Barrett Sallee labels Nick Chubb one of the SEC East’s seven most indispensable players (although he may not be the SEC’s best running back in Sallee’s opinion).
That’s nice, and it may even be true… but weren’t we saying the same kind of thing about Todd Gurley before the start of last season?
Funny how that worked out.
Does Barrett realize Chubb had a total of 8(!) more carries than Williams last season yet out gained him by 350 yards.
But upside, I guess.

In making his point about the Ark RB being unrecognized, he went past the reality of Chubb and boosted the guy as the best out there. The voting audience bit w/o digesting what Sallee was originally intending and stepped on their collective dicks.

Well..he does say ‘he might be the best’ RB in the SEC.
I think the issue is that while Williams was the starter (he started 11 of 13 games), Collins got the press b/c he had 1,000 the year before and had that 200 yard game against TT. So now that the media has hyped Collins for two years, they can then argue against themselves and hype Williams to fill some dead space. And some wonder why journalism is dead?

The only person on planet earth who DOESN’T know how good Williams is appears to be Bert, who refused to hand him the ball the Friday after Thanksgiving, despite Williams gashing Mizzou for 7 yards every time he touched it. I’ll never forgive you, Bert.
That said…he ain’t in Nicholas’s stratosphere. Nick is just plain good. Every time you want to think it’s going to be an average day, he bust off a 40 yard run. Gonna be fun to watch him for 2 more years.

I won’t forgive Bert for that game either. rarely does a coach lose a game but Bert has to take a major share of that loss to Mizzou. Not only did he limit their prized running game, he left a cripple in at QB who could not only deliver the ball within 15 yards of wide open receivers, he couldn’t even pick himself up off the ground due to injury and pain. His decision to not bring the younger brother in at QB as the problem became more obvious was reckless, and negligent, imo.

Chubb is the best running back at Georgia and I tend to believe he’s the best running back in the conference. I’m obviously biased. If, God forbid, he went down with an injury I think Georgia would still be able to run the ball. I tend to believe that Keith Marshall will be back to his old self for his senior year. I’m impressed with Sony Michel. And I have heard great things about the new blood coming in. Chubb is head and shoulders above those guys, obviously. I pray he’ll stay healthy this year and make some serious noise from a national perspective. But for the past three years, I’ve absolutely loved our situation at running back and that continues to be the case in 2015.

The guy just writes what pops in his head. Chubb was never the primary back up to Gurley (maybe the Auburn game) that I saw. He didn’t get much time until he started. If memory serves, we do have some receivers coming back as well. By the way, Thank You for NOT having a bunch of pop ups asking you to follow us on facebook, twitter, etc. that we have to decline before reading what you post. Once I know a site has that, I go out of my way to avoid it.

It is interesting how before Michel got hurt last season, Bobo had called him “the 2nd best offensive player” on the roster. Then Chubb went off and Sony (who we know was banged up most of the run in) wasn’t discussed as much. It just goes to show how much talent is in the backfield, let alone hopefully seeing a back to standard Marshall. It’s just really impressive.

The thing is, so many seem to assume that Chubb has already peaked. Why would that be? He was a true freshman last year, and the evidence of his determination to get better was apparent from those great spring “break” clips. I also imagine he’ll step up as a leader.
Also, if you take time to re-watch clips of Michel, he’s a more than adequate potential replacement. Everyone talks about his speed and ability to get to the corner, but the kid delivers downhill blows with just a bit less power than Gurley or Chubb. And he, too, will have a year of experience under his belt.
About Marshall, I love the guy and pray for nothing but the best, but I dunno. He really has not been the same since his injury in ’13. Still, with him, Douglas, Turman and that steal of a freshman (sorry, blanking on his name) in the picture, I think our depth is only a notch below last year’s, if at all.

His indispensability is why we shouldn’t gripe when they don’t give him 35 carries per game, but we will.
