A stat that will make you smile

Even if you don’t care very much about advanced stats, there’s one thing Bill highlights about his Georgia stats you ought to like.

Power success rate?  What’s that?

Power Success Rate

As used in Football Outsiders’ pro line stats, this is the percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down or touchdown. Also includes runs on first-and-goal or second-and-goal from the two-yard line or closer.

In other words, every time Georgia has run the ball to pick up a needed third-and-short or a fourth-and-short conversion, it has.  Every. Time.

You can win a lot of games doing that, I think.

If I say we haven’t played anyone yet, will the trolls give it a rest? 😉

That’s an amazing stat. Let’s keep it going.

That is one crazy good stat. Even better that it really means something tangible. It shows that you are getting the job done when it counts. A team that can do that will not lose very often.

I’m going to stop reading these posts for about a week because I’m getting unreasonably optimistic about our chances against Bama.

We really need to fake the handoff and try to hit the FB in the flats at the goal line without blocking the DE. That play usually works pretty good too.

The situation has only happened five times so far this year, zero against the best of the three defenses. I mean, it’s better than not succeeding all five times, but I don’t think it tells us much.

Pass/run option for the QB has worked to perfection in the red zone and resulted in tds each time. Each time there has been a receiver open to dump it off to as well. I especially like the RB going thru the line and running ahead of the QB running parallel to the line where he can catch the pass or throw the last block for the QB to score.

    It’ll be used against Bama.

BTW, Senator, thanks for giving us homework to chew over until Sunday. How long did it take to find the busiest post with think stats that you could find? 🙂

We are going to beat Alabama. When I read comments about how much better Alabama supposedly is than us and about how they “know how to win” or have “been there and done that” etc. I just shake my head. PTSD indeed. Some folks seem to project Alabama’s past success onto its current team. They are three games in just like us. They didn’t get to start their season in early August or anything. We are supposed to afraid of them because, why? Because they got beat by Ohio State last year with Dick Head using his third string qb? Please. And somehow the Bammer logic has seeped into other people’s thinking. “paaaaaaaawl. ole Miss had a fluke play and we turned the ball over a lot Paaaaaaaaawl. So that means that loss does t count Paaaaaaaaawl. Bammer still wins Paaaaaaaaaawl.” Instead what I see is a team that turns the ball over five times when they play a team that’s anywhere in the neighborhood of their own ability must not be as awsome as they have everyone believing. “But Paaaaaaaawl. They won’t make those mistakes again Paaaaaaaawl. Now they’re mad Paaaaaawl.” Fuck em. They don’t have to turn it over five times. With the team we’ve got, yes we are better than Ole Miss, we need only to win in turnover margin. We can do that. As far as them being mad, do you think our O line gives a shit? Do you think Chubb and Sony give a shit? Pruitt? I can guarantee you he doesn’t give a shit.. 100% power success rate? That’s tough to do in practice. We are going to beat Alabama. Go on and warm up to it.

“I especially like the RB going thru the line and running ahead of the QB running parallel to the line…”

One of my favorites. I like having that option to run or dump it…And I like it when we run the TE in the back of the end zone with the RB in the front of the end zone. Two options to throw to. The DB’s have to decide which to cover. Inevitably, two DBs end up covering the same receiver and one is left open.

The interview isn’t posted yet. Speaking of Bulldog Roundtable, the Twitter feed shows that Tramel Terry has decided to transfer for playing time opportunities. I hadn’t heard that.

        Yup, kind of sad

What’s not clear is when he’s leaving the team. Sources have said he’s on campus until January. I don’t think anyone knows if he is also on the team until January, or, if he’s off the team effective immediately.

    Here’s a question for y’all.
You don’t think we’ve seen the whole Bulldawg package yet do you?
There are some rabbits that haven’t come out of the hat yet.
I expect a completly new and major wrinkle against the Tide. A good one.
We may see at least a shadow of it in the Southern game..just to give Nick something else to prepare for.
How do I know this? I don’t. LOL..what do you think?

    • I think I strongly opined that we were vanilla vs Vandy cause we either had no choice or had no better plays and was proven wrong as Hell. So I gotta feeling more bunnies do indeed lurk in the ol’ top hat. Down field deep ball perhaps?

I will be veeeery disappointed if we don’t onside kick, fake punt and field goals against Alabama given Saban ‘s achilles heel for any play involving a kick. I wanna see SECCG mark Richt special teams for sixty minutes. Assuming we beat southern we have nothing to lose in the Alabama game, i wanna see us play like it and gamble a little, hell gamble a lot. We just might get into the heads of a desperate team.

I don’t know how much Shcottenheimer has sitting around that he hasn’t used but I do think he will come up with some things based on what he sees from Alabama on film. One thing I’ve been thinking about since last week is that end around play with McKenzie. I think we’ve run it twice. It’s a good play just not one you can use real often. But we’ve run it twice and you know that Schottenheimer knows Saban will take note of this. A big part of strategy is anticipating what adjustments your opponent will make based on what you’ve done and then planning within that context. Basically, adjusting to his probable adjustments. I wonder if we might not fake that end around with McKenzie and send the ball somewhere else. It could have big play potential. Maybe fake that end around and pass to Sony out of the backfield or wherever he might be lined up. One thing is clear, the cries about being vanilla early proved to be what they looked like to some of us. Can’t wait to see how Schottenheimer game plans this one.

Am I the only one who hopes that Vandy’s defense has a good showing against Ole Miss? I’m still trying to convince myself that their defense is really that good and that’s why Lambert and co. looked bad against them. If Vandy struggles (granted it’s an away game) then I’m going to be concerned about how we’re going to move the ball against Bama. Could it just be that ULM and USCe have especially horrid defenses and that’s why our Offense looked like world beaters? If we ended up struggling against a mediocre Vandy defense then I’m going to need some extra alcohol to get through the Bama game. Someone please talk me down.

Wade, I hope so..in fact, I hope Vandy beats them…fat chance, but we’d all like to find out that Vandy is really a good team, for obvious reasons. Also ULM.

This is way out there, but I was imagining..what if CMR is hiding something really diff…like SOS when he trotted out the backup QB to run some option football? What if Georgia showed that with Bauta against Southern..just enough to make Bama have to spend some time in practice on it…even if you never ran it against them, that would be shot. Bauta running the option with Sony taking the pitch? or the reverse.
If SC can run two schemes, so can UGA.
On the other hand, since SC didn’t run their primary offense very well, maybe they should have just practiced doint it better.

Keep in mind fellas that South Carolina and La Monroe were both ranked 97-108 in rush defense, so we’re not all as naive as the blog writer here.
