“And Georgia fans, don’t be turds. Enjoy this. Soak it up. It’s awesome. If you don’t win this year, it’s still not a failure. It’s a heck of a run. Back-to-back in the Playoff era hasn’t been done. So, to ask for a third I feel like it’s gluttonous. I feel like it’s not OK. But we’ll be in the mix.”-- David Pollack, On3.com, 5/9/23
When will football analysts finally admit that they don’t have any idea about what they are talking about? What annoys me even more than their inability to say what team is good and what team is bad, they then decide, before having watched one of those teams play, that they can tell the future by placing teams in a poll, not based on who is the best team, but based on their predictions about how the season will play out. Then on top of that they punish teams for losing to a degree that the rankings make no sense whatsoever. Does anybody think there are 11 teams that could beat Alabama? If so, please pass those drugs you are on. I agree that college football is a better spectator sport than the nfl, but when it comes to bullshit college football reigns supreme. At least in the nfl you know that everything will be decided on the field and opinions mean zero. In college football the opinions are Grade A bullshit AND they actually matter.

I think there are at least 3 on Bama’s schedule that can beat them. 4 if they get to a decent bowl.

Me, too. If Bama is a 3 or 4 loss team, they’ll lose their minds.

Are they the 12th best team in America? That is the beginning and end of my point. These idiots will say that they don’t “deserve” to be in the top 10. WTF does deserve have to do with rankings? If you think no. 12 would beat no. 9 straight up then something is wrong with your rankings. More the the point I see UCLA and Clemson ahead of Alabama. Would anybody, including the pollsters, bet a dime on Clemson or UCLA even if they were the home team vs. Alabama? In short, the rankings are stupid. The fact that I have to read that the two best teams in the country are in Columbus and Lansing is fucking ridiculous.

You got it all exactly right, there Derek..it’s the most FUBAR thing imaginable.
Most of these experts are saying what they hope will happen..and think if they can convince the masses that they know of what they speak, that it will somehow become true. In short..they’re stupid.
Now comes Jabari Greer talking and full of himself to the point that I want him to shut up and let the other know-nothings talk. Somehow, the dumbest one gets to talk the most.

Wasn’t Miss State ranked #1 at some point last year? That is bullshit a plenty to me. But it is real too. We saw how much the talking heads swayed opinion thanks to the Herbstreit Doctrine. Now the playoff committee is suddenly going to be immune from hearing the constant droning on about how great OSU is all season–even though they play 2 decent teams!? Its not going to get better…and they (talking heads and committee) will make sure the SEC never has 2 playoff spots–no matter how deserving the teams are–or more to the point, no matter how undeserving a B1G champion is.

I always thought that the reason the playoff was created was to ensure that we’d never have two in it. The reasons: 1) you can’t put the team in that lost the SECCG. 2) you can’t put in a division runner up over a conference champion. The only way that we’ll ever get two is if 3 loss teams win 3 conference titles AND the SECCG runner-up was undefeated before the game.

Let’s not get all stupid. Alabama is going to hurt some teams. I don’t think U Miss. is better than Bama. They won though. For those of you that thinks Bama looses 3-5, come on right now and predict it. I think we beat Bama, but I don’t think that anyone other than LSU does.

Damn, I sound like a sweat bee, Loose=lose.

Well, if we do (twice) and LSU does, then that’s squarely between 3-5 losses. Sounds like you believe it, even without an LSU loss. Right?

I said 3, sticking to it….that would put them in a winnable bowl…

Derek, that bullshit from ESPN won’t slow down until we go to 8 teams. Many more will be involved in deciding the best teams and drown their indifferences out.

How in the world can one game change who Alabama was/is? Bama is still Bama, and Saban is still Saban.

Actually… there may be more than 11 teams that could beat this year’s Alabama team. Its not hard when they turn it over 5 times either.

I think we have an AP voter in our midst.

Just stupid logic. I HATE Alabama. Do you really think they are EVER going to turn it over 5 times in a game again?

and there were two times in the 4th quarter that I thought that Ole Miss was going to lose even though they were +5 in TO’s. That tells me that Alabama is pretty damn good to have a chance in the fourth -5. That ain’t the 12th best team in country coming in on Oct. 3rd. That’s a Top 5 team whatever their record is. Whoever the 12th best team is, I wouldn’t be nearly as worried about as I am about who is actually showing up.

Yep. Add that to the mix.
Derek, there are many who see it that way and that’s not over-touting an opponent.
Hasn’t anyone viewed this as Dawgpolling such that they won’t get back in the Top 10 before we play them?

Guess they weren’t aware Gus had loaned his rabbits foot to Hugh Freeze. Would have changed their prediction I’m sure.

If Hugh hadn’t stole it, Ole Miss and ‘Bama would both be in completely different lights and circumstances today.
Better hold on to it tight, Hugh, because it was the biggest factor in your win in Tuskerlooser. As Larry would say., “Old Lady Luck really smiled on you the other night”. But she’s a fickle bitch.

Isn’t Orstendorf the guy who dogged on Gurley and asked why he was getting so much Heisman love instead of Cameron Artis-Payne?

Yuppppppp, that’s the guy. Seems old Orstendork has had this type of Auburn regret before.

Dear Mr. Orstendork,
You must have a mouse in your pocket.
Most people weren’t that gullible. Go back and read GTP’s spring and summer threads and you will see that almost everyone that posts here, including the post-master….never bought that bullshit. This goes right back to what I posted earlier..most of you pundits (you’re certainly not experts) say what you hope will happen and state it as a mindful and studied prediction…and expect people to buy it. Most don’t. Most of the people who post on this blog are pretty cfb savvy.
Maybe you should read GTP every day!

I never did understand the love. They weren’t great last year, losing to the last 4 decent teams they played last season, and should be 1-2 or 0-3 this year. I guess it was all the irrational exuberance over Agent Muschamp.
LikeLike
They forgot that the DCs Muschamp had at UF were better than he was as a DC. Plus Muschamp hadn’t directly coached a defense in the SEC in several years. Also we’re starting to see some RG effects in their front 7: highly rated recruits not quite performing at the level you’d think. Yeah, I remember a good bit of that.

As Georgia fans, we should all encourage the punditocracy to hype AU every year, as that’s the surest way to guarantee a mediocre (at best) season on the plains.
But on a analytic level, I never understood all the AU love in the first place.

Thank you. I’ve been screaming that since sec media days. Never understood the lovefest.

All the Auburn love was based exclusively on the Muschamp hire, as if he is some short fused sorcerer who could magically turn a defense that was a giant bowl of ass last season and turn it into a nationally ranked unit overnight. Which leads me to believe sports journalists are not really watching the teams they write about

Well, Boom is short fused Irish, but obviously no sorcerer. I think it was the combo of believing Malzahn was actually an offensive genius, even when JJ’s skill set dd not match his offensive scheme, and that Boom was a defensive genius. Add in the loss of a QB who did match Gus’ offense, and you have three strikes before you began. And that is an Auburn team that is now 3-5 in it’s last eight games …….and the three wins came over Samford, 0-3 Louisville, and an overtime win over FSC Jax State which had required a flurry of 14 points from AU in the last 2 minutes.
No, they do watch those teams, because they are fans of that team, they just don’t watch the others or do any research. This one probably took down every word Gus and/or the SID told him and went with it. In otherwords, he is a mouthpiece for AU propaganda and a cheerleader.

Is this the same media types that picked Bama to win the West and Auburn to win the SECC? ……Never did quite understand that.

If Auburn and Bama become irrelevant in the SEC this year does that mean we can get rid of Finebaum? I mean, honestly, the man contributes so little insight and worthwhile analysis to conversations it is incredible people tune in to him. He is relevant because he’s associated with Alabama football. I talk to so very few SEC (non-Alabama) fans that care for him.

I listen to neuheisel’s or zarzour on XM for intelligent football analysis. Finebaum isn’t the worst source of sheer afternoon comedy/entertainment though. Esp after a Bammer/Barner loss

I like how he says this team is nothing like 2013 Auburn. 2013 Auburn barely won a couple of games against mediocre teams and got hammered by LSU to this point in the season. 2015 Auburn looks a lot like 2013 Auburn, actually. I wouldn’t bet on them rolling an ungodly string of sevens this time around, though.
