Start of spring practice: it’s a beautiful day… let’s play two!

I wasn’t there, but plenty of others were.

  • Here’s a good round-up of observations yesterday at Field Stream Forum.
  • Patrick Garbin notes that Jeremy Pruitt hasn’t changed his approach a bit.
  • Nick Chubb, comparing the two offensive coordinators he’s played under:  “He’s a lot nicer,” Chubb said. “That’s pretty much it. They’re both great coaches.” And upon further review?  The niceness may not last either, Chubb added. “It’s his first day,” Chubb said. “It’ll come.”

The best news of all was that Thomas Brown sounds like he gets to play with a full deck of healthy cards.

Tailbacks Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Brendan Douglas were joined in the backfield by Keith Marshall and A.J. Turman, a pair whose 2014 seasons were derailed by injuries. Marshall, who rushed for 759 yards, 6.5 yards a carry and eight touchdowns as a freshman in 2012, is practicing with no limitations according to Richt.

“Keith Marshall is back,” Chubb told reporters. “I’m excited about him having a big year.”

That would be awesome.

I love the attitude of our players…they way they pull for each other. Even when competing for the same position. I guess that’s Dawg Character!

i sure hope AJ Turman can stay healthy. must be frustrating to be injured for the whole time you are on campus.

I’m rooting for Keith Marshall as much as anybody. I’m concerned he might be a little tentative after the injuries. This past season, before he went out he had Richard Samuel disease, falling down if a shadow got too close.

  4. I hope Keith is back and windmilling his way past defenses. I don’t think there’s anybody on the team who has that next gear like he does

Also, I want to see what Turman can do healthy. He seems like he could be a great addition to an incredibly deep backfield.

… incredibly deep” … is appropriate, and incredibly healthy for our RBs at this time of year. If they all are healthy in the first several games, Bama won’t be a hope for us, but instead, a huge reality test for them.

Pretty sure that further wt loss for Marshall will be there to help that ankle stay healthy when he cuts and pours on the coals. That would be a wonderful sight to see again. Don’t look now, but our potential 2k yd gainer may have stiff competition from all those guys; no wonder Chubb worked so hard this summer.

Summer came early this year. 😉

Wha? No one told me it was only Spring beginning today so things have been more than confusing. The grandkids just pulled up stakes today after nearly a week of fun, frying and fishing.

Now where in hell did I put those brownies?

  6. The challenge will be for Schottenheimer figuring out ways to get all these horses on the field together. Honestly, I would be nauseous at the idea of trying to scheme a defense against Chubb, Michel, Marshall, Mitchell, AND our tight ends.

This may be my offensive ineptitude talking, but I think Marshall and Sony may have the diverse skills and abilities to be both on the field at the same time as Chubb.

Don’t forget Isiah McKenzie is in the mix too… 🙂

Yeah, we all have been forgetting Isiah. The only time we see him during the season is when the huddle breaks. Are bike flags permissible during play?

I want to see Marshall have a good year too. But I disagree that nobody else has that other gear that he has. Watch Sony Michel. He may even be faster.

I think he is at least as fast as KM was as a Freshman. So much attention on Chubb, and he certainly earned it, but finding a scheme that works KM and SM into alignments with Chubb will be pure gold. Talk about stress on a defensive coordinator and the LBs/DBs, man that could make this offense the equal of what I think our defense might be. If that happens, UGA will be a Top 5 team regardless of rankings. Put that creativity in the offensive scheme, stop the power run, and you can get ready to order some rings fort his squad. Lots of work to do yet, but this is a very talented team with a great staff.

What a helluva disagreement, Mike. It would be funny if we could elevate the differing nuances of how great these players are into the equivalent of a blog food fight. Of course, many of us can’t type very fast what with the crossed fingers cramping. 🙂
