Tell me this doesn’t sound like Irritated Richt:
I heard from way too many people at SEC Media Days last week about David Pollack’s proclamation on ESPN that he expects Greyson Lambert to be the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback when they open the season Sept. 5 against Louisiana-Monroe. It was relayed to me as if Pollack had some inside knowledge to that effect.
I didn’t hear Pollack’s comments myself and I couldn’t find a video, audio recording or a direct quote as to exactly what he said. I even reached out to the folks at ESPN for clarification, which they were unable to provide before this writing.
But I can tell you with no uncertainty — it’s a guess.
As coach Mark Richt said himself upon hearing Pollack’s thoughts, “he’s probably got a 33 percent chance of being right.”
“Does he know? I don’t know how he would know,” Richt said when asked about Pollack’s prediction on 680 The Fan’s “Chuck & Chernoff” radio show. “I think the reason David is doing what he’s doing is he’s never had a problem just spewing stuff out. So we’ll see. … If it turns out to be Greyson I’m sure he’ll be pounding his chest about it.”
Mark Richt dissing one of the Davids? I think Uncle Verne’s just been handed his first talking point for the Georgia-Vanderbilt broadcast.
I have a simple rule: Three time, first team, All-Americans can say whatever the hell they want. Its a very short but equally distinguished list.

They certainly can…but that doesn’t make them right or anything else of the sort. Heck, my cardiologist brother harbors a similar attitude regarding almost everything, including areas of my specialty, but I’m certainly not going to kowtow to him just because.

Agreed. I won’t say it’s true but I also won’t question his right to say it or demean his conclusion. He may well be entirely FOS here. And good for him.
If he wants to say: fire cmr today! My response is: Ok, David thanks for that. Any other thoughts?
If any former players who were not 3x first team all-Americans said something out of line would not be so quick to give a pass. I think it’s Herschel and David right? That’s the only two. Say whatever man. You deserve it.
Herschel wants to say he has multiple personalities, then great. I love all of ’em. Especially the one that carried the ball.

David’s on TV now. He gets paid to say shit, even if it’s all made up and flagellant.

What if it is not true? Or if he doesn’t know what he hell is talking about?

Pollack is paid to give out comments on TV. I actually saw it, and he gave an opinion…claimed he had talked to someone..but did not say who. In the same segment, some other dude was talking about how much better the LSU back is than Chubb…Pollack thought he was crazy for that thought too.

“he’s never had a problem just spewing things out.” Sounds as though Richt may have had some experience with Pollock’s loquacious tendencies prior to this week. 🙂

Makes me wonder if Richt has taken issue with some previous spewing by Pollock…that is, if I read the tone of that reply correctly.

I heard the interview on 680. Richt didn’t sound irritated. Chip Towers may want to present it in such a way, but he just sounded amused and coy more than anything.

I was going to say the same thing. He wasn’t annoyed with Pollack…at least he didn’t sound that way…it wasn’t a “His name is Pollack, Jill Arrington” type response, that’s for sure… He did have some annoyance with the question…especially since Chernoff started by saying, “I’m not going to ask you about your starting QB….” and then went right into “I’m going to ask you about what David Pollack said about your starting quarterback”.
Radio hosts are clever.
(It was also towards 6:00 if I’m remembering right…he had to be tired of it)

Too bad hevil Richt didn’t ask Matt, “Are you asking who our starting quarterback is going to be, or are you saying other people are saying who our starting quarterback is going to be?” then drop the mic and walk off the stage….

Has Lambert even taken a practice snap at UGA yet? Dude must have MAD skills to be named starter without taking a freaking snap!

If he had transferred to Bama he would have Heisman talk instead of “starter” talk.

Honest question, if Lambert is actually competing for the starting spot, do we have serious problems at QB? I know he didn’t havegood coaching at UVA but he looked really bad.

I like to think (and pray) that the coaching staff is just being coy about the starter so teams will have less of a clue who to focus on. I don’t like Bellicheat worth 2 shits but I like how he games the injury report and press conferences for his gain.

I have a friend who is a Virginia alumni and avid fan. His opinion is that Lambert will never rise above third string at UGA.

The coaches are claiming that our QB options are fine, but one hasn’t elevated above the others yet. With our line and RBs, I don’t know that it’s a serious problem.

I don’t care what David says, the Senator who watched him play for Virginny isn’t impressed.
If Lambert had just been here for the G game……….

I listened to that interview live. CMR was definitely not upset with DP47. He was laughing about it and chuckling about how David likes to talk, but then went on to talk about how great of a person he is. He did call his bluff, but not in a ticked off manner.

I feel certain that the staff knows who the starter will be (Lambert). Are they concerned that Ramsey or Bauta will bolt by naming Lambert the starter? Who knows. I am just ready for the season to start. GATA.

It’s ironic that the stunt cmr pulled in Bristol behind Freeze is the most Pollack-like thing cmr has probably ever done.

CMR must be unaware that DP played pop warner with David Greene.
