Making the Sale

If this keeps up, I foresee a lot more word play in the future for Rob Sale’s last name.

That is some strong recruiting work in a short period, folks.

Of course, that’s only half the question.  The other half is how well the man can close the deal… er, coach.

He’s on the Georgia staff, so it’s no surprise that he’s using spring practice to indulge in a little mad scientist work of his own.

The center position trial is the big issue and the tea leaf reading indicates that Isaiah Wynn may be nudging his way into the lead position there.

… Offensive line coach Rob Sale told reporters after practice that Isaiah Wynn would work again at first-team center in Saturday’s scrimmage. … Sale said that redshirt freshman defensive lineman Lamont Gaillard got looks on offense Thursday and that Hunter Long (three inside positions) and Kendall Baker (right tackle) are the top reserves right now.

Obviously, there’s still a way to go.  But if Sale can coach ’em up as well as he appears to be able to bring ’em in, I can see why they broke the bank, relatively speaking, to get him to come to Athens.

they guy is certainly earning his keep right now.

Also of note is that Price immediately tweeted @ another recruit trying to get him to come to UGA. So hopefully he is another kid who is going to help us recruit.

So many little pieces of what’s been slightly to glaringly missing in Georgia’s program seem to be coming together. Are we finally seeing the complete product we’ve all dreamed of? WOOF!

  5. Yeah, but, Richt’s a bum. Hasn’t won anything in years. Wastes all that talent. We could do so much better. Mediocre at best and always underachieves. Its time for a change.

There, saved you the time to do other things this morning.

Price is the type of OT we’ve sorely been missing. If there’s one thing that sends shivers up the spines of coaches at bama, ut, scu, and aubie it’s UGA selecting the best from other states while pulling in the top recruits in GA! Let the neighboring states fight over the scraps we leave behind.

Anyone know the logic of Lamont Gaillard being looked at for offense? Defensive front seems to be the higher priority for 2015, so does this mean he isn’t working out well at the intended position, or that he has a talent for OL that I just never heard about during his recruitment? I am confident CPJ and CBS’s staffs know what is best but this is an “out of the blue” development to me. Perhaps his body type changed in the past 1-2 years, or we have depth needs at OL, particularly experienced returners for 2016. Seems like a curious development, but Spring is the time for experimenting I suppose.

OK, sorry. Read the link to Coach Sale’s comments after I posted the above but it still seems a surprising development for such a highly recruited defensive player.

Ole Fart observation: During the Donnan years Chris Salfore (sp) was the OL coach. A DLineman Last name Terry was switched to OT and went on to be the best OT we had. He also played in the NFL as an OT. If they are big and have a long wing span (the better to hold you with) they can play OT.

Yeah, I don’t question their wisdom on this, just surprised that a 4 star defensive guy at a position of need would be expendable. Especially given the OL depth we finally have. Hope it works out best for Gaillard and UGA regardless of the outcome.

  8. May be my particular Dawg port fetish, but I don’t see enough about our O-Line unless it is about struggles/shortages. This is good to see. We all know that we’ve needed to pick it up in this department.

Wouldn’t it be great if we field an all star line that boosted our RB stock even more –a la Trent Richardson? Its seems like all we’ve managed to do is showcase what our backs can do when things breakdown and we ask them to get us out of a blocking breakdown. Sure, its not a fair analysis, but sometimes it feels that way. Having said this, I think our line did pretty darn well last year.

If you take what Keith Marshal seems to do…have a little bit of trouble getting past that first contact…and move that first contact a few yards downfield…and think about what he does when he hits the secondary untouched, and then think about Chubb getting even more steam coming through the line….and you are a defensive back for the opposition..you might want to take a sick-day when you face Georgia.

This was the Alabama offensive gameplan in 2012. I’ve never seen such a beautiful thing as that offensive line. They effectively moved the line of scrimmage three yards downfield on every single play.

If Sale is getting paid by the pound he may end up as the highest paid employee in the state.

This is the one area that will provide the greatest improvement to this program and will eventually lead to long term success. Did Richt finally see the light regarding our lackluster OL or did someone else shed light upon this glaring weakness (read Jeremy Pruitt)?

  13. OL has been the big whole in cmr’s career at georgia. Not the coaching but the recruiting. It is the reason we’ve so often struggled to have a winning offensive identity. If we start getting 10 deep across the front with the way we recruit at the skill positions it will be very hard for any east team to compete with us.
