Pay for play isn’t socialism.

But states giving schools money so that they can pay for cost of attendance stipends to aid in recruiting is.  (h/t)

Nearly any time I hear someone complaining about socialism in the US, that person is an evolution-denying redneck of some sort. It’s a crutch for those who cannot intelligently address an issue.

Yes, that’s exactly what I said. It’s 2015. If someone thinks they know better than the scientific community, which has provided this means of communication, that person better have some groundbreaking evidence, or they must be overly stubborn, uneducated, or dumb. Someone can intelligently discuss the merits of having socialist programs, such as public education, but often things are labeled as socialist as a poor attempt to dismiss that thing. If one wants to have a sincere, productive discussion, that’s not the way to do it. I was mainly hoping to curtail any rants about this or that being socialist.

Because I do appreciate the diverse yet thoughtful opinions that are sometimes expressed here.

Have you ever seen the It’s Always Sunny episode “Reynolds vs Reynolds: The Cereal Defense “? They pretty much have this same argument.

I love when people conflate socialism with publicly funded programs.

It’s so cute how ignorant they are.

  2. Also, maybe the science community should look back at history and learn how well socialism works. But they are waaaaay too far advanced to need to look back and learn. Only stupid people learn from the past…

  3. Mike, I’m not talking about this article. I’m talking about the asinine statement in the very first post.

I must be getting old. I remember when this was my favorite Dawg football site. I will check back when the season starts to see if things have changed from the recent trend back to UGA football.

    • At least two or three posts on Georgia football every day aren’t enough for you?

      Man, tough crowd.

You share some really neat articles with us and I applaud your efforts. Your politics are at odds with the traditions that make college football the greatest sporting event in history. If Pansy is the next generation then pack it in… I’m glad fall is great for sailing as well.

No snark intended, but I don’t have a clue what you mean here.

I think there is a growing movement in the left that wishes football and other contact sports would just go away… I think they think football is all about white privilege… plantation politics… unfairness and income inequality. They link college scholarships with income inequality and there is no shortage of trial lawyers trying to get their fingers in the cookie jar. This latest thing with paying players will further ruin the college game and I for one am very sad… while others see it as some kind of social justice. How’s that.
