Thursday morning buffet

Random off-week tidbits for your dining pleasure:

  • Nick Chubb’s surgery is scheduled for next week.  “Optimistic” seems to be the word of the day about that.
  • Anybody wanna bet that Carl Lawson is back in time for Auburn’s game with Georgia?
  • Both teams will be wearing the home jerseys in Jacksonville again.  Me likee.
  • Texas has reached a 15-year agreement with Nike expected to pay upwards of $200 million.  The Patterson rebranding pays off!
  • Any blog sporting the mantra “life’s too short to eat bad BBQ.” is going to get a nod from me.  Here’s a nice post that ought to be of interest to any Georgia fan planning on going to the Cocktail Party via St. Simons.
  • And here’s another young Georgia blogger getting started.
  • Brady Hoke second-guessing Jim Harbaugh is about as rich as it gets.
  • Florida has 216 people show up to try out for the walk-on kicker cast call.  “As long as they can flip it up there through the uprights, I’m good with it,” McElwain said Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference.
  • Here’s an update on some of Georgia’s walking wounded.
  • ESPN announces cuts of about 4% of its workforce; CEO says its “part of a broad strategy to ensure we’re in position to make the most of opportunities to build the future of ESPN.”   Uh huh.
  • Malcolm Mitchell loves him some Batman.  No, really.

Its always funny how the media has time to piss and moan about UGA when players do stupid things, but when we have players like Conley and Mitchell, who put in so much time doing the right things. They never seem to get enough credit for being so much more than just a football player at the school.

After weeding out the other 215 candidates, Florida settled on a walk-on kicker

ESPN pays Stephen A. Smith over $3 million a year and he didn’t get cut but several making $50,000 a year probably did

Wow. Admittedly I rarely watch ESPN other than for live CFB, or golf majors, but I don’t know if I would recognize the guy if he sat next to me on an airplane. I have heard the name, but just can’t place him. They pay $3MM for that? What do they pay for Nessler/Blackledge? Bet it is a much better value buy, they are the best combo in CFB.

      • Smith just sits there and runs his mouth. There are at least 5 guys on this blog whose opinions I value more than Stephen A Smith’s. I’m a hard core capitalist, but 3 mil for that doofus makes me question the free market.

Tip for anyone traveling to St Simons (from someone who grew up there): for the best seafood in the area, stop by B&J’s in Darien. It’s right off 95 about 15 minutes north of Brunswick. Best fried shrimp I’ve ever had, it literally comes straight off the boat across the street.

    • Hey there, this is the author of the post the Senator linked. We’ve eaten there plenty of times, and you’re right. It’s delicious. We’ll do a post like this one next week featuring the drive from Atlanta to Amelia Island. We’ll make sure to include B&J’s. Hope you enjoyed the article.

Surprised no mention of the BBQ joints in the area, especially the one featured on Triple D which I have heard great hings about (Southern Soul? Not sure of the name but it looked like a place that would be top of my list.)

Thanks. Next time I am in Savannah I plan to take a ride down I95 and experience it. I have begun looking at the Food Network site when traveling to different areas to see the featured joints on Guy’s show and give them a try if I like the specialty dishes. My batting average with these has been much better than with highly rated expensive restaurants. At least if they aren’t as good as expected, I still save about 80% of what I would have spent from my wife’s choices. 🙂

A more unlikely couple you will never meet. Truthfully I know how to spell Guy and figured I would butcher Fieri. And I like his show too much to drag “the man” down. I am a Triple D kind of “guy” now and have to tip my hat to how wellhe owns that show.

        • We got called out quickly that we left out Southern Soul. We added it in there, one of the best BBQ places around.

Southern Soul is really, really good…And even if you don’t like collards..get the collards..they are special.
And BJ’s is fantastic..ignore the looks of the place and go in and get a shrimp platter..best in the land!!

In my experience, fried food, breakfast, and/or BBQ is always best when served in places that don’t spend money on appearances. That would never deter me, but sometimes I have to hog-tie Mrs. Mac to get her to join me inside for the meal.

Hope Nick has a full and speedy recovery.

Also I didn’t like the outcome but i think both teams should wear their home jerseys to the cocktail party every year.

I can’t wait to see what socks Lambert has on. Could be the difference in the football game. I’ve heard from the Dawgs insiders that Lambert has watched Wooden’s youtube on how to properly put on socks. I’m feeling much better about our chances now…

A little surprised by the selection of the DairyLane over Holcomb’s, but you can’t go wrong with that one. Stopping in Sandersville also breaks up the trip much better.

Should be an excellent game to watch. Appy is favored but GSU leads the country in rushing offense. After the opener against WVU where their QB was suspended, Eagles have played well. Similar score to UGA’s against ULM in the abbreviated game in Athens.

Cal/UCLA after that game is also good Thursday night viewing. The UCLA, Oregon, USC, Az State fall off versus expectations rivals the Auburn, TN, UGA, misses in the SEC. Yeah, pre-season polls are very reliable. 🙂

It’s good to see Dairylane get a shout out. If you want some tasty and decidedly unhealthy food, they have lots of options on the menu.

If UGA and UF don’t wear black and orange, respectively, then they are missing out on an anxious Halloween opportunity.
