“You really have to wonder what the hell Butch Jones was thinking.”

That’s from Brian Cook, who takes a look at what a former Michigan coach is doing as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator and isn’t impressed.

The Vols are 108th in Bill Connelly’s “explosiveness” metric. They’ve scored a total of 13 points in the second half of games against Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas.

The optics here are really bad. Tennessee essentially does not have a quarterbacks coach. That task has fallen to Nick Sheridan (yes, that Nick Sheridan), who is a grad assistant after a couple of years as Willie Taggart’s QB coach at WKU and then USF. No offense to Sheridan, but that’s an incredibly thin resume for the only guy a major college has with any claim to be a QB coach. Dobbs has seen his completion percentage drop six points and lost 0.6 YPA this year. You want those numbers to go the other way when your QB hits his upperclass years.

It’s one thing to get shown up by Alabama’s coaching staff.  If Pruitt’s secondary can’t defend the pass better this coming Saturday, it’s time to start screaming.

Dobbs can beat us with his feet. They have also been successful hitting the tight end over the middle.

Both have been weaknesses in our defense this year.

Special teams have been strong for them especially the return game and their punting.

We have our work cut out for us.

I think the scarier part about those Connelly numbers is that he thinks Tennessee beats us this Saturday.

How encouraging. A 3-loss UT team still favored over us by the advanced metrics.

We’re talking about a team that was in position to knock off Oklahoma and a surprisingly good Florida team. They didn’t do it, but they controlled most of those ballgames. The loss to Arkansas is inexplicable, though the Hogs looked a little bit better against A&M the week before than they had in their clownfraud losses.

This 3-loss Tennessee team might be a bigger challenge than some Georgia fans may expect. I think the ‘Dawgs are more talented, but we all know that doesn’t always mean much.

I couldn’t agree more. I expect that an already fractious fanbase will be full apoplectic come Saturday night. I don’t think its going to go well at all for us this weekend.

OOOH! Arrogance! Now that always plays well! TN’s “NUMBERS” i.e., W-L record and defensive stats against the run suggest that UGA should be just fine against TN this week. So if you can’t support your team…and maybe it’s not your team, then stay home, stay off this blog and go climb back in your hole.

S&P thinks Tech loses 6 games but beats us, so I think it’s got some serious bugs at this point in the season.

If we lose Saturday, I’ll start believing in “advanced stats.”

I would not even attempt to pry into the thoughts of Butch. In fact, I don’t think he has thoughts, just a chart to consult based on down, distance, and situation, and even that has been wrong before.

I think he uses a chart for pretty much everything. For example, when his wife comes home in a new pair of jeans and asks if they make her look fat, he scurries around for his chart, frantically studies it, then screams “Yes!”

And when she naturally gets upset with him, he simply tells her that the chart told him to say that, so its not really his fault.

We will roll them this weekend. I’m calling a win by at least 2 TDs. I think last weekend was much more about how damn good Bama was and less about how “bad” we are. Mark it down.

    • Lol, I think you’re engaging in the same kind of blind stupidity that has plagued the Georgia fan base for the past several years. We were every bit as bad on Saturday as we looked aND don’t you let your inner sunshine pumper talk you 0ut of that for one second, lest we end up one win away from where we want to be at the end of the year (which we usually are) and you forget the reason why.

Chances that Tennessee beats us by 2 Td’s are better than us winning by that margin. The Vols have actually played three good teams very close this year. We’ve played one good team and you saw how that worked out.

This is exactly how I feel. I am not going to make fun of them until we actually beat them. I should feel confident but after the last two years of being in control of both games then almost losing both of them but I can’t. I live in Chattanooga so the crap I will have to suffer through from not only the “bricklaying goober” fans but the Bama and other SEC fans in the area will be off the charts.

Pruitt’s “scheme” annihilated a much more potent Auburn attack last year built on the foundation of a mobile QB and running game.

Georgia’s D will be to UTs offense what Alabama’s D was to Georgia’s offense: in the wheelhouse.

UT has come back in the 4th both times Butch’s Vols have played UGA. They usually play dead in the 4th. It would not surprise me one bit if this is a 1 score game. Oddly being in Knoxville with their even more dejected fans will be an advantage.

    • He’s crying in a beer over the fact that Faton is not listed as the #1 on the depth chart this week. By the way, FB seems to be a DGD, and I thought he should have gotten some meaningful snaps in the 4th quarter once it was clear there was going to be no comeback.

He is a DGD and I would have to question him not being moved to #2 this week and given a look. He may not be the guy, not saying he is, but I want him to get a shot before we try to let BR prove he can improve. A different style QB that gives his all, something makes me think the players would back him…at least as a backup if Lambert cannot get back in a groove, or gets hurts later this year. Batau for the shot, I hope he gets sone reps in practice and we see that in Knoxville. We were told he was competitive during August, we have seen Door #1, doing OK, and we have seen Door #2, seen enough over the past 12 months, but I want know if Door #3 can contribute something.

Faton may be the best player on our roster to play the role of Josh Dobbs in full-speed practice this week.

He is likely one of our guys who contribute in ways not directly seen on Saturdays.

        • Totally agree – that why I say he’s a DGD

Lambert has another bad start Ramsey comes in. Why would it change now. Besides who would be the holder. #10 is 3rd for whatever reason is in richt’s mind, either he is that bad or he is that good but wrong type of offense. If it is the latter and richt has been holding him back because he doesn’t want to be proven wrong, and something does happen and #10 does get into the game and lights it up there will be hell to pay for sure.

Oh, the new meme is ‘the D lost the game for us.’ Gimme a fricken break.

Funny how the blame always falls somewhere other than CMR. Truth is, CMR & his cast of clowns: garner, grantham, lakatos & friend, left this team in lousy shape. The guys cleaning up the mess, like CJP, aren’t the problem.

Lord God, no one person person, or group lost the game on their own…the team did. And if you weren’t watching Coker go all Joe Montana on us both running and throwing to wide open receivers, you must have jumped over the ledge very early. The defense carries a strong bit of weight for that loss, along with others. Last year it was the defense against SC, FLA, and GT that was the weak link….not 100%, but a sizable portion. No one is without blame, and no one is totally responsible. What about that can our fans not understand? Is it just the American culture today that has to assign something specific to every situation? An autopsy report on a 125 year old’s death will talk about her damn diet when a child, or the fact that a classroom she was in had lead based paint, or her parents smoked cigarettes. It is the cumulative effect, no one tooth of the saw is totally responsible.

      • Stop banging your retard drum. It’s been ten years since we last won the SEC and we’ve had embarrassing losses like this one every single year. The ONE constant variable is Mark Richt. This bullshit about a collective failure was old five years ago when the current players were still in high school. Stop trying to pass the blame off on everyone except the one man who is responsible for the whole damn show.
