This Laremy Tunsil fracas is getting weirder by the day.
By the way, as this post points out, it’s not necessarily a rules violation for Tunsil to meet with agents. But you have to wonder what caused everyone to go medieval on each other if it was simply an innocent get together.

I’m sorry…but it just cracks me up that the order of events is file charges, call football coaches, and show up. Do the coaches in Athens ever gotten a call prior to any department making an arrest?
I’m with you…btw…real ‘agents’ don’t just “ride around” with players. Runners do. And that could be bad news if it’s true.

It actually could be a “real” agent. He’s a top 5 or 10 pick, who’ll play LT in the NFL. They are allowed some contact, they just cannot sign or receive any gifts from agents.

Agents aren’t rolling into Oxford to cruise the town. It absolutely could be that they are taking meetings with real agents, etc. and that was translated into ‘riding around’ with agents. But the point is that ‘real’ agents who would be the type of folks a top 5 pick would/should choose to represent him…such as a Eugene Parker, Drew Rosenhouse, Todd France, Tom Condon, Ben Dogra, Joel Segal, etc….aren’t just “hanging” in Oxford and cruising the town.

No, the “greatest conference in football history” was the SWC. Now THAT was a conference where the $$ flowed. SMU got caught but that’s the only thing they did different than every other SWC school. Texas and A&M made SMU look like a Sunday school and they both got away unscathed.

Um no – the only schools to escape probation in the 1980’s as SWC members were Arkansas, Baylor and Rice. From 1981 through 1990, 6 of the 9 members were on probation for football violations.
4 teams were banned from bowls during that time. UT and Texas Tech both escaped bowl bans but UT was on probation twice in the 1980’s.
The conference had two seasons where two members were banned from bowl – 1986 (SMU & TCU) and 1988 (SMU & Tx A&M). Think about that in today’s terms where conferences have a hard time filling out the bowl docket with eligible teams based solely on won loss records. Imagine the uproar in the SEC if we could fill up our bowl tie-ins because 22% of the conference was on probation.
SMU was banned from going bowls in 1981, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988 which included the death penalty years.
Houston received a two bowl ban in 1989 and 1990.

Thanks for the clarification, UJ. That’s really good info. I still believe (and that’s all I have is belief based on anecdotes) that Texas and A&M were as dirty as SMU but were just a lot smarter about how they did it. Sort of like Auburn is today.

If the stories of the payout to Tunsil are true, stepdad might be in a position to cause some problems for Tunsil and Ole Miss. I’d love to see Freeze and company outed on paying recruits.

I am sure Laremy picked up his own share of the dinner/drink tab and paid for part of the gas used in the yellow convertible. Jeez. I don’t have an issue with professional advice for athletes, but I am not buying the cleanliness of this arrangement; dirty, pure T filthy.
Can we get our boy Bo in Oxford’s take on this? He has been pretty outspoken lately.
