It’s been that kind of year.

I bet if somebody had told you before the season that after week ten, Brice Ramsey would rank third in the conference in average yardage, you’d have gotten real excited.

Oh, that.

    Didn’t see that one coming.

  2. The guy can kick the hell out of it. He gets the kick off quickly. He could be looking at a future job in the League if he keeps it up. NFL punter who makes a roster = long-term job security.

I know the guy really wants to play QB. I would too but I would rather be a punter in the NFL for 10 years making a cool $400K or more a year versus a guy that got to be a QB a year or two in college football with no future as an NFL QB.

Of course Ramsey may very well be NFL backup material but based on his limited sample has it does not appear that way. The guy can sure kick the shit out of the ball though.

      • There are guys who have spent 20 years in the League as a punter. You can make some good money playing 5 plays a game with limited risk of getting hurt.

Yeah I know. I would take that gig in a NY minute. You get all the perks of being a professional athlete with little risk to injury and make a salary that is equal to what CEOs of mid to large companies make.

My brother played soccer in HS and he had a pretty strong leg. He is 20+ yrs younger than I am. I tried my hardest to get him to learn to kick FGs and punt but NOOOOOO…..it was not cool enough for him. He did play one year of HS football as a WR but broke his arm during that yr.

I wonder if Ramsey continues to punt really well if he will start to consider that a possible avenue for his future.

Senator – don’t you get tired of saying “it’s been that kind of year” every year? Lather, rinse, repeat.

You should see how far he can kick a field goal. Hit several in the high 50’s in high school.

What’s a surprise is that a Georgia punter is this high up in the list, no matter who it is, been a while since we’ve seen that.

This is great. But I think teams are respecting the possibility of a fake since we have QB back there. I can only remember once where it was clearly a punt block attempt. The rest have been returns. I hope that continues and he keeps up the average. An NFL career as a punter seems to be a pretty sweet gig if you can get one.

Teams definitely need to respect the fake. I hope Richt had one of those new support staff people researching every possible fake punt so they can determine the best ones for our skill set.

Also, there probably isn’t practice time for it this season, but next year they need to use the wing T offense with Ramsey at QB on short yardage 4th downs. The opposition won’t know whether it is a punt or a conversion attempt until we break the huddle.

Really, Alpha? Did you see his one, lone, pass attempt from the fake punt play call? Have you seen him attempt a pass, ever?

  8. One of the few highlights of the last few weeks is Ramsey’s impressive punting. With the added bonus that the opponent must always respect the fake (for a while at least, until they realize he can’t throw)

Glad to see Brice contribute in this way. It will earn him the respect of his teammates going into next season.

If he can execute a punt which can be downed inside the opponent’s 15 yard line, we can finally add a key winning element which has been missing from our game.

How long before our coaching ruins his kicking ability to go along with what they’ve done to his QB ability?

Even the positives draw cheap shots from guys like you. There is no end to relentless attacks from the haters. Usually just try to ignore the non-thoughts from you guys but your depth of “fandom” still surprises me at times and it slips in. Good for Brice, good for the coaches.

No shit, Mac. It is truly amazing how few people who post here actually know how important Ramsey’s contribution as a kicker could be, now and in the future. I guess this is the only logical explanation for the continuing, unending negativity.

If you don’t know what you are talking about, blame the coaching staff. Sounds right to me.

Oh, DIF, I forgot. All the ills of the world should be laid at the feet of Mark Richt. He is responsible for all the plagues, even the frogs. How else does one explain the color laid on his truck?

I’ll bet Bauta could do better. Why won’t the coaches give him a chance?

I have a hunch we’ll see Bauta in the Wild Dawg on Saturday….. look for the coaches to continue to change things up all over the field…..

Whoops, I let the goofy part of my brain take over my typing again. What the rational part wants to type is that Bauta will continue being the holder and doing helpful things like “giving a good look” as a safety on scout teams. (WHAT ON EARTH does that really mean? Does any sane person think that Bauta can realistically simulate any safety in the SEC?)

With Bauta holding for Ramsey on a FG attempt, you’ve got two QB’s in the backfield. Just saying.

Bauta will be an all SEC safety next year.

    I’m sensing a recruiting opportunity

Georgia-the only program that uses QB’s to kick and catch punts.
