One of Georgia’s 2015 signees, Tae Crowder, is scheduled to take his official visit on March 21, when he will see the school and meet his coaches in person for the first time.
As Mark Richt points out, it’s not like that’s a first for the program.
“Timmy Jennings was that way,” Richt said. “We offered Timmy the night before signing day. (He was going to sign with South Carolina State).
“Kenarious Gates, we offered one or two nights before signing day. Gates started three years for us, and Timmy was the last guy in his class to come in – and I think he was the first one drafted. He became an All-Pro corner.”
If Crowder lives up to the standards of those two, maybe Richt should make last-minute offers more often.
I hope this kid does well in school and on the field. It was obvious from his signing video how much he wants to be a Dawg.
Oh, and I think it’s funny Richt still calls Jennings “Timmy”. 🙂

“Timmy” Jennings is one of my favorite stories. He literally was an afterthought two star. The recruiting gurus were like “oh yea, Georgia signed this guy at the last minute”. You can’t coach instinct and ole Timmy had it/has it.

He looks pretty legit in his highlights. Seems like the big kids with great balance like this guy turn out to be good in college more often than the ones who just outran everybody in high school. Everyone’s fast in college, but balance is balance.

His highlights do look good. Any idea on why he wasn’t more highly recruited?

Seems to me the bigger, power RBs have done far better in our offense than the smaller, speed RBs.

I immediately thought “Well, he’s a Crowder, I hope he doesn’t blow up the locker room”.

Ok, was that really justified?

Yup, a good stiff arm. And he can block too. Good luck!

Great sign-up. The video is impressive. Plus, I really love it when a kid who really, really, wants to play for Georgia gets the chance.

Agreed. Video was fun to watch. I love watching DBs get blown up by a stiff arm. He was just throwing kids down. Plus, it showed him fielding a kickoff! Seems like our FBs struggled with that last year.

With that header I think we’re taking the whole “dawg porn” thing to an extremely graphic level.

Lots of older Dawg fans here in particular, who grew up in the, ahem, hairier 70’s got all hot and bothered, that’s for sure.

Surprised CMR didn’t mention McKenzie and Douglas in those last minute offerings who have turned out to be key producers for UGA. I am still trying to figure how we stole the Human Joystick on the last weekend without ever having a visit.

How late was Mason’s offer?

So here’s CMR, who often signed fewer than he had schollys for, saying how great some of these second tier kids turned out (who were offered at the last minute). So does he deserve a ‘well done’ pat on the back or a ‘wake-up’ slap on the side of the head?

How about “Hmm, I guess sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. “

If he had given schollys to last-minute, marginal players to ‘fill’ the roster and those players turned out as bad investments, people would complain that he was wasting schollys and should have saved them for better, future opportunities. Say as in a great class coming the next year.

Wait, wait, wait…Richt might have known what he was doing? Can’t be right.

He may not be as fast as Gurley or Chubb, but Crowder shares their punishing running style–in fact, if you go back and watch Michel, tackling him’s no walk in the park, either–and the tendency to pick up yards after contact. And just think, not only will he be schooled by three 5 star RBs ahead of him, he’ll be coached by a guy who knows how to make the most out of what you’ve got. I suspect opposing defenses will dread dealing with UGA’s running game the next couple of years.
