My Week 8 Mumme Poll ballot

Honestly, with the FSU and Utah losses, this was an easy one. I spent less than five minutes putting it together.

  • Alabama
  • Baylor
  • LSU
  • Ohio State
  • Stanford
  • TCU

I’m sure there are those who think Michigan State should be in the mix.  My problem with including the Spartans is that once I go down that road, it’s hard to justify keeping teams like Iowa, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Notre Dame out of the mix.  I’m not inclined to do so at the moment.  I’ll see how I feel about that in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE:  Also, this.

  1. Alabama sure looked vulnerable. Who do you think will win the LSU/Bama matchup, and who do you want to win? Does it matter at all for UGA and future rankings?

    • ‘Bama is 4-1 against top 30 teams, according to Sagarin. If the Tide doesn’t self-destruct on turnovers like it did against Ole Miss, I don’t see LSU winning.

I think it mostly comes down to how well LSU’s defense plays. If Herd could get 5 ypc, Fournette will top 100 yds, and Harris has played a lot better at QB than I thought he was capable of. But the Tiger defense hasn’t looked great. They haven’t looked bad, but not great. So you get strength on strength and “just OK” vs “just OK” when they meet.

I think the difference is how well Alabama is throwing the ball right now. They both have smash-mouth running I’ll give ‘Bama the edge on shutting down much as is possible, that is.
I see the SEC coming down to a matchup in ATL of Alabama against the Lizzards, The Dawgs or The Hillbillys. Of course that doesnt take a lot of imagination…and I’m not certain the East representiive is going to be in a better situation than the East’s runner-up, bowl wise.

    No Clemson?

  3. I have your same teams plus Clemson, Notre Dame, Iowa, and Oklahoma State. I really don’t like that I have Baylor in my poll given that their starting QB is out now, but the back-loaded part of their schedule will shake everything out for me.
