Ix-nay on the ay-pray to ay-play.

See?  This wasn’t that hard.

“The local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes provides optional chaplain services for student-athletes that wish to participate,” McGarity said in a brief statement issued Friday afternoon. “Neither the University nor the Athletic Association finances these activities, and they are completely voluntary for the student-athletes.”

That’s all you had to say, athletic director.  (Publicly, at least.)

We’re done here.

Agreed. The freedom from religion people won’t stop. The funny thing is they probably are more totalitarian in their evangelism than actual evangelicals.
See, evangelicals understand that a Christian should speak to who Christ is and what he’s done, but only God can change a person’s heart. If you try and force it, you are way outside of your role. Yet Freedom From Religion wants to force everyone to shut up and sit down about one’s personal beliefs. Really disappointing that such a movement has developed in 21st century America.
If you want to keep your rights, you have to be diligent. It was nice that most common sense people realized this was a witch hunt. Freedom from religion will regroup and be back.

As a poster mentioned a couple of days ago, there is traditional, laissez faire atheism and then there is a relatively new, hard-line, militant atheism. And within their circles, there’s a lot of argument about it. Folks like Richard Dawkins and Bill Maher who attack all forms of religion are doing no service to “the cause,” if you can call it a cause. It gets under people’s skin just as much as the street-corner preachers on the bridge at game time. This particular militant group could start by getting its facts right and recognizing who is and isn’t a chaplain. By the way, the guy with the cross and the listening ear is a chaplain. The guy in the little hobo suit and the Hitler moustache is a Chaplin.

The UGAAA actually doing something right on the PR front? Color me pleasantly surprised!

This whole thing was just an alarmist farce perpetuated by a group with its own (not constitutionally supported) agenda. All the constitution says is that the government can’t pass any laws establishing a state religion, nor compel any citizen to practice religion. The idea that you can or should hermetically seal the state from any religion is silly and just a bit naive.

It’s good to know that the ole “you can’t prove a negative” argument has been thrown out.by the guardian’s of “facts” and “logic”.

Next issue: When is Greg McGarity going to address March Richt’s belief that the moon is green cheese?

McGarity’s been AD for 5 years and NOT ONCE has he given a statement about March Richt’s belief that the moon is green cheese.

It’s time he gets out in front of this issue and confirms that CMR is not teaching our players that the moon is green cheese. .

Who in the hell was that outfit anyway and why should I care what they say? Trust me, they will be offended no matter what the AD says. They make their living being offended. Screw them and the camel they rode into Athens on.

Yes. Reprogramming of sensor nodes is an essential requirement for long-lived Athletic Director careers because software functionality has to be changed over time. He will be reprogrammed soon.

I have no issue with the voluntary aspect, and think this was handled correctly. I just don’t want to hear about a situation like Foster had at UTK, where he was made to feel like he had an attitude problem if he exercised his option to not attend Sunday service because it was a ‘team-building outing.’

I think we’re good here, and I appreciate the way McG said that.

Yes, because feeling uncomfortable and other microaggressions are a sure sign of the jack-booted fascists lurking in plain sight.

Micro aggressions. Oh good grief. Seems like it would be a better use of time to be concerned with actual aggressions and things that warrant the hand wringing dedicated to someone violating political correctness. How about using some of this same energy on the real evils loose in the world like, I don’t know, pedophilia, child abuse, human trafficking, etc. We don’t seem to care much about those because they havent been ear marked by the arbiters of the cause as worthy issues. Too busy freaking out over the possibility of somebody reading somebody else a Bible verse somewhere. Of all the things you guys could be against, you choose things like this. And don’t come at me with “none of that has anything to do with UGA football.” That’s only relavent when you guys decide that it is. And let me head another one off, why do I keep reading and commenting? Because when football is what is being discussed this blog is great. And when we veer off into this sort of thing, somebody has to call you on your bullshit.

Exactly Shane. Why do we even care what that little brownie troop that doesn’t have anything better to do than annoy people thinks or is offended by? That’s the thing about these people, they have no power. If more people would tell the, to pee up a rope instead of acting afraid of them they would fade back into the shadows. And we are most definitely not done here. It will be so,etching else soon enough. Because these kinds of people are miserable so they are always looking for ways to find some company. Livid and let live is too difficult for them to grasp. The nonsense of, “oh they might be forcing this one the players.” Was just that. If you truly believed that, not only are looking and hoping to find something, your parents are related

Funny all of the commentators on this blog that claim being offended is so insignificant. What if Muslim Clerics or Satanists wanted to have access to the football team for some potential conversions? Would you be okay with it? Would you be offended?

As far as the Satanists, the team plays in Jacksonville every year and in Columbia every other year. Does that count?

If Georgia hires a coach who has a brother in law that’s not paid or employed by UGA & is an evangelical Satanist, I’ll find another team to pull for. If he’s an evangelical Muslim, I’ll look at what brand of Islam he promotes and decide based on that.

What I won’t do is bitch & moan how this must end and it violates separation of church & state.

If you don’t like CMR, stop watching. It’s not difficult.
