Our Long national nightmare is just beginning.

The selection committee spewed forth its first set of rankings last night.  The nation yawned as the committee’s master gave itself a major woody fawning over a bunch of ultimately irrelevant information.  So, I guess you’d have to say from the perspective of those running college football, it was a huge success.

Man, it’s gonna be a long two months.

Meanwhile on the SEC network, we are given a slight chance to beat Kentucky, a very good chance to beat Ga. South, even with Auburn and a slight underdog….against….ah Tech.

    • Who cares what the SEC Network thinks? It’s not like they’ve done a good job predicting Georgia’s season so far.

Golly, I guess you are right.

  2. I hate the selection committee. Their meetings and rankings are a bunch of crap at this point. Just have ESPN do the selection to maximize their ratings and be done with it. Every year we’ll have Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and USC regardless of their records.

I have become more cynical about the sport we love every day.

Knowing Georgia is not going to be screwed by the committee this year has me pulling for complete political chaos.

I enjoy having The Committee’s rankings, they have a better perspective than the old polls, but agree this is too early to be meaningful. The worst part of their early announcements is the loonies beating their heads on the wall over the exact rankings as this point. With the number of head to head meetings coming soon, it will get dialed in and come down to the inevitable 1-2 teams who will cry all winter. A couple of head scratchers to me, cough–Notre Dame—cough, but nothing horrible that cannot be resolved with time and more tweaks.

A bunch of pompous asses trying to act as if it is important how, they rank LSU against Alabama when they play each other in 4 days and th he two teams will moot the analysis. What a “who cares.”

The committee is just trolling the fans of the Big 12 and Pac 12. Controversy is all they are looking for, to generate discussion. Seems to be working too.

Only positive takeaway I see is that if the Big 12 gets screwed again, maybe Art Briles would seriously consider Athens if things turn out poorly over this last month (which depending on by how much and to whom, even 3-1 would be “poorly”).

Why Briles would be an upgrade, I would MUCH rather them steal Patterson away form TCU. He has mostly built his reputation as a defensive coach. He however is not a stubborn set in stone kind of coach. He saw that he needed to change the offensive style they played to compete in the Big 12 and he totally changed the offensive philosophy to take advantage of Boykin’s skill set (kind of like Schotty changed thinks up to take advantage of Bauta’s unique skill set…. yeah right). Because of his defensive prowess, I think he would be a great fit in the SEC. Given the fact that he has to recruit against Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma (not to mention Baylor, OK State, Texas Tech) and still wins shows what kind of coach he is. GIve him UGA’s recruiting classes and you can bet UGA would be SERIOUSLY be in the national championship talk year in and year out, not the self delusional talk we hear at the beginning of each season.

I agree, though I think Paterson would be less likely to leave (just because he’s been at TCU since Franchione left) whereas Briles left Houston for Baylor. (He did turn down Texas, but Patterson was still AD there.) Patterson’s probably the best defensive mind in CFB right now though.

  11. A couple of thoughts…

Right now, I would rank my team about 6th or 7th. Given the make up of this team, I would also rather be heading into this game trying to fight my way in rather than talking about playoff rankings all week.
I was born in the late 1960s and in real life, I’m a rather profane individual. But for the life of me, I can’t understand today’s cultural fascination with the word butthurt. Is that supposed to be the zinger of all zings? Isn’t using that word some sort of homophopic slur? Yes, I do think it would be particularly painful to be zinged down there, but I don’t understand why it’s such a “gotcha.”

    Have a good day,

      My Dear Fellow BD,

“Culture” may be defined as: the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.

You are not witnessing that here at GTP much anymore, and certainly not with the zinger slingers you speak of.

      Carry on.

Committee did you no favor by making you a #4 this week, but in truth, if you gad to pick just four teams at this point in time, Tide should be one of those. Agree you would be better a couple of spots further down. Don’t really see why everyone is upset though, either you or LSU fall out and do not come back after Saturday. Biggest issue you face is someone beating Ole Miss team that seems to be getting better. If you get to Atlanta and stomp an 11-1 Florida team there is no way you are not included. You need FU to keep winning, and the Rebels to lose just one more time. Saturday will be trench warfare at its SEC best.
