“You can’t have the animals running the zoo in a college education.”

Pat Fitzgerald thinks it was a tragedy that he had to spend time “educating” his seniors about unionization.

It sure would have been a lot easier if somebody would have just made it illegal. Then you wouldn’t have to spend any time explaining yourself.

Those Northwestern kids are undoubtedly too naive and stupid to know what’s good for them.

Eh, I’m all about protecting the athletes. On the other hand, it is not the head coach’s responsibility or any coach for that matter, to have to explain and spend a lot of time talking about unionization. They are already under many time constraints and I think Fitzgerald was being honest in saying the subjects of last year didn’t lend themselves to Northwestern being a better football team. It was a distraction that took away from them getting better at football. I don’t see how anyone can argue that.

  3. “Animals running the zoo”?! Wow. At best that’s incredibly disrespectful toward the student-athletes who are actually out there sweating and busting their asses on the field. At worst it’s just a straight-up dog whistle.
