If the fix is in on who’s starting at quarterback, the coaches have done as good a job fooling the players as they have us.

Wasn’t “year 1” when Shockley was still getting playing time till he got hurt, playing, against Tennessee?

I think he was injured in the S. Carolina game..the game is remembered mostly because the monsoon rain and the Pollack sack/safety/forced fumble/interception/touchdown

He was hurt against Tennessee in Knoxville, did something gliding out of bounds after a long run. (I can close my eyes and see his foot coming down funny on the replays…in Knoxville.) He may have gotten hurt in Columbia, too…don’t recall that.

We would have been Auburned because USC and Texas started the year at #1 and #2 and never lost.
It would have been fun to find out …

Yep, youse guys are right…Shock hurt in Columbia…my mistake.

Not sure about Shockley’s injury exactly…but I can tell you we lost to SC at home in Year 1 of Richt and that the Pollack play happened in Year 2 of Richt (’02) which helped us secure the SEC Champ that season.
As far as tenn goes, Year 1 was ’01 – Hobnail Boot and Year 2 – again, ’02 was in Athens when the Dawgs went for a late 4th down and picked it up – also securing that win on route to the SEC Champ.

I thought his first year playing was 2002, UT was in athens that year.

2002 was his first dominant year, but he played as a true freshman in 2001. I think he was wearing a different number besides #47, too, but I can’t remember what his number would have been.

That’s right. Shock was a redshirt freshman in 2002. He did not play in 2001.

This is based on literally nothing, but my read of the players is that they like/want Park. The linked article doesn’t show it as much as other things I’ve read, but you really get a fanboy sense from the team regarding Jacob. I know the QB first and foremost needs to be able to play the position, but that has to matter, right?

Are we going to go through a QB battle again the following year?

Probably

Eason will be interesting to watch. I will be very surprised if Ramsey is not the starter.

And if he gets hurt, Eason plays and Ramsey transfers for lack of playing time after that.

Just to clarify I see Ramsey starting this fall. After Eason arrives the following season, it will be very interesting to watch. Doesn’t he plan on enrolling early?

No way Eason starts as a true freshman. It’s just not done unless you have nothing else. QB is just too complicated a position. Stafford started only because we had nothing else and he was not that great his freshman year. Manziel and Winstion were redsirt freshman Big difference.

I disagree with that statement. Joe Cox had a healthy arm which is something he didn’t have most of the year he had as starter. He was a viable option for starting QB.
LikeLike
You are correct. IIRC Cox started a couple of games that year. But do you disagree that it would be extremely difficult for a true freshman to be an effective QB in today’s game?

You are debating the wrong topic. The question is would Richt be enamored enough with a big arm top prospect to start him or give him the chance to start? Based on past performance the answer is yes. Stafford’s redshirt Fr. year ws burned early on. I do disagree with that move and believe Cox should have started and Stafford redshirted.
I do think you have a point and further the last 3 UGAs QB to have a single digit INT totals Mason, DJ, and David Green none of whom started as true Freshman.

And, who will transfer?

Park or Ramsey. Faton is already a RJr and probably knows he can’t get to the NFL.

I personally don’t care who winds up being the starter. The guy who shows he’s the right guy will get it. People seem to be rooting for one of the three. I personally just want the best of the three to get it and none of us can possibly know which one is the best.

Ditto.

+1 – I don’t care who the starter is. Unlike what the sock puppets believe, the only two guys who know the answer to the question of who gives the team the best chance to win are Mark Richt and Brian Schottenheimer. I’ll support whoever wins the job, and if others decide to transfer, I’ll wish them the best in their future endeavors as long as it’s not at another SEC program.

Why do you say that? If they decide to transfer, we should wish them the best. It would seem only natural that they would transfer within the conference.

Generally unless your starter is incredible another SEC school is not going to want your qb who was not good enough to start.

I don’t care if they transfer within the conference. I’m just not going to give them the same support I would otherwise. Same for tech.

Nothing is ever set in stone but here’s how I believe it will play out: Ramsey will be announced as starter right after fall semester. Faton will play backup and Jacob Park will transfer. I just don’t see Jacob Park as a team fit

I wish them all well.
But remember this is UGA, where law enforcement officials make many of the opening day starter decisions.

Other than Mett’s run-in with the Lowndes County PoPo, we’ve never had a potential starting QB get suspended.

Not to put the hex on us, but does anyone find it strange that out of over 100 some-odd players there has been no suspensions to this point?
Do you think the players or the staff have been doing a better job of this?

I wonder if they stopped the drug testing after spring break if not this team finally gets it and wants to play more than they want to enjoy the party.
