The article at the link is pretty good, too.
“... Shoot, why does anybody who’s ever won something do it again? Because it’s cool. So, let’s go do it again. Let’s see if we’ve got what it takes.” -- Stetson Bennett, The Athletic, 3/22/22
Any word from Herbstreit? I’m shocked he hasn’t been all over this.

This. I boycotted his pretty-self last year because of his antics against UGA. Haven’t decided about this year yet. It sure was nice not watching Game Day, tho, I’ll say that…

This might come as a surprise to you and others, but UGA is Kirk’s favorite SEC team as is one of the very few programs that he quietly roots for (aside from is well-known affinity for OSU).
Kirk is one of the good guys and is one of the last ones UGA fans should be going after. Let’s just say the he’d love to see CMR win a MNC soon, and leave it at that.

Or we could leave it at we obviously have differing opinions on him. Whether I’m part of the “moronic fringe UGA fans” that he tweeted to or not, I don’t appreciate or need him addressing me/us. With his national exposure I don’t necessary think it’s smart or in our best interest or “nice” of him to be calling us out on a national stage, especially for stuff that everybody else does too. Doesn’t seem like something I would do for someone I “quietly rooted for”, as you put it.
Besides, I’ve never spoken to him but from the salivating over them (like most other espn talking heads), I’m led to believe that Bama is his favorite SEC school, but then again, I certainly don’t have inside access to that knowledge.

I have to agree with 3rg and G on this one–some folks get mad at Pollack too ! those guys have to jump through so many political hoops–you could see Kirk was excited after we beat Clemson last year. The guys are just making a living and some of that means pissing people off from time to time.

Right. I didn’t have much opinion of him until a close relative of mine (a UT grad, btw) who lives close to him in Nashville relayed the pro-UGA info to me several years ago (soon after he moved to Nashville from Columbus), and such tidbits have continued since. The funny thing is it drives him nuts…he assumed Kirk would gravitate towards UT given the proximity, but instead its continued to be general indifference towards the Vols while rooting for OSU and UGA.

Herbstriet is a first class prick but honestly I had pretty much left Game Day behind a few years ago anyway. I used to enjoy it but Fowler is the only one left that you can take even just a little seriously. I was done with Herbstriet after his lobbying/late season change of course in 2007. He had dropped all pretense at that point. Corso barely knows daylight from dark at this point. It would be an act of kindness to take him off the salon and force him to stop e,barraging himself. Desmond actually has his moments but it’s feast or famine and as often as not he sounds like an idiot. I usually put it on as back ground noise the first Saturday of the season but that’s it. If you’re waiting for Herbstriet to give Bammer the same treatment he gave us on the Players supposedly being out of control, you will be waiting a long time I think.

And alas – Fowler is slated to be replaced by Rece Davis this fall as he is taking over the game broadcasting side of things at the WWL.

Major upgrade in my opinion. Fowler is a pompous ass and the less of him the better. Rece Davis at least remembers that these are games that they are covering.
That said, I won’t be watching much anyway.

Huh. I haven’t met Fowler, but I’ve heard nice things from guys that have met him. I think Davis will do just fine in the role. Mike’s right that Game Day is about entertainment and showmanship just as much as it is about information. When they’re trying to keep eyeballs on the screen for that many hours, maybe it has to be.

I have to remind myself that Rece Davis and Chris Fowler are different people.

Off the show. Not off the salon. He might want to stay out of the saloon though,

This tweet is pretty good, but did you see Aaron Rogers’ scathing takedown of blog favorite Dennis Dodd after he got butthurt following the Wisconsin game? Epic.

Not wanting to steal the thread but somebody please explain to me why Charles Wiley, 4 star LB from Stockbridge and # 10 rated player in the state, committed to Ole Miss last night without even having taken an official visit there. $$$ perhaps? Anyone? Beuller?

Or…wild guess here…he liked Oxford and Ole Miss and wanted to play football there. I know, crazy.

Don’t you know? Richt is supposed to recruit all eleventy-seven 3, 4 and 5 star athletes in Georgia?

Isn’t it ironic that the nicest coach in college football gets talked about as 1) not having control of his program and 2) for kicking kids out of the program. While the three snake oil salesmen of the SEC Gus, Nick and Hugh are all about second chances. Media types are too stupid or to much in the tank for personalities to see the big picture.

Not to threadjack, but Holly Anderson has a great piece up today at Grantland discussing the Taylor situation in the grand scheme of things and how it will likely shake out.

You’re right. Very good article…thanks for posting. She’s exactly right…at the end of the day (hell, by mid-morning) the only thing people care about at certain programs is the Ws or Ls. Everything else is just noise. The negative noise is immediately excused away or dismissed by the program and too quickly forgotten by the national college football “voices” whose condemnation might have brought some embarrassment….if these programs/coaches had any shame.

Agreed, and I’ll repeat what I said here yesterday. If I had a daughter getting ready to choose a college there’s no way in hell I’m sending her off to Alabama knowing that the school values its football program more highly than the safety of its own students. Of course, that may be a more sweeping comment considering all the places Taylor had offers from coming out of Juco.

Yeah I agree. We are headed for some sort of crossroads. College football is either going to totally devolve into an utter cesspool or some people with some stroke are going to stand up and say that enough is enough. I think the only way that happens though is if they start to lose viewers in large enough numbers that It gets their attention. And I don’t think we are anywhere close to that. When a Florida State fan told me that they didn’t care what Jaemis Winston was guilty of as long as he kept them in their “rightful place in college football” my worst fears were confirmed.
