Year’s or football games.

I don’t think this issue is dead yet. ESPN runs college football, not the NCAA and the conference commissioners. I also love the Swarbrick has the power of a conference commissioner. When has Notre Dame been relevant since 1986?

    • Just to be difficult, the answer is 1990 when Colorado (how bout that for relivence?) beat them in the Orange bowl so the Buffs could tie with tech for the MNC, making tech ‘cotechs’. Tech tied UNC that yr & Col beat Mizzou on 5th down. Horrible yr for CFB in general & the last time ND was relivant. Kinda funny if you ask me.
