Take back the offense!

Barrett Sallee is firmly convinced that the only way Mark Richt can undo the damage that will be caused by his unfortunate decision to hire Brian Schottenheimer (he gives it a “D+” grade; no other SEC coordinator hire is scored lower than a “C+”) would be to take back the reins as offensive coordinator.

No, really.

Former coordinator Mike Bobo earned the trust of head coach Mark Richt to become Georgia’s play-caller late in the 2006 season. If Richt doesn’t take it back, Georgia’s offense will take a step back under Schottenheiemer.

No word from Sallee on what else Richt can have Schottenheimer do for that $950,000/year he’s drawing down.  Suggestions?

UPDATE:  As reactions go, this seems a tad overwrought.

This from a website where every story is a slide show. What a waste of click bait.

Seeing how he rated some of the other hires, I have to conclude that Mr. Sallee is an idiot.

These are the NFL head coaching records of Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz, respectively. How could one expect any of them to have any better success at the college level? You’d have to have the intellect of a Barrett Sallee to think any one of these guys, much less all three, could succeed at the college level.

Now a Charlie Weis? He won three Super Bowls as an OC in the NFL. THREE!!! He’d be a great hire at the college level as a HC or an OC. How could you lose?

All of this reminds me. Is there a requirement that you undergo a lobotomy to be either a sportscaster or sportswriter? The correlation is just too strong to suggest mere coincidence.

  7. Sallee is an Auburn shill. The guy has no idea what he’s talking about. He’s the online version of the “King of College Football” on Atlanta sports radio. Guys who are NFL offensive coordinator for 9 years will be clueless in the college game. Uh huh, Barrett. Did Gus ask you to write that for him?

Senator, I quit reading the AJC a decade ago, I don’t want to be a part of their click bait. The only time I wind up there is when you unwittingly send me there. I have never read Bleacher Report because, well, it’s the Bleacher Report and now you have unwittingly sent me there. If you’re earning a buck from my click, fine I will gladly click, but if not, PLEASEEEEEEEE for the love of God, don’t make us go to either site without a disclaimer. Your humble servant,

When does the ascension of Faton during spring practice begin?

  10. Ha, to be fair, none of us were calling him an idiot when he picked us to win the SEC and make the playoffs before last season. I like Barrett Sallee and Mike Felder, they’re the only guys on B/R that I follow. Now this particular example is not one of Sallee’s finest, he’s really reaching on this one. But overall I like him, he calls them as he sees them, even if he does see them wrong sometimes (don’t we all?).

I can’t remember if I said it, but I thought anybody who picked us to win the SEC and make the playoffs before last season was an idiot…or simply ignorant.

I guess I was an ignorant idiot because I really thought, looking at the schedule, that Georgia would win the East and, if the Dawgs beat Bama in the SECCG (admittedly a big “if”), would be in the playoffs. Silly me.

To beat the horse into the mud, we were favored in every game, I believe. Not a stretch to think last August it could be a special year.

Folks, in spite of my close relationship with the Kharmic Bitches, I have no crystal ball, but I can look at a football roster and deduce we had some serious gaps in the fronts on both sides of the football, problems on special teams and in the kicking game (which were worse than I feared). And a new quarterback who had very little experience under fire, who was replacing a quarterback who was a four-year starter. This is simply not a formula for high expectations, it seems to me. Kool Aid has always given me heartburn.

2014…the only hole I see in 2015 is the continued kicking game questions and, of course whether we can find some deep route receivers who will/ can catch the ball if it gets to them, and of course, how long it takes Faton to ah…well, you know.

“Yes, Nick Chubb will be lining up in the backfield, but you can’t win division titles and be relevant in the national picture playing ‘Nick Chubb left’ and ‘Nick Chubb right.'”

That (and its Gurley equivalent) got Georgia to 10 wins last season, and if it weren’t for a Rube Goldberg experiment of nonsense that happened in Mizzou’s favor, would’ve won a division title indeed.

    Dude’s a hack.

Probably some slight, real or imagined. I see that sort of thing coming from writers about athletes and coaches a lot and it’s always a personal vendetta caused by the guy refusing an interview or something like that. The writer says to himself: “I’ll show him!” All it does after a while is blow back on the writer when enough people figure out he’s FOS and stop reading/listening. Best thing to do: Don’t read his crap and for goodness’ sake, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK.

  16. Just to be clear, BS on BR is rating this guy:
“On February 1, 2013, Mike DeBord was hired by Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon to be the sports administrator for the school’s Olympic sports teams. In this role he works with the field hockey, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s tennis programs.”
This guy – Mike DeBord — who is now the new OC @ UT — is rated a full letter grade higher (C+) than a coach who was an Offensive Coordinator in the NFL for the last 9 consecutive years. Just to be clear. Ooohhhhhkkkaaayyyy. That makes TOTAL sense. Ha.

I admire the measured eloquence of the guy who responded to Barrett.

Also, just would like to point out that Schotty could lead the league in offense and still not match Bobo’s numbers which would allow Barrett to say: “See? I told you so.”

I thought this too after reading, “…Georgia’s offense will take a step back under Schottenheiemer.” I mean, odds are the Bobo led offense might have taken a step back under Bobo at some point. When you keep breaking school records year after year, it’s hard not to come back down at some point (and still be the class of the league). Schotty will not have to set records. The element we’ve been missing to win championships is dominant defense anyway. That is the difference between early RIcht and recent Richt. Play stout consistent defense and we will win big. Plain and simple.

Question is what would he have or did he rate Ellis Johnson coming back to Auburn from So. Miss? My best guess is that he would have put him in that A- to A+ category similar to the other D Coordinator that couldn’t cut it as a head coach. He don’t know shit from shinola.

The hard decision, when ranking Auburn’s moves, is whether to go A+ or A++. Glad they pay him the big bucks to decide.
