“I see a lot of John Mackovic in Patterson.”

It’s coming from Chip Brown, who’s certainly had his share of misses over the years, so take it with a grain of salt, but I can’t say I’m surprised to hear that the biggest asshole in college athletics is rubbing some of Texas’ big donors the wrong way.  (h/t)

      I won’t say this quite approaches what happened at Michigan – but the base is eerily similar. Standoff-ish dick AD cares only about the bottom line and rubs alumni the wrong way. They care more about “branding” than the average fan of their team. At least Brandon probably took care of the big $$ alums. I see this ending poorly.

      Eh… Patterson never should have been hired in the first place. He’s got a long, unpleasant history as an AD/GM elsewhere.

          Well, “brains” and folks pulling the strings do always go hand in hand. Committee hires can be terrible because it’s consensus based. UGA has had some bad committee driven coaching searches.

        How do pricks like Patterson get jobs like he gets anyway? It’s not like he has been ultra successful at prior destinations. Plus, as best as I can tell, his primary talent is pissing people off.

        Not only that, but damn, UT has a lot of cooks in the kitchen. I understand these folks give, it sounds like some folks need to find a hobby other than UT football.

    I know John Mackovic very well. With his GQ dress style, he wasn’t a great fit for the Texas sidewalk group like Mack was with his boots, but he isn’t anywhere near a prick, or someone who would overpower the UT power group. Bet ol’ Chip liked him just fine when he won Big 12 Coach of the Year for the Horns, but now shoots him in the back with off the mark commentary. Classy guy.
