“We know we are coaching the right guys. They just need more work.”

With Saturday’s game, Georgia has now played a whopping 21 true freshmen this season.

Gosh, think Richt’s changed his roster management philosophy much?

Sort of off topic, but I wonder if all this change is what lead Bobo to take the CSU job. I’m not saying he is against playing freshman or the roster management, but maybe he was no longer Richt’s right hand man.

I wonder why so many folks are puzzled why Bobo took the CSU job? Its a head coaching job at an FBS school. Not sure why this is surprising. Hell, the head coach at Florida did the same thing a few years ago. It is a decent job and a stepping stone. I don’t think it had one iota of anything to do with Pruitt or anyone else at Georgia.

Agreed…plus that is a great area of the Country…no brainer.

        • Hmmm…great part of the country–yes. Stepping stone HC gig-for more money–yes. Would Bobo have stayed for less–absolutely. Would McGarrity pony up at the time–not a chance. Did that huge loss instigate a sea change in attitude towards football–you betcha.

          • Lamont, I’m not sure Bobo would have stayed for less money. I think Richt told him he was ready to go take over his own program.

I also think you’re right that the loss started the sea change in the administration’s commitment to the football program.

I don’t think Bobo was actively looking in previous years. I do remember him talking to VT, but that’s it.

Not impressed. Come talk to me when 22 true freshmen have played. 😉

Absolutely. And we are building depth now…for this year. Several of the defensive series this year have had mostly freshmen on the field together. This experience/depth will be valuable when playing teams like Bama that are serious about playing the full 60 minutes. I’m looking forward to having fresh players on the field in the 4th quarter against Bama.

Off topic here: I just did my Fabris Invitational picks and we are favored by 60.5 points Saturday. Also, Auburn is favored over Mississippi State. Interesting.

I welcome this change, nothing instructs and motivates like game time. Without knowing how well the guys are practicing, etc I would actually like to see a lot more of this. Bauta, for example. He was in the running all camp and hasn’t sniffed the field three games in. Thompson is only getting garbage time. Roquan, etc…

Bauta’s been in on special teams and should get some QB action this weekend. He’s also contributing in getting the plays in.

If Bauta was really in the competition for that long and by many accounts working harder than most, I would like to see him do more than signal plays and hold for PATs and FGs. Let’s say he does lead a drive or two against Southern. When does he next see the field, against GA Southern in November? We waxed ULM and USCe, I would have liked to see him get a drive at least in both games.

Having Ramsey and Bauta play more is not only about rewarding them, it’s about having a backup ready to go in the case of injury. And nothing does that better than game reps.

Not to mention, we’re going to have a logjam at QB again for the next couple years if the commits make it to campus. If Ramsey doesn’t get enough snaps this year, what do you think the chances are he transfers? I have no idea what’s going on in his head, but I’d say the risk is high with Eason coming in. We’ll have Lambert, Eason, Bauta, and Nick Robinson.

I think Pruitt has a lot to do with this.

Bingo! My belief is that this is 99% Pruitt with Richt giving the final approval of 1%. We have all discussed the annual bed wetting game or 2 by the Dawgs in the past far too much this offseason, but my hope is that Pruitt and Schotty are strong enough leaders to override that this year.

As expected, a chance to be negative when things are going very well for most, and along comes Mr. Misery. Just a pot stirrer, and while UGA may be your team, you are simply not a fan. You diss the team in the down moments and attempt to undermine it when things are going well. You may wear red and black occasionally, but you are pathetic (yes, that is an opinion.) Must be a joy to be around on Saturdays, well, anytime actually. It doesn’t matter things are good, bad, trending up, or down, your message is the same. Just change your name to UGA SUX, it would be more appropriate for your feelings because there is nothing skeptical at all about your positions, they never change…you are truly committed against.

Football has changed dramatically over the past several years, every team is playing more freshmen, everyone…and no other has Schotty or Pruitt to make that decision. Numbers are now being reported publicly for the past 2-3 years, perhaps as a message to recruits, maybe because of the number of three and done athletes, could even be because of the hurry up offenses and more plays for the two deep guys, who knows? Butch Jones made that his anthem last season. But it is certainly not unique to UGA in 2015, and neither Schotty or Pruitt would hesitate to tell you who makes the final decisions for UGA football. In fact, both have stated they are in Athens because of Richt, not because of uninformed, negative people like a skeptic and his ilk.

Just wish CMR would piss you off enough to make you find a new team to throw your anchor lasso around. I doubt many/any would tolerate you for long. I am sure many here would miss you as long as it takes water to fill the hole when I remove my thumb from a bowl, at least 85% anyway.

Sic him, Mac! The Welching ahole still hasn’t sent the $10 he admitted losing on the FU game over 3yrs ago. He is reminded every year and has not sent the money to Bobo as asked. You didn’t know crap then and you probably don’t know why.

Besides not being a fan (and can’t even cleverly disguise himself as one), he lies about who he is before coming back to insert something mundane and obtuse. Even claiming family. How’s your “son”, Skep? You probably dress him in orange every morning.

And stay away from the Pope!

I think people are over-thinking this. It’s not as though there was some stated plan to play 22 true Fr. The fact of the matter is that so many true freshmen being on the 2-deep is NOT a good thing. Its simply a matter of a talented recruiting class filling in some needs created by previous recruiting misses, departures etc. You want to play true freshman that deserve it but playing this many, except in garbage time, is actually not ideal. It does however bode well for the future.

I suppose ideally we would have no injuries, no misses, no departures, and have 9 seniors on the field at any given time. Right. Have another beer. We’re 3-0, ranked 6th, just dropped 52 on Spurrier, and playing all these freshmen is absolutely killing us!

You are aware that the majority of these freshmen are in on special teams and/or garbage time, right?

There are only 4-5 playing legitimate snaps. Godwin, Harris, McGraw / Abrams…I’m forgetting one more

Marshall, & Rome get some quality playing time. They may be needed as the
    season progresses. Trenton Also.

This has Rodney Garner’s fingerprints all over it…umm, ok, what I mean is that while Maclover correctly identifies the trend is common all over CFB, we would never be above the curve with RG still here. Has Pruitt played a role? Certainly. Has Garner’s absence played a role? Don’t underestimate his absence contributing to the change in philosophy.

I’m with you, Hahira. When Garner was here the 1st DL stayed in the whole game. As a result they were always gassed come 4th qtr crunch time and we never developed depth.

  12. We are scary thin at safety. 2 guys with experience and the rest are true freshmen, most of whom weren’t the most highly recruited. I guess you can say the same for the entire secondary. Pruitt can prove his worth with the secondary alone. Anyone know the status of McGraw? I heard knee but not how severe.

    • Seems like I have read that they cross train the secondary. I wouldn’t be surprised if some LBs have been taking reps at safety (not invoking Grantham here). After watching last year’s piece meal secondary succeed, I trust Pruitt. More experience and more talent coming in…how do you doubt it?

What’s the word on Tramel Terry? Didn’t he come in with high expectations, possibly as a receiver, but got moved to the secondary. I haven’t heard a peep about him. Is he injured?

    • He plays on most special teams. His hit caused the fumble on the kickoff. He has also played some backup defensive back. He’s the poster child for not playing in those meaningless postseason high school all-star games.
