My Week 9 Mumme Poll ballot

Well, hayul.  I thought things were supposed to get easier as the season wears on.  Instead, it seems I’ve expanded my ballot this week.

  • Alabama
  • Baylor
  • Clemson
  • LSU
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma
  • Stanford
  • TCU

Is there a more inexplicable loss this year than Oklahoma losing to Texas?

Even with the changes, it still took me only about 10 minutes to put that together.

  1. Senator, your ballot looks similar to mine. I don’t have Stanford or Oklahoma. Stanford’s loss to Northwestern isn’t the type of loss a playoff team should have (similar to tOSU’s loss to VT last year). Oklahoma’s loss to Texas at the Red River Shootout should be unforgivable (I have a feeling Baylor and/or TCU will take care of the Sooners). I voted for Michigan State because they’re undefeated (and I like D’Antonio), but we’ll find out about them on 11/21 at the ‘Shoe.

I was a little more inclusive but I feel the month of November will take care of the pretenders and eliminate mine back to six or eight, maybe five. Like eethomas, I gave thought to omitting Stanford because of the NW loss, and because the Pirate came withing a reasonable FG at the buzzer on Saturday night but if I apply that bad loss/near miss standard, I wouldn’t have Bama in the top either. I have always felt one bad day shouldn’t be elimination in CFB and try to look at the overall. Bama stunk it up against UM, and had to drive at the end to put TN away, both at home. Ohio has had some near misses against a weak schedule, Michigan State needed a miracle, OU lost in Knoxville, and it goes on and on every season. It will get pared down but there is no playoff going to ever prove who is best, just who is the champion of that playoff.

Shoot…forget to vote. Sorry. Wish there was a reminder?

I have the same list except for Oklahoma. I considered them but couldn’t over look the Texas loss. I am not sure why I am not applying the same logic to Stanford. I guess because they have more impressive wins against better competition in my eyes than Oklahoma.

  5. Sat watching the end of the WSU-Stanford game. Thinking please miss or the Pac 12 is out of the playoffs. Yeah, I am a Pac 12 fan, hoping for the revival of UW. My poll is the same as the Senators.
