“Sickening”

The difference between Georgia’s defensive players and us?

We didn’t have to wait to see the film a couple of days later to be nauseated about the poor tackling.

“Ganus said that a big reason for the missed tackles was a loss of focus…”

Second verse, same as the 100000000.

No. We don’t practice tackling. We also act like we are uninterested in playing football half the time.

If we practiced tackling as much as we practiced talking, our head coach wouldn’t have to spend so much time on the post game show describing how we were physically whipped.

What about lack of focus from the coaching staff? Can anyone on that sideline count to 12? What about saving a time out by having your team lined up correctly and the right guys on the field. Clock management has been discussed on the blog before, unless my memory fails me.

5 years of the same loss of focus excuses…same ol’ same ol’….I mean, if we can’t get up for the Florida game (last year) and this year’s Tennessee game (consensus pick to win East was the winner of this game), then WTF are we even playing football for?

I get that they are saying all the things that they think they should be saying, but right now I would rather get radio silence and a whole lot of bad attitudes and gang tackles on saturday.

Even in the first quarter you could see the issues. Never saw as many players off their feet, or out of position, or on their butts.
In addition to the film review, I would have them wear the same uniforms as in the UT game. Reminder of how UT knocked them on their butts for 90 plays.

I have the answer. We don’t practice tackling at all.

I’m not saying we had a good game tackling…but we’re not the only team to have problems tackling Jalen Hurd. That guy is going to be tough to bring down again next year.

    • true… but we are the only team having trouble holding onto 21 point leads vs. UT this season.

hell, most teams spot UT a couple

True, but I put a lot of that on the Offense since they went into the tank until after the D gave up 28 unanswered. Yeah, the average yards per play ended up well…but they could sustain a drive and put points on the board for a couple quarters. If it wasn’t for Sony’s fumble, Floyd’s TD, and Reggie’s return for a TD, I think we’re talking more about the disappearing O than the arm tackles.

Does anyone know if there have been any full speed scrimmages with tackling to the ground yet or if any are planned for this week? Make ’em tackle each other during the week if they don’t tackle in games. That will motivate them and also give them practice actually doing it. Injuries? That’s the risk you take.

The NCAA has cut practice time. I understand the problem with injuries, but I wonder if the lack of practice could contribute to injuries? I am more concerned with the way the team seems to fall apart when one part of the game plan isn’t working. Any defense can have a bad day, as can any offense. That’s when one squad should step up and make up the difference. An offense can gain momentum from the D and vice versa. At UGA when one part fails the wheels come off everywhere.

Did they only cut practice time for Georgia? I didn’t notice UT having those same tackling problems.

Same excuses, different year, ho hum.

Sounds like just another movie day at the country club.

Did it occur to someone they can cut it short, get them on the field, and stop wasting valuable time making up excuses with the media?

Chronic tackling issues are a leading indicator, as they say.

I am beginning to think Richt has spent so much time justifying himself and handling the politics of SEC HC State U that he’s neglecting some coaching basics. Wouldn’t be the first executive who lost his own focus and suffered the organizational ripple effects of that.

Mark Richt Georgia Football resembles GM and Ford circa 1990s in a way. At some point, it really does just come down to building a reliable car.

Hey guys,I need someone to talk me off the ledge here. I don’t want a Aaron Hernandez but i do kinda, sorta want me a Brandon Spikes or two or three. A dirty Mofo to blend in with pretty boys we got, i think we are missing a asskicker or two or three or nine. Do we have anyone that scares people spitless in our locker room?

Ganus played 88 of 90 defensive snaps. The lack of depth is still a big problem. Mike Singletary would be fatigued and missing tackles if he played that many snaps.

Is wonder how focused Tennessee would have been, on both sides of the ball if they had lost Josh Dobbs on the first play from scrimmage?

You know that is a perfectly valid point. The fact that Georgia’s best player and team leader got knocked out of the game with what appeared to be at least a season-ending if not career-ending injury had to have an effect on the players mentally.

Yeah, it’s valid. But the Vols had lost three games by the time we played them, and Nick Chubb didn’t play for any of those three teams. We also lost our best player last year and we were focused enough to stomp Mizz and Ark without him.

Probably not focused enough to take a 24-3 lead.

I’m up to my ears in UT fans and they all complained about their boys inability to tackle.

On a slightly different note. Am I the only one that just realized that all four second stringers in the secondary are TRUE freshmen? That mass exodus of DBs is showing up in a big way. Damn that’s scary!

What I want to know was how many laps each player ran for each missed tackle? What were the tangible negative consequences to the players for blowing the tackles or assignments? Until there are real consequences, I don’t expect the behavior to change.

I would disagree with a player saying “that’s not us.” If you’re slowed by an injury then OK, that’s not you. Otherwise, it’s you and just own it. I don’t know if anyone corrects them when they say “that’s not us” but someone should.

As I watched the poor play I kept thinking, why is Pruitt leaving this guy in there? At least take him out long enough to talk to him. If you’re a high school DB and you’re not considering Georgia, I think you’re letting a golden opportunity go by.
