When you’re rebranding, you have to sweat the small stuff, too.

Evidently the brain trust at the University of Texas’ athletic department has forced an eight-year old fan message board to drop “Bevo” from its website name.

Steve Patterson is something else, ain’t he?

For as school with all the distinguished alums and resources that Texas has, how long will they tolerate this train wreck? Love ’em or hate ’em, they aren’t used to being a laughing stock but with Patterson they seem to have a news story a week that has to make them cringe. In the meantime, it is still hard to find much positive for them on the athletic front. I think Charlie Strong is going to make them a factor again but it doesn’t look like it will be 2015. But if they do upset someone, let it be the Irish.

That reminds me of an administration I used to know.

When I first read this, I took “eight-year old fan message board” to be a fan message board for eight year olds for a second. The next thing you know, they’ll be banning birthday cakes with the U. of Texas logo on them.

They will just want a percent of the Birthday money that Grandma puts in that envelope.
A message board that has been around for 8 yrs is probably slightly popular with at least a small section of the fan base, way to make them happy and support the fans.

You’re thinking of the AJC comments section, friend.

When I clicked the link to that message board, ironically the advertisement at the top was a google ad for trademarking your brand…

I’m honestly surprised Georgia has allowed UGASPORTS.com to use that name all these years. Seems the university could make an easy argument that it could be confused with an official UGA sports site.

The word “Bevo” is trademarked by UT. If they allow it to be used then they forfeit the trademark. I guess they could have asked the site to pay them some nominal amount each year to use the word, but then I am sure everyone would be slamming them over that too.
