Weiszer is on the mother.
Aside from what’s noted there, the big news is that Ramsey is listed at first-team by his lonesome. Keith Marshall is third-team at tailback. McKenzie has grabbed one of the first-team receiving slots.
Thoughts?

UPDATE: Pay no attention to that depth chart my staff went to all that trouble to compile!
Come on August!

I have a hard time seeing Floyd at the Mike spot except in long yardage situations. I guess you have to have your best 11 on the field but that is typically a thicker thumping position. You have to be able to eat fullbacks and pulling guards.

I think all that really tells you is that Jeremy Pruitt intends to do his damnedest to get Carter, Floyd and Jenkins on the field together as much as he can.

Exactly. Hard to block all three with double teams and send out more than 2 receivers.

I’ve never really paid very close attention. Does Floyd have decent cover skills? Jenkins? Carter?

UN-FEAKING-BELIEVABLE!!! Lambert isn’t even 3rd string. I swear. This staff continues to defy logic. We freaking wasted a scholarship on a guy who can’t even be 3rd string…REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Slow down, hoss.
Lambert is due to arrive on campus today. That’s why he’s not on the depth chart yet.

My bad guys. I was trying (rather a feeble effort, apparently) to mock the doomsday-ers who continually fly off their rocker.
Man, Senator, you’re the last person who I thought wouldn’t realize that.

I recognized he was being facetious, but generally the problem is that you have to do ironic right. You don’t just say the opposite of what you mean; you plant something a little goofy to show you’re mocking. As I say–there are rules.

Saxon, I like your writing a lot. You’re one of three on The Vent that I will read your post regardless of the subject. With that being said, I’m the worst writer you’ll ever come across…EVER. With your ability, you can’t comprehend what it’s like to have my (lack of) writing ability.
Honestly, I thought the hyphenating and use of multiple exclamation points (which breaks man law IMHO) was enough to clue folks in…as I was saying…
I don’t know if you ever turkey hunt, but if you do/have, you should read Tenth Legion by Col. Tom Kelly. Reading that book reminded me of some of the things I’ve read by you about The Dawgs.

Yes, I’m not so sure about this. Isn’t this a picture of the media guide? That said, it reflects something, since it provides a depth chart with an eyebrow-raiser or two. Just not sure what it reflects.

Third ain’t that far down the list at the RB position. KM might be one of those players that are just game-day explosions…he’ll get his chance and I hope he rises to the occasion.
And what does it say about the depth at the position, that Keith wouldn’t be second at least? This is looking like a wonderful situation.

I cannot wait till the RB are let loose. As good as AJ seems to be (judging from G-Day) he is still buried down to 5th string.

Perhaps Galliard is athletic and long enough to get out there?

I think this is the best move. Kid needs to play this year to keep from getting rusty. Plus, he can take his time and take visits while deciding his next school. He’ll have three years to play three. I hope he stays in that area and plays in the Big 12 .

I know it’s all hind-sight now but…some random thoughts.
I felt good about Kublanow and hoped he would push for the position.
I honestly thought Reggie Davis would come out on top at one of the receiver positions…but understand why Isaiah got the knod.
Chris Mayes has had plenty of opportunity to take command of the Nose so I’m not surprised Atkins moved up.
I’m excited about seeing some new talent grow at DE…Brown, Barnett, Dawson and the Ledbetters (not the ones Jerry Clower talks about)
I mention in a previous post my visions of Floyd at ILB with Zo and Jenkins at OLB and possibly Smith at the Hybrid position. So I’m pumped to see some of that combination considered. Part of my vision was Natrez stepping up and taking over one of the ILB positions….we’ll see.
I noticed the walk-on Aaron Davis has maintained his start. I thought Wilkerson would have move above him by now.
I felt Parrish would command a start especially after last years ST’s play.
I thought Tramel Terry was going to be a safety.
Neither Shattle nor Kennar are developing as I expected.
I can’t wait to see our D in action and see how JP moves them around as they develop.

You can forget about Kennar D. He hasn’t even sniffed time on special teams. I hate to down a kid but this has been a wasted scholly for three years. Remember, this is the guy that Grantham passed on Steven Nelson for. Nelson was a GA kid who ended up at OR St. Made all-PAC 12 and was a third round pick, I believe. All that said, I’ll never be for running a kid off as long as he has a good attitude, practices hard, and is making academic progress. Hopefully Kennar leaves with a degree.

Will the light ever come on with Quayvon? He’s becoming the offensive version of Cornelius Washington – first guy off the bus but wonder what happens when he steps between the white lines.

Isaiah earned his position.
Floyd at ILB doesn’t have any edge setting resonsibilities, just chase ’em down. Makes sense. Plus – he won’t have to extend his arms/shoulders as much which is a good thing after surgery.

The lack of size on the D line concerns me. 260-270 lb tackles are going to have a hard time against running teams.

I think Pruitt still thinks he’s at FSU playing against those ACC finesse offenses. If he doesn’t find some 300 lb tackles soon, we will continue to struggle against the run.

I’d say Spring game 2016. We are going to be light on the D line again this season, nothing can be done about that.

3 of Bama’s top 5 DE’s are 27x pounds. And we had plenty of beef in 2012 when we ranked 80th in rush defense.
I think Pruitt probably knows what he’s doing.

270lb Defensive ENDS are fine, Defensive tackles not as much. I like to think he knows what he’s doing too, but his D Line got run over fairly regularly last season. In 2012, we had beef but no depth.

Last season’s poor run defense was as much, if not more, about failing to maintain gap integrity on the line and losing contain on the outside than it was about sheer mass. Better coaching and another year in Pruitt’s system should help with that. I hope so, anyway.
LikeLike
I definitely look for improvement too, at least I really hope to see it. Still, there’s not much substitute for size in a 3-4 for clogging up the run lanes. Some of the losing contain on the outside was due to opponents O line physically dominating our DL and taking them out of the play by forcing them inside.
We gave up 400 yards rushing three times last season. If we aren’t better at stopping the run this season, we will be looking at another disappointing year.

Agree, I am optimistic that CJP can use some razzle-dazzle stunts with the mobile attack force he has available and get some penetration to disrupt plays a few times a game. What I fear is the constant pounding of a power run team grinding out 1st downs when we need the ball back, or when they in short play yardage near the goal lines or 1st down marker. It is my biggest concern for this team, and it is what cost us all three of those losses last year. Fingers crossed that he will find the right combos but if I go on last year’s performance, it is exactly what I expect Bama and GT to attack, and Arky if we meet them in Atlanta. Hope I am wrong but where’s the beef? Man I hope those young DL guys are what everyone says they are and those new ILBs can step up and shed a block in tie to give up less than 4+ yards on dive plays.
LikeLike
Agree, Senator. That said, I think that whole “diet” thing in the run-up to last season was a bad idea. Some guys probably needed to shed a few pounds but making the entire D lighter?
LikeLike
If I remember some of the comments made by CMR/CJP…they said some players had to lighten up and some had to bulk up. They also mentioned that a few players had to burn fat and then build back quality mass. I may be wrong but I don’t think they want ‘light’ players but ‘in-shape’ players regardless of the weight. 300lbs is OK IF it is a lean 300lbs. I think it takes longer to build that quality mass than if they were just trying to put on weight.

Trenton T.& R. Smith will help shore up that Defensive Front Seven.
The 2 deep there looks solid to me. I am not as confident about the DBs,
especially when we are in the Nickel D. .However, Pruitt does know how to get the best out of his defensive players. he works with.
Again, QB & CENTER are still my biggest concerns. Not the Defense.
