Your morning gallows humor

This message board wrap up of the Georgia-South Carolina game is classic.

And this, sad to say, is spot on.

You know, 12 years removed from watching Lou Holtz run an offense centered around a linebacker playing QB and running the QB draw, I’m amazed that we’ve come full circle. We’re a veer offense team now.

A Spurrier coached team, running what amounts to a single wing.

Damnedest thing.

It’s definitely not what they thought they were signing up for, that’s for sure.

    “SPECIAL TEAMS
    Overall: D
We allowed a team to kick off to us, run down, catch the ball, and run it into our endzone. Without us touching it. That, theoretically, is not possible.”

I know this was negated by being offsides…but this did make me laugh.

That was the gem of the post. I laughed hard, but empathetically as a survivor of the Goff/Donnan years.

I still have nightmares about Goff taking 215 pound linebackers putting 10 pounds on them and sticking them on the D-line. To their credit they gave it all they had god bless all of them. Talk about the dark ages wooo shit we were there. All of us who lived through that see Ga football differently then anyone else.

I wonder if Orth was in contact with Quincy Carter’s bookie on Saturday.

The refs took away what would’ve been my favorite Mark Richt moment ever, and maybe best Bulldog memory ever.

It wasn’t the first time and it likely won’t be the last. It seems that every time the Dawgs make a truly spectacular play the refs take it away with a ticky-tacky penalty. It has happened so many times in the last 7 years that it cannot be an accident or coincidence.

Yep, basically every onsides kick we have recovered the last several years has been overturned.

I make it a point to watch kickoffs. It is very hard to tell if a team is offsides, but if you play it back, most teams are offsides on most kickoffs.
It’s called very rarely and selectively..the selection process is this..Is the team wearing red? If so, do they have a G on their helmets? If so, throw the flag.
It was a sympathy call for Spurrier. It was wrong. I don’t remember any sympathy being showed to UGA when they were getting gored.
At Vandy, the refs felt like it was their job to “even-up” the talent gap by allowing them to hold. It’s always something with the SEC officials.
I still say each coach should be able to ban up to two officials from doing their games for a year. If more than two coaches ban an official,he’s fired.

I can imagine that this is what happenes…Georgia gives the ref a heads-up that they are going to pooch (or onside) it. This is advised as a good idea so the refs will be aware to be watching esp. close to how far the ball travels, who touched/ recovered it, etc.
The SEC refs take it as an invitation to be able to draw some attention to themselves by throwing a seldom seen flag…they watch the line like a hawk. If I were CMR, I would never give them a heads-up about anything not required. I don’t think it’s required on a kickoff.
The SEC officials have clearly shown that they will screw Georgia at every opportunity. Finding a way to bring them to honesty would be the last big step to building a championship dynasty at Georgia.
I really, really, really, worry about Georgia getting the shaft at Knoxville in a few weeks. The refs really play up to that crowd. Ask Bowling Green.

I couldn’t understand why the offsides flag was lying in the middle of the field on the 50 yd. line. Did anybody see one on the 35, either sideline?

don’t know about who threw the flag, but the replay clearly showed we had a guy offsides. No idea if it made even a tiny difference in the recovery, but offsides is offsides.

If they go 4-8 or 5-7, I have trouble seeing how they don’t go into the wilderness for YEARS. What kid is coming to play for a 70 year old with one foot out the door on a sinking ship? They haven’t cracked the Top 15 in recruiting since 2009. Dark days ahead for the Gamecocks.

    Not that I’m complaining.

They got more than they even deserved out of Spurrier:

Multiple 11-2 seasons, a recruiting surge, and beating Georgia regularly. But the Old Rooster is tired. It appears that South Carolina is waking up from a long, sweet dream. A long and arduous uphill climb awaits.

    To quote the Boss:

Everything dies, baby, that’s a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back

They also got upgraded facilities and recognized as a SEC program other than Kentucky with hotter weather. SCAR got its money’s worth with Spurrier

Personally, I don’t see it as sad that Spurrier is running a single wing offense OR the Veer or even a triple option. I find it a real comeuppance to an ass who for years felt he could take mediocre QB talent and run his system and beat virtually everyone. His arrogance is catching up with him. Now he sees his brilliant schemes and play calling don’t trump talent. I’m happy to see him flounder. Hate the asshat.

I’ve lived in SC my whole life and know a little chicken history. They’ve ALLWAYS had the most delusional fanbase in college football, hands down, no comparison! Their football program has sucked since they started in 1892 with the exception of a FEW fluke seasons……ie 1984 and their little 3 year run from 2011-2013. Both Georgia and Clemson have owned them throughout their pitiful history and as recent as 1981 they’ve lost to the likes of Pacific, Furman, and the mighty Citadel. They are now stuck where they’ve been for a MAJORITY of their sad 123 seasons. In 1992 they put out a book and tape on the first 100 years of gamecock football. If you open the book its completely blank and if you watch the tape there is NOTHING on it. LMAO. Such a sweet win this past Saturday. Just wish we would have hung 60 or 70 points on those losers instead of 52. LOL GATA JYD!!!!!!

Well, it would have been 59 except for the cheatin’ SEC refs throwing a flag on the kick-off that the Dawgs recovered and ran in for a TD.

Fairly certain (but may be wrong) that you can’t advance a recovered kickoff. Would like to have given Marshall a chance to score again.
