Richt said "Walking away from practice, I feel like I know less than I did going in."

Oh, and just for funsies…
Richt on QBs: "I will give you some stats. Nick Robinson with the threes went 4-for-4. That’s it. No more stats.”

Hope that means someone did unexpectedly well not that the leader in the race did poorly. I’m afraid it’s the latter.

Coach Richt would be an excellent GTP troll.

Could we sum some of the QB sucking up to the DBs and LBs being better at coverage under Pruitt Year 2?

I wouldn’t be so quick to summarize the quarterbacks as sucking.

Evil Richt Belichiking about it certainly doesn’t suck though.

Could it just be CMR having a little sport with the rest of the world? Maybe the Boca streak in him isn’t completely erased.

I don’t know whether to be pissed at Richt or want to give him a high five. He does seem like he is just playing games with the media at this point.

I think it was planned out in advance to not give away anything until either the press conference of the first week, or until game day, or maybe even Vandy week. And if so, they’re not deviating since no one has been able to separate themselves so clearly that it leaks out.
Isn’t Bama basically doing the same thing now?

Definitely a high-five.
That full-transparency policy was damaging the program. Good riddance.

I seriously don’t think CMR is playing games or even being sly about knowing who will play QB. My $.02 is that the QBs competing are just so equal (whether that be sucking or impressing) that CMR can’t or doesn’t want to make a decision at this time. He is looking for a series of events that will separate one from the others. CMR wants to see a high enough level of play, on a consistent enough level for a long enough period of time to get that warm and fuzzy feeling about who to give the job. Again it’s JMHO.

Right did say they haven’t been horrible. But they want more consistency. I’d say at worst we’re looking at a cumulative Joe Cox.
LikeLike
The good news on that end is that Joe really didn’t have the kind of consistency from his Oline and running backs that these guys will get this year. Also didn’t have a defense like these guys will have either.

Joe Cox could win the SEC with the talent on this team.

Richt, damn this spell check.

So UGA needs to run the ball 90% of the time and throw some high percentage short pass routes the rest. Seemed to work for Bear all those years and UGA is as deep in the running game as anyone in the nation right now. Surely out of those three QBs there is one serviceable enough to do this…
Didn’t The Senator post an article a few days back about how teams aren’t being taught to stop the run as much anymore because of the proliferation of the spread attack? That would play into a running teams hands one would think.

That’ll work until we play Florida and Bammer D’s and if we just want to win 10 games and play in the Belk Bowl again. I’d like to think otherwise but it didn’t work out last season.

You have to play the hand your dealt. I don’t think it’s the end of the world if we don’t have an Aaron Murray or Matt Stafford behind the line with the RBs UGA has this year. Of course it would be better if they had a great QB but there are plenty of ways to move the ball with the amount of talent that is still on the field. Schotty will earn his keep this year…

Anyone else hear scuttlebutt that Richt wants Brice and Schotty wants Lambert?

If this is true, then Richt needs to make the decision because he’s the one that’s going to have to live with it. He wants as much film and data as possible to make that decision.
This thing is going to go into next week as the team starts its preparations for ULM. I’m not sure whether this increases or decreases my confidence in the passing offense.

I doubt that is true, and especially that any fans would get access to that knowledge. But there is a simple solution, we have a couple of soft opponents early so both get enough plays to get more film in a live setting. What I was surprised about yesterday was not naming who was third, I must have misunderstood but going into the scrimmage I thought someone said we would know who the top 2 were. Must really be a close call of strengths and weaknesses between them.
I am not concerned about us having someone who can lead us, we have some talent to choose from, but simply the focus with number of reps divided by three, rather than two, requires that this should be solved pretty quickly. Our situation does seem better than what I have read about Bama and LSU’s QB struggles but I feel Richt is right about consistency being the critical dividing point that we must find. Maybe by mid-week we will get the top 2. If not, surprise us on September 5. we can take it.

LSU and Alabama have experienced separation in their respective QB competitions, as have South Carolina and Florida.
LSU: Brandon Harris
Alabama: Alec Morris
Florida: Treon Harris
South Carolina: Connor Mitch

Don’t know where you’re getting your Florida info, as McElwain says he’s playing two QBs in the opener.

I don’t have a link, but I am hearing Harris from my Florida friends so take it with a grain of salt.
They are saying both will play against New Mexico State and McElwain wants to to use Will Grier more once his offensive line develops.
They are saying the reality of his line situation dictates the use of the more-mobile Harris against SEC competition.
