“Everything is not lost except Georgia’s pride and manhood.”

This is what you get when you lose badly.

I hope the coaches read some of that shit to the players… and then go back and read it to themselves.  Maybe a little shame will help reclaim some of the focus that was sadly lacking Saturday.

  1. Paul Finebaum: “What happened was, they’re Georgia…I said three months ago Georgia is going to win the game. I really believed at the time. The closer we go to the game, I didn’t believe it at all…You could feel it in Athens.”

What exactly could Paul feel in Athens?

    • He could feel CMR all up in that pregame interview. Sorry for the visual, but these are desperate times

FBomb really truly is the most two-faced forked-tongued character in all the broadcast Land. Quick to congratulate himself, loathe to give any other “common caller” a fair word. Had the Dawgs won he would have created an entirely seperate theme about the doom of the Alabama dynasty.

Why is he even on ESPN? He is the most blatant homer I have ever seen. (even worse than Herbie) I never watch any of the SEC stuff on ESPN b/c he is a part of all of it. What a horrible hire.

In the end the damned broadcast played it right given the sordid results.

We failed to deliver again. Nothing left to say. No amount of talking changes the fact that Georgia was not prepared again for a big game. Coach Richt and staff didn’t have the team prepared and it showed. An embarrassing performance to say the least.

I only very sporadically listen to Finebuam, but I do recall him saying in the summer months that UGA would beat Bama, which naturally drove many of his Bama listeners insane.

Fast forward to last Friday, and he tweeted that his just completed interview with CMR was perhaps his favorite ever. Soon after I heard him on TV say something like, “I think the world of Mark Richt and wish him the very best…but I just don’t see any chance of his team winning tomorrow.” It was evident to me that Finebaum wanted us to win but just didn’t see it happening.

When he said that, I thought it was a bit odd given my recollection of him earlier saying that UGA would beat Bama this year, so maybe he indeed was on to something about whatever was in the air in Athens leading up to the game.

So now, in hindsight, Finebaum says he knew it before the game?

Really surprised and disappointed in the pre-game near-scrum along the sidelines. I hate that kind of stuff and it was rightly mocked here.

Of course, the flip side (no sideline scrum) would be taken as not being fired up or too dispassionate by some people.

It was out-of-character with the way this team had conducted itself up to this point in the season.

However, it was very much in character with the way the last two teams conducted themselves, at Clemson, at the bowl game, and elsewhere.

Who orders up this fake juice? I’ve got a pretty good idea.

    • A couple of things on this, the Bama players had come out of their tunnel and were stopping in front of our band taunting them, that has not been mentioned much but basically our players were responding to the Bama players. Our players were wrong and are not blameless but they are receiving all of the fall out.
Secondly, I understand that Bama taunted the Ole Miss players and Saban went all out rage on their butts later about not doing it again so it is forgiven. Anyone thinking CMR did not get in the players faces about this would be delusional but UGA is receiving lots of flack.
It is nothing more than the stare down before a pair of fighters hear the opening bell.

I disagree completely. The Georgia players were over there before they could even think of taunting the band. Why we continue to do this crap is beyond me. First, it is totally classless. Second, it is utterly stupid to stick an opponent in the eye, especially one that has been a routine Champion while we haven’t won a conference title in a decade.

I like Mark Richt. But there is something very contradictory in always talking about the “Georgia Way” and then allowing your players to do this crap before big games. It is STUPID.

Having spent 30 years in the Army I know something about discipline and lack of discipline. This ain’t on the players…it is on the coaches and it is embarrassing to the University. Someone said it well…it is “fake” juice and needs to stop. Not ready to become “the U” of the SEC in behavior.

        • Were you even there? The Bama players gathered on our end of the field and started jumping and taunting between the student section and the team on the sideline.

If they had gone to their end of the field and done the same thing, there would have been no incident.

          Both sides were to blame.

Sometimes we don’t seem to be able to maintain intensity for 60 minutes, much less a 12 game season. Maybe there’s just something in the water.

When you talk as much as Finebaum, or any of a dozen other entertainers easily listed, sooner or later something will fall out of your mouth that might even be true.

That we are reduced to “Finebaum saw it coming” as part of our thinking just shows how tiny our fan-parts are.

I bet the 50,000 who ran out and them what booed their team saw it coming, too.

I’m going on record. I don’t think we’ll ever reach the mountaintop with Mark Richt as head coach.

First, I anticipate a sincere, heart warming response or two like: ‘We’re sure Greg McGarity has been consulting you Hogbody.’ I expect nothing less from this crowd. 🙂

But indulge me my reasons. First are the games where we don’t show up, or drop dead at first hard punch. That’s only 1-2 games a year, but it’s the difference between 9 wins and 11 wins regular season. Second are the baffling coaching decisions. I don’t think Mark Richt is the only high level coach who does it. Les Miles has a book full. But in combination with factor one it’s tough to overcome. And Miles’s teams always show up.

If we couldn’t do it with Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, and we couldn’t do it with Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley, I can’t see next year’s 5 star qb as the solution.

The next question is always: who would you get? I thankfully get to dodge that one because I get paid to write wills and deeds, not to hire coaches. We could easily spend another decade in 7 win purgatory. I’d sort of like to see what this Pruitt kid can do in a big leadership position. He’s an energetic up and comer, and has about the same depth of experience as Vince Dooley did in 1963.

What am I gonna do? Watch each and every game with as much hope as ever. Try not to stay upset too long after a loss. And abandon a 30 year superstition: from now on, come hell or high water, I’m Dawg gear head to toe on game day,

    Thanks for reading my rant.

I thought Bobo was the heir apparent. I’m pretty sure he’d leave CSU if the UGA job opened up.

But, barring a total collapse this season where we get blown out in all of our remaining games – and that ain’t gonna happen – I don’t think Richt is going anywhere. At this point, that’s a mixed blessing. He seems like a decent man and I like him, but I don’t think UGA’s going to win a natty or even another SEC championship with him at the helm. I sincerely wish it would, but there’s just too much data to the contrary.

        • Tronan

No, but if the Dawgs lose to UT, UF, UK, the Barn, and GT, then, yes, there’s a chance he leaves for other pastures at the end the season. But – again – that level of failure is highly unlikely. Georgia’s not a bad team, it’s just not a great one.

Richt does have Qb Phenom Jacob Eason recruit in the wings, and that just might be enough of a reason to keep Richt around NO MATTER WHAT happens in 2015.

Maybe that’s what Richt thinks, it sure APPEARS that way with the non-competitive effort against Alabama.

I’m the first to notice that. After watching Richt closely for many years, you kind of get a feel for how he thinks

If you look at the lack of intensity in the Alabama game, and the margin of victory, even Richt’s pregame talk about how this is a “3 game mindset” looking ahead to UT & UF, almost like he was conceding the game, it’s more plausible than anything else I’e read or heard.

It’s way better than any theory you have shared.

Richt think since he has the best Qb on board, his job is locked safe, and he’s basically correct. He could go 5-7 and nt be fired because of Eason, Eason is THAT good.

For some reason, Richt feels so secure he lays an egg against Alabama and doesn’t even appear to gameplan for them.

He could have been looking ahead Bama since they the West, to UT & UF.

I don’t think Richt felt ANY pressure to beat Alabama.

He feels all nice & comfy, thanks to Eason.

And the reality is, he should. No way any team passes on Eason. No AD would won’t that on them.

    • Cogent viewpoint, as Mr. Mayor might say, with 10 years of history behind it.

The coaching gaffes most in my craw after this one were: 1) the punt formation from inside the 20yl that led to the block & TD. It was wide open and more prone to be exploited. 2) neglecting any semblance of a TE passing game, even quick stuff to negate Lambert having to “think” too much.

Well, the season begins Saturday in Knoxvegas, and again the silk suits like UGa -3. I’ll stick in there because without the Dawgs we’re left with NFL.

CMR doesn’t get fired until the revenue stream starts drying up. He’s a cash cow for the university and state as long as he continues to average 10 wins a season. As soon as that bottom line starts to plunge, then he’ll be ousted.

  11. Ugh, was listening to local sports talk up here in Greenville on the way home this afternoon. The host said “I would say Georgia had their manhood taken away from them, except that they never had it to start with.”

And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the perception of our program on a national level. No manhood to back up the talent. And I couldn’t even work up the energy to get mad about it.

Other coaches and some pundits have been saying for years that Georgia is not “tough”. We are a finesse ACC team trying to play in the SEC. Richt is a great guy, but he is trying to win championships the way he watched Daddy Bowden do it, by out talenting every team he faces. That’s not going to happen in the SEC, he has to outwork and out prepare SEC teams that have the same or better talent and he’s not willing or able to do that. Winning football games is not Richt’s driving passion. For better or worse, he puts winning football games somewhere around third of fourth on his priority list. That’s fine, for a high school or small college program coach. A guy who is paid millions to coach a football team should have winning as the most important thing.

The patented Richt bed crap games are the ones where the other coach out works and out thinks Richt and has talent close to our level. When we face a more talented team with a coach that really prepares, we get Saturday’s game.

We are what we are and we always will be with Richt. No reason to get upset about it or delude yourself into thinking we will be more. We will win 9 or 10 games a season, go to a so-so bowl game and win most of them. Lots of people will immediately start talking about “next year is the year we win it all” and we never will. Maybe we can win another SEC championship but it’s getting tougher every year. The other programs aren’t standing still and we’ve let a huge window of opportunity go by where we were the most talented team in the East and didn’t capitalize.

agree on CMR still trying to win the same way he did at FSU.

If we had moved to the ACC in ’01, we probably would’ve played in 2 or 3 mnc games and no doubt won at least one.

      • No believe it or not he referenced both of those wins, basically saying yeah we can hammer bad teams (the fact that AU tanked after our game really takes the shine off that win, and this is Spurrier’s worst team ever) but his point was when it comes down to top teams, we consistently come up lacking. And it’s hard to deny that.

I have learned not to let it kill me though. And to protect my sanity, I will not be watching the UF game this year. I can see where that train is going already….and I will not be able to stand seeing the Gators celebrating another win over the dogs. Sigh. I would love to be proven wrong.

You can not shame CMR. He simply does not care. He is good at getting his team to rush across the field in get in another teams face prior to game, but when it time to hit people in runs, blocks, and tackles. They fold like a wet paper bag that had be holding a little JD.
Good to see those guys on SEC NOW talking about the beat down on Ole Miss and the Dawgs. Their top power picks are Florida and Bama. Plus the UF coach is talking about his QB. By the way the Allen lead A&M team is ranked 5th in their poll.
