Tuesday morning buffet

Sample exotic dishes from around the world of college football… just kidding.

  • Georgia Southern takes tailgating to the next level. (h/t)
  • When Virginia faced Louisville last season, Greyson Lambert got some tips about Todd Grantham from former Georgia quarterback Parker Welch.
  • I’ve got to admit, if Georgia Tech won the ACC this season and this happened, I’d enjoy it.
  • Mark Richt made a recruit berry, berry happy the other day.
  • Why is Kentucky opposed to satellite camps?
  • And why is Alabama’s quarterback situation any more intriguing than Georgia’s?
  • Richt and Schottenheimer did a good job of tag teaming Georgia’s first commit for the class of 2017, Bailey Hockman.

Baily Hockman’s father had some pretty telling remarks about how CMR is regarded among HS coaches and parents (he is the coach at McEachern).
It’s all good! Georgia’s program..near the top…is on the rise.

If you think about it, Bailey Hockman made a great decision to go to Georgia even with Eason in Athens. If Eason arrives early (which is supposed to happen) and starts as a freshman (2016), then plays 3 seasons and leaves early for the NFL like Staff, Eason is gone after the 2018 season. Hockman would arrive in Athens after his 2017 HS senior year and would be a freshman in Fall, 2018. If Hockman red-shirts, the two never will be in direct competition for starting time.

If GT wins the ACC this season..that is reason enough to exclude that conference form any consideration for the final four. There are so many ifs and buts in that article that you can draw any conclusion you’re predeposed to desire. He even suggests that the ACC is now on par with the SEC. Seems like he just sat down and started typing and got carried away with scenarios and possibilities. I think GT will have a bad season and part of it will be at the hands of the Dawgs.

You need to look at the 2015 GT schedule Ug. Remember, GT is in the ACC. I only see 3 regular season losses on that weak-ass schedule for Tech and 2 are OOC game losses (UGA and ND). Tech will likely win their division with only 1 conference loss and play in Charlotte against a weakened FSU team. Tech could very well win the ACC this year. If Tech win the ACC, that conference will definitely get locked out of the 4 team playoff.

Agree..there’s no way a three loss ACC champ gets in. A two loss SEC champ can though. I say you get no points for winning the WSOCP.

Love the mini split (ductless) systems that GSU used for their tailgate suites. Those things are so energy efficient, its absurd.

      Depends.
Great for spot cooling that bonus room over the garage. Avoids robbing the the main or sizing the main supply and adding returns to accommodate that bonus room. And just where is that refrigerant line located and its length. A 12×32 building like that is perfect for a mini-split. 5000 BTU. But no… regardless of the 30% duct loss challenge, it is not competing with the a well built, properly designed heat pump and ducted house in 2015. Be jealous that GSU made Erk their HC instead.

I disagree. Our second home is a 1400 SF, with cathedral ceilings and two bedrooms upstairs (master on main.) We contemplated going with two interior heads (one upstairs, one down) but instead went with one interior unit/head roughly halfway up the wall in the middle of the living room (10 ft or so) to save on cost. 18 months in, and we are unbelievably thrilled with the results—it keeps the entire house warm all the way down to 5 degrees (house is in northern VA mountains) and plenty cool on even the hottest summer days.

Even better, our heating/cooling costs dropped dramatically over our previous standard heat pump unit; roughly 45-50% in the summer, and close to 60% in the winter. Mini splits easily can heat/cool multiple rooms and not just one main one.

I see. And thanks for the patient response. I applaud you being in touch with that. We all need to be aware of what it costs to control that thermostat. The most import things to consider in HvAC design – house design, # of floors, and location.
          From reading your post:
1400 sq ft.- 2.5 tons heat pump? conventional?
I got the impression you replaced an existing inefficient system. That’s how you got the improvement numbers with the hurrah for the split system.
This a second home. The second home you have lived in vs the first or a “second home” one of two homes you live in. Point being how/when is it used?
If you replaced an older, inefficient system with a brand new 17 SEER split system regardless of your inefficient design and layout of supplies of new system. Yeah … it should cost less. Doesn’t mean the newer is “mo better” than a “newer” ducted system. And no sir. Your placement of supply in a system that dumps hot or cold air with no recirculation of air to remove humidity etc. in Georgia would not have favorable numbers at all. Not even close.

We have the mitsu 2 ton unit, 19 SEER. Its a home we use roughly 90 nights a year. I don’t really care much about its comparison to traditional units and aren’t knocking them at all either. All we know is, it was cheaper (than installing a new unit with a much lower SEER), and our cost savings are far better as well. Top brands like mitsu are more reliable as well and need less service, thanks to the constant, variable speed technology. It also moves air throughout the home very well, and in fact is has a “dry” mode in which it acts as a dehumidifier. We run this mode on many summer days and it keeps our house very dry.

Finally, and here’s the key for us—traditional heat pumps only work down to roughly 30-35 degrees or so, while ours pumps out at 90% capacity all the way down to 5 degrees (with hyper heat models going down to -15). That’s a huge benefit on the many cold northern VA nights in the mountains. Being able to use a heat pump for 99.5% of our heating needs not only is an attractive option, its insanely efficient as well.

I’m not knocking traditional units…just saying that we absolutely love ours and would recommend going the ductless route to anyone.

3rd..I assure you that modern heat pumps work very well down into the low teens and single digits….the early heat pumps did have that rap on them..but even then the negative was exaggerated. The biggest complaint I have against heat pumps is the “defrost cycle” which it sometimes has to run. But very, very efficient.

Cool. Again I’m not ripping traditional units at all…just stating that we love our mini split. Nothing more or less. In fact, we’re looking to build a new home next year, and we most likely will go the traditional route (with wood stove for supplemental heat in winter). IMO, mini splits aren’t for every application, but certainly can be an attractive option for some (perhaps many, based on home design, etc.)

May be considered cheesy by some but that would make attending CFB games attractive to me (multiple TVs, weather proof, all bathroom and cooking facilities. Very novel approach, congrats to them for taking a shot at this first.

The reason the Bama QB race gets the nod is they are Bama, and that is ESPN writing about it. It may really be more significant than the UGA race simply because the Tide’s QB won’t have Chubb/Michel/Marshall/Turman running the ball and Quayvon blocking for them.

That is a hard choice, I guess the one that has the better record/ranking would be my pick. Wouldn’t mind another shot at LSU either, but I don’t see them getting there. Don’t be surprised if Arkansas shows up in Atlanta, there isn’t much difference in the talent level of about 5 of those schools.

Not sure I wouldn’t get more from seeing F Bomb explain two consecutive losses….again. Tough order to beat any quality team twice in a year so I will take the W against Bama and hope one of the Mississippi schools show up in Atlanta (don’t think they will).

Don’t be disappointed in Alabama just yet. I’m looking at plans from an architect in SC for a similar structure mounted on a trailer chassis. Think towable small home craze. He asked what it would cost to do 30 of these. And his client is from… Alabama. I don’t what’s going on in their heads. I’ve know him for a long time but his firm does mostly multifamily in university towns. Anyway that weather proof TV is in the specs.

It wasn’t on your buffet, Senator, but I was just reading where Da’Rick Rogers got unceremoniously dumped by the Chiefs. The last paragraph of that piece (also at CBS Sports) “One reason the Chiefs let him go is the emergency of fellow wideout Chris Conley, who has been a pleasant surprise in practice.”

Not sure if any of you saw, just read today that Da’Rick Rogers was dismissed by the KC Chiefs before their minicamp. Irony is that it’s being reported the Chiefs were comfortable releasing him based on the emergence of Chris Conley in their practices.

What a waste of talent. Saw him play his HS opener and witnessed his ‘tude first hand, Personal Fouls for showboating on the first two times he touched the ball, both TDs. Turned to my TN friend and said, I hope he changes his mind before signing day because we don’t need any more hotshots like that in Athens. He also took plays off when they didn’t involve him.

When he switched to UT and got in trouble before the first season my friend called me and acknowledged this wasn’t going to end well just as we had discussed. You would think when he got kicked off the Vols team it would have been a wake up call. Some folks, as Brother Ray sang it, are “born to lose”.
