According to Nick Chubb’s mom, the injury he suffered yesterday isn’t as devastating as it first appeared.
… on Sunday Chubb’s mother posted an update on her Facebook.
“Nick has a PCL tear along with two other ligaments. It’s not nearly as bad as it could have been. They will wait for swelling to go down to decide when to have surgery. Possibly two weeks. Nick is in good spirits.”
Good to hear. That’s something, especially with his determination, he should be able to recover from by next season.
Fingers crossed, Nick. You deserve it.
That is great news. Especially considering next year is the year CMR gets over the hump. 🙂

Nice to get some good news and that’s really great news. I hope he has a Lattimore like comeback.

Latimore never came back. Never got to play in NFL. Why would you say that guy?

No way I would play another down for this underachieving program. I would just use UGA facilities to get ready for NFL when eligible.

But Dr. Richt said he wouldn’t require surgery.

As opined on yesterday, Chubb should seriously consider sitting out next year and prepare for the NFL draft instead, similar to what Miles Jack is doing at UCLA after consulting with various advisors in the NFL.
Selfishly I want him to come back, but obviously he should do what’s best for his future career and earning potential, which, as a RB, is fleeting at best

Not really the same scenario as Jack. Jack is draft eligible at the end of this season. He’s just gone ahead and made the decision to go pro rather than waiting until after the season to decide, he’s not making a decision to sit out. He was gonna be out the rest of this year due to the injury regardless.

Definitely good news. Thanks for the update.

There are essentially four separate ligaments that stabilize the knee joint. Its unusual to learn which one was torn. It’s always described as torn ligament. I think the worst knee injury to a Georgia rb happened to a promising rb from California. He dislocated his patella preseason practicing at the stadium. The danger was due to a stretched nerve and he worked for 4 years getting it back. Foot dropsy. Stayed on scholarship finishing his degree and taking a snap in one game. I understand he is a successful business man in NC? One of the HS coaches was telling me about him. Also Cory Phillips works in Atlanta. Insurance company I think.
PCL tears are graded from 1 to 3. 3 being the most severe.

I remember the guy you’re talking about, but I can’t remember his name. He was a big, fast kid, wasn’t he?

But Chubb tore 3 of 4 ligaments in his knee. Almost a complete dislocation.

What does “and two other ligaments” mean anyway? There’s only 4 ligaments in the knee, so she’s saying 3 of 4 are torn? Seems like a bigger deal than described as often PCLs are treated non-surgically. (at least in many cases)
Regardless, just a devastating blow for what all accounts say is a good kid.

Yeah, that’s the severity of the PCL tear itself, not the number of ligaments torn. So either other ligaments (e.g. MCL, LCL, or ACL) are torn, or she accidentally described “other ligaments” being torn when she meant the severity of the PCL tear. It’s academic at this point anyway as I’m sure there will be a press report with the MRI findings soon.

You are describing the severity of the tear. There are 4 ligaments in the knee. Tearing 3 of 4 is a big deal. Praying for a full recovery.

Chubb gave so much. Sad and painful.
Moms usually know.
But I will wait until after surgery. Reported he passed out after injury. Would think more severe than reported.
No doubt CMR’s medical knowlege is no better than his football coaching.

He definitely passed out. You can see it if you have the tv broadcast recorded. Was when they were walking him to the cart – right as he got to the cart, his eyes kind rolled back and his head went limp.

Agree with that….and for those lambasting Richt for his comments, I don’t blame him for wanting to think the best.

When you look over the roster you can see some of the issues. Don’t think we have the depth and players.
But CMR is well stocked with snappers. Not sure how that plays with his annual special teams failures.
Better work on those defense and offensive lines because lately they disappeared.

Yea, Ms Chubb’s statement tells us very little. I’ll wait for the Orthopedic Surgeon’s statement.

Nick, hope you have a speedy recovery and your best running days ahead of you.
Richt-haters, you should be ashamed. Not that you dislike the man so much, but that you dislike him so much that you can’t shut your fucking pie-holes for one fucking thread that have nothing on it but well-wishes to an injured young man. Grow the fuck up.

Guys as a ortho PA/ATC, a PCL tear with other ligament involvement is big deal. This is a more severe injury than Gurley’s was. Praying for Chubb!!

Thanx for the comment and expertise. Lattimore tore all four and dislocated the patella and managed to go in the 4th round. Who knows. I think that was his 2nd knee injury. Marshal tore two. Just trying to be hopeful I guess.
LikeLike
Oh yeah. Definitely hopeful esp with someone of Chubb’s work ethic! I just didn’t want folks to think no ACL tear means the injury isn’t significant.
LikeLike
Based on the mechanics of the knee, PCL and LCL Are almost a given to be torn. Only question is the extent of damage to the ACL, MCL, and meniscus. His mom’s comment that it could have been worse may refer to concerns about neuro vascular damage. Remember that was the concern for Robert Edwards when he nearly lost his leg to a knee injury playing football on the beach at the Pro Bowl in hawaii. He was out 2 years before attempting a comeback in the nfl.
