“Jacob hasn’t 100 percent made up his mind yet.”

Maybe he just wants more attention from his coaches.

And I worry every year there won’t be anything to post about mid-June.

Won’t take his coach’s phone calls? Damn he thinks a lot of himself.

    • I just hope that this process has been transparent. When Eason said that they got lambert in case someone transferred, I got the impression that maybe he said too much as in the coaches said “depth” to park and “park’s outta here” to Eason. Had we not clumsily handled qb situations before (remember the kid from Columbus and the Nash and Darrick Rogers and Hutson saga?) I wouldn’t be so cynical. The timing right after those comments from Eason are troubling from the perspective of just treating people fairly. As far as the substance, it seems to me that we selfishly gain far more from the kid staying than he does personally. We want him for scout team and depth, but he’s talented enough to play big time college ball. How does he hang around? His chance window is beating out Eason before the 2017 season. Anyone think that happening who has seen Eason on film? I don’t. Park will not be the starter either this year or next barring significant injuries. He will be a very valuable scout team qb for us if he stays.

True, Derek. If he’s good enough to play somewhere, that’s best for him..and he needs to do what’s he deems best for himself because if he doesn’t he may always regret it as he wonders what might have been.
        It’s a tough situation.

I think you’re going a bit far with this. CMR surely has his faults, but suggesting he might be lying to the kids is unfair. Don’t you think the way he’s conducted himself the last 14 years has earned him the benefit of the doubt?

How do you know Park didn’t tell the coaches he was thinking of leaving right after the spring game – before UGA started looking at other quarterbacks? If that was the case, why shouldn’t they explain to a QB commit why they’re adding more-than-average depth?

As far as Park, yes, he may think his best chance is somewhere else, and he may be right, and we can wish him well if he decides that. However, don’t blame the coaches for wanting depth and talent – that’s hardly some nefarious secret. We’d be screaming our heads off around here if we had a bunch of walk-ons backing up our starters in the interest of fairness to the backups who could compete for a starting gig elsewhere.

Lastly, you just never know what’s going to happen – look at Ohio State’s QB situation last year. Look at Nick Chubb, who signed after Gurley and Marshall. Park has talent – what if it takes Eason longer than anticipated to learn the system? What if Park works his tail off and secures the starting job and Eason can’t knock him off, or Eason redshirts then breaks his arm or something?

        • I’m not accusing anyone of lying but simply being clumsy or non-transparent. We know that we told a qb from carver he didn’t have a scholly offer until AFTER he arrived on campus with a bus load from Columbus a few years ago. We know we told nance Nash’s dad that his kid wasn’t getting a scholly that year bc we weren’t taking a qb only to lose Darrick Rogers in the process when we offered Hutson. I’m not saying anyone’s lying but you get in deep telling people two sides of the same truth. I don’t accuse anyone of lying but rather suggesting that what might have been emphasized to park may have been different than what was emphasized to Eason. Doesn’t make either untrue. Is it possible that park was upset that Eason was told that park was on his way out IF park hadn’t said any such thing? I could see that. I could see that triggering a not so well thought out exit. Not saying I’m right just trying to suggest a common sense hypothesis.

Or maybe the coaches told him all sorts of things in the recruiting process about having an opportunity to compete and maybe they haven’t lived up to their end of it.

Or maybe the coach he bonded with took an HC position somewhere else.

It’s not always the players. You’re being dramatic.

You know, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Park wants to go to Colorado State. I just hope Bobo isn’t backing off because of his relationship with CMR. Now THAT wouldn’t be fair to the kid.

Bobo wouldn’t be trying to recruit the kid away from UGA. But if the kid wants to leave and wants to play for Bobo, then Bobo isn’t telling him no. That’d be dumb.

    Jacob, if you’re reading this:
    Talk to your coaches (again)
    Talk with your family
Talk with anyone else whose advice you want and trust
Make your decision and don’t look back

If you stay, get back to work and compete like you’ve been doing
If you decide to go, ask for Coach Richt’s help in deciding which program might best fit your situation; his recommendation will carry a lot of weight

    If you stay, welcome back
If you do decide to go, do it with the class you’ve shown thus far
Either way, very best of luck and thanks for being a Dawg.

Silly me, he’s nineteen-years-old and I suppose he should’ve managed things like he was, say, thirty-eight (which was Brett Favre’s age when he handled his departure from the Packers so gracefully). In any event, I wish the kid well.

            Like

            • Certainly, this anonymous blogger feels at a loss when one such as you is not amply entertained and amused by my posts. More to the point. IF I were a 20 year old Jacob Parks who has worked his tail off in HS to get here and worked the practice squad for a year I might be a bit conflicted over my future chances at starting as an SEC quarterback for Georgia. I imagine that with his limited role during Spring game and the addition of a transfer qb with experience he must see his window of opportunity closing and he never envisioned himself in the role of the back up quarterback. The lesson here is that life is inevitably going to throw us curveballs and place obstacles before us. It’s how we react to these challenges that define our character. How Jacob responded to his day at skeleton drills was to return to the locker room. Clean out his locker and pack his gear and …leave. Post a message on Facebook telling all goodbye and thanks and then not respond to his coaches calls.
The quarterback is the heart and soul of a team. He leads the team down the field. He picks them up and puts them on his shoulders and wills the team on. Picture Aaron Murray against the Barners on the quarterback draw for 6 to put his team ahead. He took a brutal shot to the head making that score. That’s a quarterback and leader who doesn’t quit.

He has packed his bags without notice and does not answer his coaches phone calls. And that’s not good. This must be a sensitive subject for you. We all have a little baggage from life’s mistakes and missteps. Just let it go.

                • Lol. Actually, Bill Gates was a pre-law major at Harvard. He had no definite study plan while at Harvard but loaded up on graduate computer science studies and some math courses as well. He had already run a business venture with Paul Allen by this time while in High School. When MIT released the Altair in his soph year he and Allen (still friends) decided to start a computer company. He went to his academic adviser and his parents and they were so impressed with his plans that they agreed he and Paul should give it a shot. Where upon he left Harvard. Gates really had no students equal to his skill set and his algorithm for pancake sorting was the fastest and held that speed record for 30 years. Look I got nothing against Parks moving on to greener pastures. Happens all the time. But go to your coach look him in the eye and say maybe this just ain’t working for me and I need to move on to a place better suited for my talents. And there is still no guarantee that if he moves to another school he will see the field. Wish the kid all the luck in the world. And you have a good day.

Actually Bill Gates stated in an interview that he wanted to be a mathematician but changed when he realized he just didn’t have what it takes to be one of the best. He wasn’t ashamed of this, and I think he made a pretty good choice. He may have stated elsewhere that he was pre- law, but that’s not what he said in the interview I saw.

I don’t think transferring to another school to play football there is the same thing as “quitting.” People have been using that term in a derogatory way for years to (1) get other people to do what they want (“If you don’t go out there and run 50 laps in the 100 degree heat for no other reason than I said so you’re a QUITTER!”); and (2) to punish that person for not doing what they want him to do (“You didn’t run those 50 laps in 100 degree heat for no reason ‘cept I said so–YOU QUITTER!”). SOS is a great example. He loves to call people on his team that don’t live up to his expectations “quitters.” So, AHD, you and SOS have something in common.

This. If you are unhappy with your progress, or lack thereof, at your current job, are you a “quitter” for leaving for a perceived better opportunity? You are simply trying to improve your situation. More power to the kid and good luck, but just get on with it already.

I have said the before when kids have quit, but once you ring that bell there is zero chance of success if you return. When it gets rough, and the going will get rough at some point, you will always have quitting in the back of your mind. I hope the kid lands on his feet at the school of his choice and has roaring success.

Agree 100%. This is like your wife telling several friends she wants to divorce you and when you hear about it and try and find her to talk about it, she doesn’t come home and doesn’t take your calls. That would be all the shit we have run to set scoring records and average over 40 points a game. But one or two plays did not score TDs since there was another team on the field playing defense so of course CMB and CMR are idoits.

Yep. That’s conservative alright. Juan may be referring to the fact that Park can keep his feet moving the ball down the field when plays fall apart. It doesn’t affect his ability to throw and manage the team (looking at it objectively, his was the best experience we have in that category until Lambert arrived). CMR and Co have preferred a more controlled O that doesn’t give them butterflies every time a QB touches the ball. I think Juan, like some others, might prefer to see a hotshot in the game from time to time and tame the D against us by having daring play that no one knows where the ball is going or who has it.
