Hey, it wouldn’t be a normal August without some member of the punditocracy placing Mark Richt on a preseason hot seat list, would it?

“... Shoot, why does anybody who’s ever won something do it again? Because it’s cool. So, let’s go do it again. Let’s see if we’ve got what it takes.” -- Stetson Bennett, The Athletic, 3/22/22
The only way to stay off of the ‘hot seat’ is to meet or exceed expectations. Even if those expectations are misguided. If a coach wins 3 NCs out of four but the fans think he should have won the 4th…
Right now the expectations for the Dawgs is banked on a perceived weak SEC east and newly found administrative support (not to mention great coaching assistants and high recruiting rankings). Fans expect championships at this opportunistic time.

You are correct, fanatics expect championships. Normal folk want to be entertained.

He’s in the same category as The Hat. Hmmm. Guess he had to fill some column inches.

The recurring theme in these CMR and hot seat articles is that IF this year is bad he will be on the hot seat, not that he is currently on the hot seat. That would be true for the majority of head coaches. I think I will stop reading these articles until I feel that he is actually on the seat.

Both LSU and UGA have a small segment of fans who are just unhappy by nature but Miles seems to have never had some of the Bengal fans in his camp and I have never understood why. Interestingly, UGA has a great chance of winning the East/SEC, and I think LSU is is in the group of 3/4 with the best chance of winning the West. Doing so would remove either from any rational hot seat list but it still will not satisfy those who just don’t want them to be their coach. It isn’t about coaching for them, it is about them being right after all their years of whining.

Great point. Thick skin is definitely a requirement to coach at this level, and that’s when you win.

I have always enjoyed Miles. The way he carried himself and approached CMR post his last visit to the Classic City showed a lot of class.

What I got is Richt is on the hot seat because he doesn’t have a buyout. If we analyze this we are the dumb ones.
